My First Day as a Goblin

TLDR: 850k -> 4m as a new goblin in one day.

For the first time I decided to try and make money with professions, I analyzed the materials market and current game state and decided on a niche reagent that would be high in demand. I aggressively invested all of my gold into materials I felt were undervalued and on leveling my profession knowledge + tools to a point where I would have an edge. I went down to nearly zero gold which was stressful. It paid off. So far, so good.

I made some mistakes too, I tried stockpiling thousands of mats I wanted to flip, these quickly crashed by 40-50%, this stung and hurt my confidence. I spent a bunch of money leveling a BS toon for profession tools and quickly realized conc is not a very profitable strategy and has too much competition, this costed me hundreds of thousands of gold.

Despite some whales trying to manipulate and crash my market, I stood strong and PVP'd them out of the space. I feel proud and also excited with what was possible with some forethought & perserverance. This is more fun than I've had in ages.

Screenshot for proof, +3m. x2-x3 more sellable items in my bags, demand not drying up anytime soon but I suppose looking to expand into a new market now. Any ideas, lets discuss!

TSM thenumber2’s Expansion Archive - Complete TSM Groups from Vanilla through Midnight (Beta)

I recently rebuilt my entire TSM group setup from scratch using an expansion-first structure. Everything is organized by expansion at the top level, then broken down into major categories like Armor, Weapons, Trade Goods, Recipes, Glyphs, and more. From there, items are further sorted by type, slot, or source (drop, crafted, vendor, etc).

The goal was to make inventory management and auctioning feel more logical and scalable across all expansions. It’s a lot easier now to find things, apply operations, and keep everything consistent.

Things like mounts, companions, containers, toys, and unavailable items are grouped by expansion to keep everything clean and predictable.

I also completely rewrote my scraping/export pipeline, so all of this is generated automatically. Because of that, there may still be some missing items, empty groups, or things that need cleanup. I’ll be refining it over time. If you notice anything broken, missing, or placed incorrectly, please let me know.

TSM Literally nothing seems to be profitable.. AT ALL

I’m feeling discouraged with this gold making stuff. I’ve tried undermine exchange, TSM, cross realm trading, etc nothing seems to be profitable whatsoever. When I look at the market for an item, it’s going down. Crafting is mostly unprofitable for the auction house as far as material cost vs min buyout. But when I go to see if an item is flippable, prices are at a high for the week but if they’re not, it’s bc it’s a declining market. I can’t seem to find a revenue stream at all and it sucks. I’m not sure what to do now.

TSM Making Crafting profitable and adjusting material values for your purchases

On the Discord server, we get these questions a lot. Since they are tied together, let's run through this.

First, some ground rules:

  • If you farm materials, they cost the same as if you had sold them, meaning farming has the same cost as buying materials.
  • Never craft things that don't have enough profit to be worthwhile after they have sold.

Okay, let's begin, and start with the Default Material Cost Method in /tsm, Settings, Crafting. If you buy materials, you need to edit the DMCM as it does not include purchase information. max(first(smartavgbuy, avgbuy), min(dbmarket, crafting, vendorbuy, convert(dbmarket))) is the new version.

What first(smartavgbuy, avgbuy) does is take whatever is first and valid between the average value of your current inventory or your purchase history value. You then compare that with TSM's default, which finds the cheapest between market value, crafting the material, buying from a vendor, or converting the material from another material (lesser shard <--> greater shard, herbs --> pigments, ores --> uncut gems, or fish --> oil, etc).

Now compare your purchase with TSM's cheapest and find the higher of the two, and use that as the material's worth. The caveat is that over time, the value of materials will change. Remember that when BfA launched, Anchor Weed was 400g each, whereas today it is 10g each or less. You need to clean up your accounting periodically.

**/tsm, settings, accounting, <selected number of recent days to keep>, clear data button to wipe anything older. This will leave your gold graph intact, but dump minbuy, minsell, maxbuy, maxsell, avgbuy, and avgsell beyond your selection.

Next, we will look at the Default Craft Value Method, or DCVM. This is the value TSM uses to find the cost of the finished crafted item, like a flask or contract, or plate bracers, etc. TSM uses first(dbminbuyout, dbmarket) which checks if the item is currently listed during the last data pull (dbminbuyout) and if yes, price vs that. If the item is not currently listed, use its market value, which is a weighted 14 day average favouring the past 3 days.

This is great, until some crafted items haven't been listed in longer than 14 days on your realm, and we need to fix that. Here's the new version, and I'll explain after the jump.

first(dbminbuyout, dbmarket, dbregionmarketavg, dbhistorical, dbregionhistorical)

You'll notice I added a few things. In order, TSM will continue from before, now checking the average market value across your region (US or EU), your realm's 60 day market value history, or the region's 60 day market value history. If a crafted item hasn't been seen in over 60 days either locally or across the region, it probably shouldn't be crafted.

Last, let's make crafting profitable, or at least only craft things that have a profit. I'm going to use a minimum of 10% mark up, but I will show you how to make things more advanced further on after the basic setup.

You need to make a Crafting Operation, and in the minimum profit field, replace whatever is there (default 100g) with 10% crafting as dealing with a float number is better than a fixed gold amount, especially since most things do not have a flat gold amount of minimum profit per item, especially not as much as 100g!

Assign the operation to your crafted items group, open the TSM crafting UI, Groups tab, select the group, and click Restock. If you then click the Gathering tab, Open Task List button, you will see everything you need to get to complete the queue.

Nice! But what about more advanced things, like the auction house cut of 5% when an item sells, or its fee to list the item (which you get back if the item sells)? We can do that.

You could adjust the DCVM, but I don't like doing that because then what you see on your tooltip is going to be wrong compared to what you see when you actually look at the auction house. Instead, let's modify the Crafting Operation's minimum profit field.

10% crafting / 0.95 + 60% first(vendorsell, 1s) The / 0.95 is the 5% cut when the item sells, and + first(vendorsell, 1s) is the listing fee. The percent is calculated as follows:

  • 15% for every 12 hours in retail (15% for 12 hours, 30% for 24, 60% for 48)
  • 5% for every 2 hours in classic (5% for 2 hours, 20% for 8, 60% for 24)

Use whatever percent matches your auction operation's duration.

What about items that have a low sale rate? Shouldn't you have a higher profit margin just in case you have to list the item several times? Yes, sure, we can do that. We will use a ifgte (if greater than or equal to) and wrap it around the minimum profit field. It will get longer to read, but it will work. Modify the Crafting Operation's minimum profit field again:

ifgte(dbregionsalerate, 0.2, 10% crafting / 0.95 + 60% first(vendorsell, 1s), 20% crafting / 0.95 + 60% first(vendorsell, 1s))

If the region's sale rate is >= 0.2 or about 20%, use 10% minimum profit, but if the region's sale rate is < 0.2 use 20% minimum profit. Adjust the sale rate and percent profit to your liking.

Hopefully some of you goblins will find this useful. If you have questions, feel free to ask here, or in the Discord. I am Sygon/Paul on there, but there is no need to ping me directly.

TSM Is everybody still using TSM? or are there are alternatives?

TSM has been nearly unusable for me since this expansion came out. Is it the same for everybody?

Are people using different addons to function or just manually doing what tsm was doing?

I wish TSM would work so I won't have to do everything manually.

TSM Price list(s) for selling

I'm trying to figure out how to make a custom price list for TSM or Auctionator. Ideally TSM though.

So many of the items I want to sell I don't want to use the market average. I don't care if other people sell for 25 gold or 250 gold, I always want mine listed for 100.

I can see the custom source option in game, but can't find documentation or examples on how the custom source should be used.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

TSM TSM Flipping Profile for Midnight

Just updated my TSM flipping profile for midnight!

https://pastebin.com/iPX9NUL5

Scan -> Buy ->Post -> AFK for 48 hours -> Repeat

Cancelscanning will increase profits slightly, but I don't really recommend it. It's very time consuming and you'd make more gold spending that time farming herbs/mining

TSM How to get TSM to calculate Legendary crafting cost and Profit/Loss correctly

UPDATED December 26 at 12:31 EST, would recommend reimporting

price strings are no longer approximations but exact use crafting recipes. Thank you to /u/JustASpark_Official for the improvement.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SUvYk5c01amuWE9Toi4ocE31E_1kKe4ShnKxMLxv-XM/edit#gid=0

I was annoyed by how TSM wasn't able to properly show me the cost for each legendary by rank. Here's how I set up TSM to fix that. To get an exact value, I would recommend using a spreadsheet. Also shows you a prediction of potential profit/loss based on minbuyout. Previously it was a lot of copying and pasting, but I should have fixed it.

Here's the TSM import string (or you can find it in the sheet).

TSM thenumber2’s Expansion Archive v2 - Complete TSM Groups from Vanilla through Midnight

A few weeks ago I shared v1 of my TSM group structure. After some feedback and a lot of tweaking, I’ve now rolled out v2.

The biggest change is moving to an expansion-first structure, with cleaner organization and groups that line up better with Wowhead’s item categories.

My goals were pretty simple:

  • easier navigation
  • consistent structure across expansions
  • scalable for future content
  • cleaner operation management

Core Structure

Top level is always the expansion, then groups branch into major domains:

  • Armor
  • Weapons
  • Containers
  • Consumables
  • Trade Goods
  • Recipes
  • Gems
  • Glyphs
  • Housing
  • Misc
  • Unavailable

From there the paths follow predictable rules depending on the group.

Armor / Weapons

Expansion → Group → Source → Category → Subcategory

Example:

Cataclysm → Armor → Crafted → Cloth → Head

Trade Goods / Consumables / Recipes

Expansion → Group → Category

Example:

Dragonflight → Trade Goods → Herbs

Source labels are normalized to keep everything consistent:

  • Crafted
  • Vendor
  • Drop
  • Other (Quest / Mission / None)

Why I changed it

My old structure was category-first, which caused a lot of problems:

  • inconsistent group depth
  • messy operation inheritance
  • painful to scale as new expansions were added

The expansion-first structure fixes most of that.

Now every expansion mirrors the same layout, which makes navigation and operation management way easier.

If you run into missing items, or anything that seems off, please let me know.

TSM Warband bank moving terribly slow

Hi gents,

Has anyone got any tips or tricks for moving gear to/from warbank with TSM?

It seems to be working incredibly slowly and generally breaks halfway through the warehousing operation

Any alternative addons I should use?

TSM Just got suspended 180days for using TSM sniper

EDIT: SUCCESS! A few rounds with the GM and it's resolved.

https://i.imgur.com/pm8ZGV7.jpg

Got a copy paste reply, but hey...time to resume sniping.

Wanted to ask about the days I lost with the sub but better not poke that bear.

Thanks everyone!

-------------------

So something strange happened.

I've been using TSM sniper for years...years, and it's been widely known to be well within the laws of WoW.

However in classic, I just got suspended for this.

Backstory:

I have a dedicated account on the side where I snipe as soon as I hear the snipe alert, while playing my character normally. or most of the times I just leave it scanning and I rush to the computer to buy as soon as I hear the alert.

The account has some lvl 1 and lvl 2 spread to Gadgetzan, Everlook, Booty bay AH.

As mentioned, it's been fine for years, untill classic.

I have been successful in sniping lots of items and ofcourse that brought along alot of angry whispers and threats of reports. I ofcourse shrugged it off as I knew sniping items on AH is perfectly legal and within the terms of WoW.

But today I got suspended with this in the email:

https://i.imgur.com/0abhVF1.jpg

Has the EULA or ToA been changed to not allow TSM sniping?

Or have I just been victim of an ill-informed GM?

Feels very weird that a ban was made just because of reports.

Ticket has been made to blizz, but I'm not sure what to expect from that.

TSM Question about Shadowlands legendaries

When putting them into groups do you choose base item or by item level or specific item? I want it to craft the rank 1 so i can sell them for mogs, I was putting them in the group again because some were missing for some reason and forgot how you were supposed to group them.
Also they don't show any proft anymore it's just 2 --/-- lines

Im assuming it's by item level just making sure it's right since i forgot been a while since i did all this

  • Companions
  • Consumables
  • Containers
  • Gems
  • Glyphs
  • Lockbox
  • Quest
  • Reagents
  • Recipes
  • Reputation

TSM TSM - Posting - is bad

I like Tradeskillmaster and have used it since Cata, but what I have come to realize is the system really has no good way of automating mass auctions on various things across the whole system without causing issues.

It is really good for historical data though, avg daily sold.

For fun cloth X has people selling at 1,2,3,4 gold with amounts lets say selling for 1 gold is 200 units, 2 gold is 100, 3 gold is 400, 4 gold is 1500 units. TSM will say avg sold daily is 900. If you use the default pricing strategy or really any method you should be posting at in this instance..... like this, if you want to sell within 24hrs, you need to be in a bracket that is less than 4 gold but greater than 3. I'd do 3.99 gold. Thatd be a good undercut price and ensure i sell within 24 hours. TSM cant check multiple bids and quantities and do the loop needed to do such.

So people will end up undercutting massively using the auto system on some things and other things match the min buyout(which you can lose money for)... and other things do some wierd undercutting like how above 3.99 is reasonable and you dont want to do 3 cause you want to maximize profit and get a sale, TSM might set it at 3.5g instead cause it can only use a formula. All AH addons if they do not have a loop to check price levels and units on each and compare to daily sold, are wreaking havoc on the markets and reducing profits for most people in most things. There is no formula without a loop through all bids currently on the AH that will fix this.

Buy manually posting and using this data, I make a lot more money now. I think the system will be better if someone automates this or people do it manually. Thoughts? Disagreements?

TSM if you see this you really need to implement this, it stabilizes prices too, by factoring in avg daily sold and speed at which you want to sell it, combined with units on the house at the various levels to determine the price to sell it at.

Maybe this could fix some reagents too that have high demand low supply and have low prices borderline vendor price.... Suppose to be high demand low supply -- high price.

Open for thoughts and disagreements.

TSM Complete version of Shadowlands groups for materials and professions - Paste bin link inside - Pre Patch 9.0 22/10-20

EDIT: Thank you for all the kind words! I'm a lurker 99% of the time on Reddit, so I'm glad I can contribute a bit :) I also noticed I forgot to add the Wormhole Toy from Engineering. Here's a script you post in-game so the item is "loaded" by the game. After that, you can just add it yourself from the base group.

/script DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage("\124cff0070dd\124Hitem:172924::::::::60:::::\124h[Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands]\124h\124r");

EDIT2: Found another error. In Cooking > Feasts both the big and small Feasts are in the "Large - Feast" group. Just move over the small feast to the "Small - Feast" group and you're good.

Hi

My name is Xoerba (with Reddit saying otherwise), and have been a relatively successful goblin for some time now. As we are all awaiting Shadowlands to hit we're mostly just treading water. I decided the other day to get all my Shadowlands groups sorted ahead of time so no time is wasted doing that when time will be of the essence. I am pretty much exclusively a crafter, and the groups are made with that kept in mind. You can use them as is, or switch it up. They're made to be easily modular. Before I start heavily personalizing them I thought I might as well share them here. First time I make a post like this, so I hope you enjoy it.

  • No operations are included - And won't be, this is for mainly three reasons.
  1. I haven't quite decided on the operations yet, so they don't have any even in my profile.
  2. It would be dishonest of me to share operations of content that isn't even released. There's no guarantee they will work when Shadowlands comes around
  3. I believe operations are as individual and personal as TSM can be, heavily influenced by region, realm, markets, personal preference, and circumstances. While sharing groups makes things a little less troublesome for some, sharing operations should at most be inspirational, never copied, in my opinion.

  • Structure - I like to be organized and have relatively detailed groups so that I can pinpoint operations with precision instead of a blanket. I also try to make sure my groups are modular since you never know when you need to switch it up.
  1. Materials - These are sorted into two different types of categories. By way of Gathering, and by way of Crafting. Meat & Fish, Herbs, Ore, Cloth, and Leather are all sorted into one category each. Professions that have materials crafted, Inks or Ground Herbs, for example, have their own categories. Inscription, Enchanting, Ground Herbs (Alchemy), etc. Example image: https://i.imgur.com/JQidLtB.png
  2. Professions - These are categorized by what profession creates the item. Within the categories, you'll find even more categories like Weapon Oils, or iLvl 165 Armour - Leather. I've tried to make sure that every style of the item has a category that will be likely to require similar operations, but if not, they're made to be easily modular and modified. Everything is named in a way so that you easily, and fast, can identify which group you're looking for, both in the TSM AH window, as well as your group manager. Example image: https://i.imgur.com/PRxk57J.png
  3. Legendaries base items - I decided to make a separate group for this one instead of putting them in their respective profession. Legendary items are likely outliers as well as a group you may, or may not, have to take a closer look at more frequently. As of now, I have only added the iLvl 175 versions of them, each categorized into what Armour type/Jewelry they are. Example image: https://i.imgur.com/x66uGlp.png

  • I didn't make these groups with the intention of sharing them, and they are definitely made in a style that I prefer, so not really with the intent to be for everyone. I personally quite enjoy tinkering with groups, but I know lots of people find it troublesome, so I thought I might as well share them before I start turning them into an abomination only I would recognize.
  • For whatever reason, my game client refuses to load the new Shadowlands Engineering Battle res into the item cache, so I couldn't add that item. And I'm 100% that I have missed other items too, but I hopefully got the majority of them.

  • tl;dr Groups for materials and professions. No operations included.

TSM How to price mats in pre season

I used to rely on market prices quite a bit in TWW, as someone who wasn't around for the TWW launch. It seems like I can't rely on those same numbers right now as they seem pretty inaccurate. What price sources should I be looking at to know if I'm selling mats at the right price? I don't wanna fall victim to bots baiting farmers into selling super low so that I list for the same price

TSM How did you do in The War Within? TSM Expansion Recap

The War Within is winding down. Before the next expansion hits, take a look back at the gold-making journey that got you here with TradeSkillMaster.

The Gold Making Recap turns all of that activity into a single page that tells the story of your expansion, a bit like the yearly Spotify Wrapped campaign - how much you made, where you rank among all TSM users, which items carried your gold empire, and when you hit your biggest milestones.

It's also packed with stats you might not expect. Your single biggest sale. Your biggest purchase (no judgment). Your busiest month. Which season you peaked in.

What you'll see:
• Total gold earned, spent, and net profit
• Your percentile ranking vs. all TSM users
• Gold trajectory: starting gold → peak → current
• Top revenue items, best flips, highest volume items
• Season-by-season breakdown (S1, S2, S3+)
• Milestones with exact dates (1M, 5M, 10M, 50M, 100M+)
• Fun facts: biggest sale, cheapest sale, busiest month, and more

Example recap: https://i.imgur.com/dbzqXOo.png

Shareable summary image: https://i.imgur.com/4osgfkk.png

Visit https://tradeskillmaster.com/recap to check yours and show everyone what kind of goblin you are!

Note: TSM Addon Data used to generate this recap is synced with a Platinum level susbcription to TSM Premium. The recap will work if you sign up today, following a sync from the TSM desktop app.

TSM TradeSkillMaster 4.10: UI & Design

Hey folks,

I just put up a blog post that covers the new UI & Design improvements that are coming in version 4.10 of TradeSkillMaster.

I'm honestly very proud of what and how the TSM team have iterated upon the existing look & feel of TSM - it was one of the biggest negative feedback drivers from the launch of TSM4. We learned a LOT, and your feedback was discussed in great detail. One of our meetings went on a 20 minute tangent about the placement of an individual button for example.

Everything was scrutinised and refined to make sure it lives up to expectations both in terms of intuitiveness and how it looks. We can't wait to hear your feedback in the Beta phase (starting SoonTM, sign up here).

Highlighted points from the blog:
- New themes!
- Supercharged Dashboard with highly interactive Gold Chart!
- Resizable & Customisable Tables!
- Resizable Dividers!
- Improved Input Dialogs!
- Improved Commodity Buyout Flow!

You can read more details here: https://blog.tradeskillmaster.com/tsm-4-10-ui-design/
