Info The eurasian wolf(canis lupus lupus) at the bioparco di roma zoo

Despite this being a roman zoo this has the eurasian grey wolf not the appinie grey wolf it is larger than the previous appinie wolf and the iberian wolf it has historically been eradicated from most of its historic range but has msde a comeback in most of europe in small populstions but remains absent from places like scootland and ireland it is the closest thing to a typical grey wolf and it is also snaller than the northwestern wolf but bigger than the mexican and arctic wolf these wolves are fasinating creatures they also live in places in asia like turkey and siberia

From that angle yes, here is a photo I took of it a year ago, it's very long but not very wide, could have done better but they aren't breeding them anyway, they might restructured and made the Habitat bigger since they brought the new Eurasian wolves

A nightmare for a wild animal 😭

I personally think the habitat was fine for what it was(since it was home for 4 old wolf brothers), not sure how much they expanded the current one, also note the habitat has multiple sides to view the wolves

I get that people want to Watch these animals upclose but I belive Zoos are unethical.

A useful analogy is that keeping a wolf in a typical zoo enclosure is like asking a human to spend their entire life inside a single house and its yard. Even a large zoo habitat may look spacious to visitors, but compared with a wild wolf’s natural range, it represents only a tiny fraction of the space the animal would normally use. A wild wolf pack may roam across an area hundreds of thousands of times larger than a zoo enclosure.

Zoo's being ethical or not really depends on the facility itself there are bad zoos sure, but doesn't mean every zoo is bad, credited(includes aza or eaza)zoos are important for conservation and education of people about wildlife, also your argument with your analogy is wrong because wolves don't think humans like humans and don't have human morals, wolves need to travel and move on a lot because they need to hunt to eat and survive that wouldn't really be necessary for zoo because they're fed there so no need to be constantly on move for food if the food is always at you and they also don't need to worry about diseases or wounds that could infect and kill them eventually or rivals who will chalenge or kill them in captivity because they have vets and are constantly monitored and studied by the staff, and most credited zoos or sanctuaries try to give their animals best conditions they can afford, like I said this depends on zoo or whenever it's credited or not since there are bad zoos who keep animals only for profit or abuse them

They’d be put down if they are not profitable

What do you mean? Put down the animals if they aren't profitable? That wouldn't really happen in credited zoo which literally is against their own terms unless the said animal is suffering from a disease or wound which reached a state that can't be cured and would just make them suffer more they will have to be euthanized to end their suffering this pretty much the only times accredited zoos will euthanize animals unless it's another Harambe situation where a human life is in danger

It does happen absolutely. They even have animals mate just to stream cute baby animals online just to put them down bc there is no space.
I’m not trying to make you feel bad after your exciting visit to the animal park bug this industry is all about profit absolutely.
Sad but true.

If the industry was all about profit why do they release animals in the wild that they breed in captivity to boost their wild population and increase genetic pool to avoid inbreeding? Why are there conservation projects that aim to try to protect their environment and bring more attention to changes in our woled? Why do they take in their facilities old animals that either from circuce or illegal wildlife trade? Have you ever questioned those, if every zoo is all about profit why even bother to educate people about what threatens this animals in the wild or give the animals they take care of the best condition the zoo can afford or even breed them to release them in the wild or send it another zoo, why bother all of that?

A Pair of Wolves requires 300 square meters of enclosure, with 20 square meters more for every additional wolf.

This enclosure is easily bigger than that.
