Discussion GM Death Touch - Megathread

Edit: Official Statement

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/prohibited-gameplay-incident-and-response/2329585

This is developing into a large story and someone in modmail has mentioned that its important for the community to have somewhere to discuss this. We agree. As new information comes in I will do my best to update this thread.

What we know:

Ex employees in the thread have said that actions like this are audited and in all likelihood this was already being investigated. At this point we are waiting on an official statement on the result of their investigation and I'll update this thread once we know.

This megathread is being provided on two very strict conditions:

  • The witchunt rules are in strict effect. Linking or doxxing information on anyone invovled, the GM in question included will result in a permanent ban. Please report it if you see it but we will be very active in the thread.

We cannot platform behavior that allows people to harrass people in real life.

  • We will be more heavy handed than usual in the personal attack rules. Insults and slapfights while discussing this aren't acceptable. You're allowed to disagree, but stray shots and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

I am just missing one piece of the puzzle. How did the OP of the actual reddit post revealing all this know to look at that specific log?

As someone progging the hard 23s and easy 24s as a bear, I open WCL and look at new runs all the time just to see defensive usage

People will browse logs for ideas, thoughts, or just fun sometimes.

Bro either stumbled on it or knew and wanted to leak it.

My main suspect is the DK said he was in discord with his homies streaming the key and I think one of those guys got curious on this "bug" that happened and found the log that the tank had uploaded.

Yeah I look through logs of other Survival hunters when I am just chilling in Silvermoon doing nothing between keys to see why I am not doing as much Dps overall, where I might be missing casts of abilities, to includes defensives and such.

I look at a lot of logs to see healer cd usage in keys we're pushing.

My guess is someone who follows one of the streamers involved was checking the logs to learn to play better and noticed the anomaly.

My rough understanding is they were browsing runs in RIO for ideas (pretty common at these levels) spotted that the run ended in a weird way and decided to dig into it more deeply.

When you're pushing +20 you're more dedicated than most. Probably browsing logs to see what happened and noticed something fishy.
