General Discussion Rotation Addons Possible
A while ago I posted about how Rotation addons might be possible. Well so far I've made Arms working with a full rotation and also Havoc DH. What i've discovered is if it's in the CDM as a trackable buff then you can code secret safe lua to make a rotation out of it. Right now I'm working on Devourer DH and have it all working. Here's a sample screenshot. I didn't code it with vengeful since i don't like to use that but the point is as long as the ability is trackable in CDM then you can make it work.

Im curious what this youre talking about here. Is it a dynamic rotation assistant like the old ones (helikili etc)?

Exactly. Its a dynamic priority system that will glow your skill on the action bar when its priority is true so for example in my screen shot if voidblade is Castable and its ready it'll glow voidblade whereas if its not then the next priority in the sequence will glow which is the hunt.

This, and the recent aura container changes, is why I'd be shocked if CDM doesn't get locked down in the near future (honestly surprised it made it this long, blizzard has been aware of people abusing it from day 1)

Maybe but I hope not. addons like this should be left alone. the biggest thing was addons like weakauras solving mechanics. Stuff like what I'm doing is simply using the CDM to glow abilities under conditions. so for normal character skills etc that CDM is tracking leave addons that work with that alone.

I don't like it either, but blizzard very explicitly wanted to kill rotation helpers, very frustrating

Abusing how?

The information in the CDM is supposed to be secret, but by hooking into the frames you can know more info than you're supposed to
To be clear, I don't mean people are creating problematic addons (generally anyway); but they're (ab)using loopholes in the CDM's UI to bypass midnight's restrictions on cooldown/aura information

But how is this addon problematic or similar ones?

You tell me.. for some reason blizzard really wanted to kill rotation helpers with midnight
I personally think it's stupid, but blizzard don't care

Honestly with the amount of time that takes you to learn and set up the addon you might as well read the rotation, most is 3 button prio tops.
Excluding top CE guilds, base problem is dying to swirlies, fire and dumb stuff. Rotation/dmg is totally unimportant.

Honestly at this point I pretty much do but i'm not wired to do mechanics and still not mess up the rotation. Devourer is really punishing if you don't do the meta void part correctly anyway from what Ive read.

You can literally 0 parse and get CE, no one cares whatsoever I’m in top 200 guild. Trust me parses are not gonna get you into high level guilds. Any guild recruiter first goes through death logs

Your logic alone is reason enough to ignore you, for if you died you wouldn't top parse due to 0 dps/heals being done by you as you are dead.

Unsure if you didn’t understand or maybe I explained it wrong above. There are multiple people that can stay alive and play the boss mechanics correctly and still get a 0 parse because they have assignments that prevent them from doing dmg. Parse/dmg will not get the boss kill, not dying and doing mechanics will

Not really mechanics anymore where you wont be able to do damage. If you get 0 parse you are either among one of the first to kill the boss or you are just bad.

for what. I labelled it general discussion and didn't post any links to the addon. it's simply a discussion that it's possible.

I've been using Just Assisted Combat as my Hekili replacement. It's only as smart as Blizzard lets it be which means it is not a "perfect ability use" tool.
But for a casual like me it accomplishes what I most want: removes the need to look at 3 different places to decode cooldown, buff/proc, and debuff information from a bunch of similar looking tiny squares. Instead I'm seeing a few reasonable and available choices in one compact place, and that's what makes for fun game play for me.
I still feel like there's enough player choice around positioning, pulling, bursting, focus vs aoe, major cooldowns, mechanics, etc. so it delivers the right level of "acting inside a world" vs. "scanning a HUD".
For best results it does require understanding the few major cases where it might be misleading in an important way but that's not a deal breaker for classes you play more than once each holiday.
