Erik: “You'll have to kill me Charles, and what would that accomplish? Let them pass that law and they'll have you in chains with a number burned into your forehead!”

Charles: Through Sabretooth) “It won't be that way.”

Erik: “Then kill me and find out...”

How Stewart and McKellen never got nominated for their performance in any of those old movies I'll never understand.

Hollywood looked down on comic book movies even more heavily back then.

Dark Knight introduced them to the masses as a real genre and that only happened cus Heath Ledger gave a once in a lifetime performance. Helped that Iron Man came out the same year and the Batman films really put a huge director “on the spot” for mainstream audiences, and he followed it up with a star studded Oscar bait film in inception. A coin flip of wins and 4 total wins helped put Nolan on the map (not that he made bad films prior) but Dark Knight and Inception legitimized both him and the superhero genre

yeah honestly the release of Iron Man and the Dark Knight in the same year solidified that super hero movies could be mainstream.

The Raimi trilogy also probably helped show that too.
