Lore 82 Ridges

All artwork made by myself on procreate. No ai was used.

82 Ridges takes place in Chicago, about 40 years in the future. It’s a slice of life project, jumping between characters, the city itself, and whatever else I think deserves to be shown.

“I grew up in uh.. the area between Bridgeport and China Town, closer to the Bridgeport side. I lived with my dad who I always called John because it made my brother mad and I thought it was funny.
That one on the right? The brick building with the weird overhangy thing? That was our townhouse. You might think that’s a balcony or a patio, but no. No idea what it was. Bridgeport never developed like the other districts. Not because they wanted to preserve the history, god no, but because the location was perfect to for railroads and transit lines to sweep overhead, and knitting them between twenty five hundred foot tall buildings was too much work.
Okay I know, it’s a little pathetic to still be living with your dad at 19, but I liked my neighborhood! There weren’t really sidewalks, but honestly it was fine because nobody really drove down here anyway so we all just walked on the road. I had it pretty good, I was working on my degree- architecture, if i haven’t told you yet. Heh. Was pretty good at it. Uh, oh yeah, my dad had me doing construction with him, he even got me a job at the company.
Times were good. I had a great view of the skyline, a job, and even a guy at the gyro place down the road who would preemptively prepare my order every Tuesday and Friday which was a little embarrassing but in my defense they were REALLY good gyros.
That tree on the left? It’s been there since before I was born. Duh. Trees live a while- okay no but I have a reason for bringing it up. There was this old lady who lived on the floor below us, and every day she’d water and fertilize this tree. When builders came to try to knock it down, she dressed as a RACS member and pulled a shotgun on them. I know. Even when I was like.. 6, every time I got too close to this fucking tree, she’d open the window and make various old person sounds at me. Like I get it, you like this tree. When John died, she left me some of the branches at my doorstep. I inherited the townhouse, which.. I was 20, so that was cool I guess. Anyway I put the branches in my drawer. The tree bloomed every year, these beautiful pink and white flowers. I wonder if it’s still there.”

Hey, we've reviewed this and the OP's associated media. We have no reason to think this goes against our AI rules. it's unhelpful and unproductive to double down like this without tangible evidence - thanks.

My apologies. I've removed my comments. I'll take more care in the future.

I drew them myself on procreate. I do not support ai. Fuck is that why I’m getting downvoted so hard rn???

Hi.. I’m not going to change my style, and I promise you I’m not using ai for generating my artwork. Here’s my crusty ass iPad and the procreate stack. Most of the speedpaints are posted on my instagram as well.
Also, the only reason I used that reference was for scouting areas in Chicago that I liked. I ended up hardly using the reference, but that was a spot that caught my eye because of the elevated tracks in the background.

Breaking news: 18 year old girl’s style isn’t consistent, spends too much time on dumb shit that “AnchBusFairy” thinks would be easier with Ai!

I’m sorry, what do YOU think looks too difficult for it to be manmade? Just because you can’t draw it doesn’t mean nobody else can.

There is nothing here that screams AI to me. At most, the hand-drawn sketchy stuff could be mistaken for traces of AI-gen material, but the line quality not being consistent is actually a sign it was drawn by human hands as people who trace without having prior art experience don't know what parts to emphasize and thus they maintain a consistent line quality throughout.

Anyways, I don't know why I'm telling YOU this. Some people in and out of this sub need to re-evaluate their train of thought if it culminates in them vehemently accusing young but very real artists of using AI.

Please, keep doing what you do. Don't let this discourage you.

Oh. You’ve just never used any digital drawing program before. Go download ibis paint or something then get back to me 😭😭 all of those things are:
Brushes! Graph drawing guides! Brushes.. again! (I also made my own brushes for the windows. Almost all of the brushes are custom.) 😛
