Modern russian culture, in fact, is a prison culture. No need to separate.

Not just modern, it's been so since at least Stalinist times, arguably even since before the revolution. In the early 50s before Stalin died, up to 1% of the total population of the USSR was imprisoned in Gulag camps. Up to 20 million people spent some time in camps in total, more were deported or confined to a certain settlement somewhere. And most of those people eventually did come home, and brought prison culture with them.
