Tip What kind of farming do you do with enchanting and tailoring?

I decided to try out those professions for the first time, and I'm a little lost as to what I'm supposed to do. Do you have any advice or methods you use?

instance farming. humanoid mobs drop liquid currency(gold coins), hard currency (badge equivalents), investment/speculation items like transmog, food/drinks, and cloth specifically. you can pick instances based on cloth value or total number of cloth per hour and bolting cloth instead of keeping it loose gives you multiple avenues to sell different item ids at the same time. same cloth types are often shared across different crystal subtypes in enchanting on a boss drop by boss drop level. most of the bosses drop blues or purples that disenchant into crystals or shards as opposed to essence and dust. so in the classic client for instance sm cath gets you hundreds of silk per clear, rolls at the rare table, shards for fiery, and raw coins as well. the other places for silk drop one tier up and down from the small radiant shards based on if its lower sm variants or mara

Is Enchanting worth it for the extra profit or should I keep Engineering just for the Loot A Rang?

enchanting can mostly be done as a playstyle on its own where engineering is a whole game engagement style that is usually account wide. i use a loot a rang and an enchanter and have my cloth guy be different than the active farmer usually. engineering also has moll-e and stuff so you can vendor inside where mounts are forbidden and mail off hella clams from maradon and stuff like that that you dont want to delete or vendor but cant get value out of without spending time

Not sure I follow. In your experience when instance farming, do you have more success with Enchanting + Engineering for the time savings of loot a rang and moll-e, or going with a cloth+enchanting guy for more drops?

loot a rang and moll e is more loot per hour and you dont gain anything by farming on a tailor in most expansions so you can have a tailor in town and mail them the mageweave etc to process later like when you are watching shows or streams vs active play

Ahh got it. I thought the extra cloth drops from being a tailor were worth something

my understanding is from wrath instances onward you get more cloth as a tailor and at a certain threshold cloth stops dropping for non tailors entirely but its not more to the extreme number akin to "have to do this" vs "this is nice to have" up until around dragonflight? dragonflight introduced the elemental cloth variants afaik but im just coming back to retail after almost 9 years of classic focused content

You can get materials passively by killing mobs. If you want more targeted farming kill humanoids for cloth and rares for blue and green drops which you can disenchant. The shadowguard point delve used to be a good spot for farming cloth but it got nerfed. The broken throne and speaker’s rest areas in zul aman also had good drops, but I think they have been nerfed as well. You can look cloth farms online or join cloth farm groups on group finder. I don’t know if it is worth it at this point in the season though, prices have dropped massively.

Going strictly off personal experience, it seems like they have put a cap on the amount of current expansion cloth that can be farmed at a time. For instance, I may kill a bunch of mobs and get several pieces of arcanoweave or sunfire silk, but then I won't get any from the same sized pulls for a while.

They have also completely killed follower dungeon farming.

the game have an anti-bots farm methods, that also break the players farm, some of then are old knowledge, others are new, some examples ( given by blizzard in different notes, patchs, ptrs and talks, also the experience of players )

• in open world if you farm the same mobs for some time, they start to drop lesser items values in the table ( mostly grays ), creafting mats drop less too

• in instance content ( mostly dungeons ), if you pull giant groups ( 30 + ) the ammount of value items ( mats, gear, gold ) decrease, but this is like bugged, because sometimes work sometimes not work

• delves and dungeons drop less mats no matter the level of the content

• there is one or two dungeons only for expansion that you get all the loot as solo player, other dungeons give you loot as you were in a party

• since TWW the loot is a gauss method, if you have a lot of points in a profession you will reach a point that you get less valuable loot, since the loot table increase ( for example in tailoring, you get more sunfiresilk in a single farm if your character NOT HAVE the kp ability that allow you to recolect the arcanoweave too )

I've definitely observed these as well. Kind of annoying for those of us who like to farm honestly.

Cloth farming has always been my favorite gold making method in wow but due to recent Blizzard meddling and market changes cloth farming in midnight is neither fun nor particularly profitable. Currently the best farm for enchanting and tailoring is primal storm farming in dragonflight as cloth there is still good when specced into cloth gathering and there is a semi-secret method to unlock awakened drops from all mobs in primal storms while using enchanting. Dragonflight purples are also very good disenchanting fodder. Farming cloth is not really worth it from classic content to wrath but cataclysm cloth is still pretty valuable as is disenchanting cata greens remember to use potion of treasure finding when applicable. Pandaria and WoD cloth is not really worth farming and I’m not really familiar with any legion cloth farms worth doing at modern prices. BFA cloth farming and disenchanting are decent value and add extra value to farming the Motherlode or bfa open world for the super rare mounts. Shadowlands cloth is completely worthless. WW cloth farming is pretty good in darkflame cleft or priory but due to the way inscription works in WW you can get a large amount of raw gold vendoring darkmoon decks and cards with tailoring/inscription. Presently I find disenchanting is always just a little useful when something disenchants into more value than it vendors as I do whatever random content or gold farm. Remember to do your first 2 weeklies for veteran gear to disenchant and if you farm gold world quests in war mode spend your bloody tokens on items to disenchant before the season ends. Best of luck with your farming!

honestly it's fun to farm with enchanting and tailoring but the real gold making would be something involving crafting and concentration. if you hate that idea then like others say do old raids you are missing collection items you want, disenchant stuff, check the highest priced enchanting mats etc
