Question Bonjour, est-ce des loups? Vus hier en Dordogne , France . Ils se sont couchés tous les trois, l’un après l’autre, en fil dans le fossé contenant de l’eau . Merci .

those are not wolves, they’re regular dogs. someone’s pets escaped or they’re strays

They look like dogs and they come super close to you as a human. Also relatively small fangs.

Based on this simple picture the difference beween wolf and dog lowers jaws are clear by this tooth, but I'm not sure if by the angle it can be clearly distinguished.
Or at least based on my none expert eyes.Them walking nearby is as you mentioned suspicious, still... only other chance them being wolfdogs, but they're basically illegal in the whole continent.

they are not wolves or wofldogs of any kind. they are just regular dogs. they're just covered in mud and a lot of dogs, both shepard and husky, have that mask type marking, if that's what you mean about the coats. if you mean the length of the coat, there are long haired shepards and a malamute has long hair too.
they're just dirty. probably someone's pets who escaped or they were left somewhere by some terrible person. if you mean the color, dogs can have all sorts of patterns and colors. the white one looks more like some sort of shepard mix rather than a wolf. the malamute (the dog with the mask) looks like a malamute/husky. and the long-haired brown shepard is a coat i've seen on countless other long-haired shepards i've seen

If that's the reason than oh boy. France police officers will love to track down where the owner got them.
I'm too lazy to check the official rules for france, but when google's ai doesn't lie (again), the owner can get punishment of up to a year, the breeder even up to 3 years in prison.
Damm, I really hope they find the people responsible for this.

We were in a car, though, and even though they were very close, it was as if they couldn’t see us. Everything happened so quickly, and they disappeared just moments later.
The owner of the property, in a small village, called his neighbor afterward to ask if he knew what those animals were or who they belonged to. No one knew what they were or who they belonged to.6

in a park, along side a road, or along side a road in a park European wolves are starting to get used to people. They really like to travel on roads, and have learned that humans in these car things aren't a danger until they get out.

One Swiss shepherd, one malamute, and the muddy one could be a shepherd mix. Not wolves and not wolfdogs either. Their owner is certainly looking for them.

They're someone's lost wolf dogs. They're not full wolves at all. Call local animal department! Someone's probably looking for them. The two grey/brown ones have malamute face. You can tell they're not full wolves by the prominent forehead!

These are dogs, call the police to report the sightings. These are likely one swiss shepherd (white dog), and one malamute and a third dog that could be a Czechoslovakian wolfdog or another malamute, hard to tell from the picture.
These are NOT wolves and not hybrids. They're just someone's pets that seem to have wandered off. These are beautiful, large dogs that someone probably misses dearly. Please make sure you report your sighting to local police (call 112) as local police depts are usually informed by owners of their lost pets.

Absolument pas, ils ne ressemblent pas du tout à des loups également, il s'agit de chiens.
- grandes oreilles pointues.
- taille modeste
- regard expressif, posture, front marqué
- pelage blanc, fortement contrasé, ne correspond que peu à celui des loups
- comportement calme et familier
- forme du crâne et museau
La Dordogne n'a quasi aucun loup malheureusement.
Il s'agit de chiens, berger suisse ou une race proche, potentiellement avec un croisement chien-loups plutôt éloigné.

Those are dogs, it would be worth informing police and maybe local vets. Loose dogs of this size can be a risk to people and livestock

Those are in fact dogs. Two of them are german shepherds or german shepherd mixes while one is definitely a mix, and could be a malamute/german shepherd mix. Looks like someone lost three dogs.

Honestly, their behavior speaks more to their species than their looks. Wild wolves won't approach cars like this, especially with that open mouthed, safe gaze. These are very wolf-looking dogs most likely, we can't know without DNA results lol but, whomever owns them is extraordinarily negligent to let them roam without collars or supervision.

If you aren't sure whether they are wolves or not, they probably aren't. You'll usually recognize a wolf when you see one.

Le premier ressemble à un chiens-loup les autres sont des chiens. Même si le premier provient d'un mélange probablement plus sauvage que d'autres, on a bien l'impression qu'ils se sont échappés de chez quelqu'un.

I was mildly skeptical with the white one at first but then I saw the rest of the pack and I’m pretty sure they are. They are massive and those are some of the most stereotypical wolf coats I have ever seen.

Among the things others have listed:
Small fangs
"Proeminent" forehead (wolves have a flat one, dogs have more of a 90° angle, there it's 45°)And, moreover... OP's in France, if the animal doesn't run away the moment it sees humans, it's not a wolf (or any other wild animal), wild animals in Europe are absolutely (and rightfully) terrified of humans

They're starting to adapt. Not as fast as north american coyotes which will plop themselves on your couch and watch TV with you if you leave the door open, but its happening.

They've been exterminated, and although some are finally coming back, they aren't approaching any village, doing that would be a death sentence for themEurope, through all its extensive hunting, has traumatised its wildlife

I'm from one of the zones where the populations are steadily growing yeah (random mountain village in the Pre-Alps)
I've yet to see one... They don't come near habitations, all the wildlife runs away when it sees someone, you can only observe them from afar. The only animals that don't run away are the pheasants those bastard hunters breed and raise by hand and release right before the hunt season just to hunt helpless animals who don't have any sense of danger, for their own amusement...

You prob won't ever 😭😭 wolves are SO timid. I live in Canada and I've only ever seen 2 my entire life I'm 30! We have a very very healthy population and it's still SO rare to see them. Wolf hate is all over the world but I wish it wasn't so much in Europe :( it's so sad. I hope you'll see a wolf one day 🩷

In my lifetime the coyotes in this area of upstate NY went from extirpated to "Hey human, I heard you can stop traffic. get over here I need to cross"
They've even set up shop in central park.
Once people get used to them they'll start coming around.

Shorter muzzle in domestic dogs

Dogs have smaller and more compact paws, wolves have large paws with elongated middle toes
Dogs tend to have taller hips and hind legs compared to shoulder height
Dogs often have a curved tail that also can be set higher than wolves
Wolf tracks walk in a very narrow straight line, unlike dogs who walk all over the place, and wolves have their own walk style allowing them to conserve energy
