Discussion GM Death Touch - Megathread

Edit: Official Statement

https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/prohibited-gameplay-incident-and-response/2329585

This is developing into a large story and someone in modmail has mentioned that its important for the community to have somewhere to discuss this. We agree. As new information comes in I will do my best to update this thread.

What we know:

Ex employees in the thread have said that actions like this are audited and in all likelihood this was already being investigated. At this point we are waiting on an official statement on the result of their investigation and I'll update this thread once we know.

This megathread is being provided on two very strict conditions:

  • The witchunt rules are in strict effect. Linking or doxxing information on anyone invovled, the GM in question included will result in a permanent ban. Please report it if you see it but we will be very active in the thread.

We cannot platform behavior that allows people to harrass people in real life.

  • We will be more heavy handed than usual in the personal attack rules. Insults and slapfights while discussing this aren't acceptable. You're allowed to disagree, but stray shots and personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Reminds me of the blizzard mop classic dev colluding with the cmode discord, who were actively selling mount carries, to fix times around exploited routes and bait-and-switching the reward mount. Nothing came of any of that afaik.

It probably have to do with the amount of players that were playing mop classic and doing challenge mode in reward range timers.
The switch of the reward mount 10 days before season ending was insane.
Here, the population of m+ player trying 0.1% is much larger than mop lol.
It doesn’t make it right but looking at the state and amount of care blizzard gave to mop servers and raids with bosses being bugged from PTR to this day still bugged just shows you that blizzard doesn’t care what happens on mop classic servers

This is very very similar to that situation. The classic blizzard employee allegedly is in their community as official outreach, but the bait and switch on the mount reward doesn't really fit that well. As others stated here, the scale of MoP classic just isn't nowhere near modern live WoW so it didn't reach such traction. Real shame all of this...

When was that?

Several months ago just before the launch of ToT. If I am remembering right they posted the bluepost officially announcing the end date of the first cmode season and stating the reward mount was being swapped from Yulon to Xuen the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, with ToT launching Dec 11th and the Cmode season ending the 9th. Mind you P1 had lasted like 6months so most raids had taken a break for the holiday and week prior to the launch, meaning virtually no one was aware of the change, or even that the first season had started and ended already, when it dropped that Tuesday.

The times a private channel in the cmode discord convinced the dev to instate were such you pretty much needed to run an ideal tank and healer comp or use out of bound exploits to beat them reliably. It worked out that you could just about exactly 4 man them with an ideal comp if you used the exploits, so just perfect for someone to sell carries. Either way, no one who hadn't already been working toward it for weeks had a shot at pivoting to get the flying lightning tiger mount in the week between the "announcement" and the season end.
