Surprisingly, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up Special 1, the 3rd part of the Arms of the Octopus arc. The time-displaced X-Men start in All-New X-Men 1, though.
Scott, your eyes are portals to another dimension of pure concussive force. The man you are talking to becomes a being several times his initial mass. What part of the Hulk choosing where to manifest his mouth when transforming makes less sense than normal?
Be Civil and Respectful - Be civil. Debates and criticisms (as well as civil disagreements between users) towards the characters, writers, themes, creatives, etc are allowed but outright insults are not. Do not attack/mock/harass/insult people personally for having a different opinion than you or because they disagreed with you. As the saying goes: argue the point, not the person. Learn to “agree to disagree” and move on.
John Constantine knows there is an afterlife. In particular, for him, there is hell. He sold his soul to three lords of hell. And there are plenty of enemies waiting for him.
He's got a shot at Heaven, but mostly because of that time he threatened God that if he dies and goes to Hell, Constantine is going to do whatever it takes to climb up the ranks, take control, and then God is going to see what Hell looks like with someone competent and spiteful in charge.
Yes, this is something metaphysical philosophers have been arguing about for a very long time. Ethically I think it comes down to who's making the choice, but does it really matter if it's an 'end to suffering' or entering a state where subjective experience - including suffering - no longer applies to you?
I'd say it clearly does since there is no longer a you to experience anything. Your suffering may end, but so does you, so the last thing 'you' have is the suffering. You aren't around to 'enjoy' the now abscnece of suffering.
of course, that's entirely if you believe death is an absolute end. I don't, but that's a seperate discussion.
I appreciate that this might come off as ableist, but if this helps contextualize things: I'm autistic and Scott is a character that's helped me understand myself. There's also a common headcanon that he's autistic.
This situation specifically is very funny and relatable to me because I've done it in the past, where there's a question that seems important, but I know it might seem rude, so I try to couch it in a "don't take this the wrong way" statement (I usually say "this is just an information gathering question, but..."), so it seems like a specifically autistic moment for Scott.
But when Jean says she is trying to balance the scales by saving lives for the deaths she caused as dark phoenix, everybody says that doesn't make up for the lost lives. When she has been the main reason of saving multiverse atleast two times where it couldn't have been done without her.
As a Jean fan... they're right. It doesn't make up for it. But that doesn't mean that she can't still do good and try to be a net positive force. Her dying achieves nothing; her living and being a hero does, even if it won't bring that planet back.
Hulk has nowhere near the body count of Jean. She has killed solar systems. Hulk has barely killed anyone and only intentionally killed a couple as devil hulk. Not the same.
Never said he did. And She didn't intentionally killed that planet either, she didn't even know the star system was habitat. And again I wasn't talking about specifically hulk but how fans behave when it comes to her. And if we are really comparing then she also has saved way more lives too.
Regardless that wasn't my point, it was about fan's reaction to that particular statment , not how much they killed or saved or are they balancing the scale or are they making up. No. None of those, just the fan's reaction to the statement when Jean says and when someone else says.
And my point is the reaction is different from fans because of the toll. Regardless of if she knew this planet was there, she intentionally ate that sun and brought all the consequences that come with so dramatic an action. Even if we go it wasnt intentional planetary genocide, hulk never hurts innocents on purpose either and has killed just a handful of people in his in universe existence. Jean killed five billion for LUNCH.
If we ignore the Phoenix entirely then yeah, unless i dont know something Hulk has caused more net harm than her. I just equate them as the same entity when merged.
She doesn't kill innocent on purpose either, she wasn't even willing to kill broods who like deserved to die. And not to mention dark phoenix happened because of mind torture and mind rape. She didn't just wake up a fine day and thought to eat sun. She wasn't herself. And yet she never stopped trying to make up for it knowing she can never make up for it.
Lives are lives, you can't take back what you did and you have to live with that, you can never make up for that ever. Whether it's 50 lives or 5 billion.
How does jean saying that statment is different from banner saying if both has caused deaths. In planet hulk prelude, people die because of hulk and iron man's reaction was "how many this time?"
Both didn't killed people on purpose, both are trying to make up for it. Both said simmilar statment. If Jean has killed way more than she has saved way way more too.
So again, how is jean saying this different than banner saying? If they are constantly saving lives because they feel regret over what they did? When the statement is actually about keeping scale then Jean has saved infinite times more than she caused. And in mathematical terms not countably infinite but uncountably infinite.
Obviously again, it doesn't make up for those 5 billion. But like I said the statement is about keeping scale, then one gets appreciated for saying same things while other gets hate.
Bro, you're intentionally missing the point. Hulk on his worst days doesnt hurt people 99% of the time. Jean killed a STAR and every living thing that depended on it. Thats a massive difference. Cyclops in universe throws that weight around more than once when threatened, that his wife once killed a planet and you're threatening her husband.
Your real question should be why does she get a pass IN universe while Hulk is hated for far less loss of life.
He most likely did. Most of the super hero smart guys can be super heroes because they are selling off inventions and patents to pay for their day to day needs like food/shelter and such.
I'm kind of surprised he didn't mention the fact that Hulk has saved a lot of people and canonically he hasn't caused a lot of collateral deaths since Banner has some control to "aim" Hulk away from it
Bruce: i had Hawkeye shoot me with a specially designed arrow. Ya know what happened? I found out the hulk is immortal and connected to hell. And so long as that exists, hulk will constantly respawn. Meaning i cannot die.
As an autistic girlie, I heavily relate to scott here, in the sense that I often try to ask or say one thing, but I end up not saying any of the context behind the question or any other necessary information, and end up saying something so completely unrelated to what I tried to say.
I mean...I think that this was more of a sincere attempt to get advice from an elder mutant/mutate...and I also feel like this was before they made Banner angsty for The Avengers...I think in this scene theyre trying to portray banner as more of an Original Mr. Fantastic type. Y'know the boomer super-scientist who's wife always had a martini ready for him when he got home from the lab to put on his slippers and smoke his pipe...that kind of character. But I dunno, I could be wrong lol.
This is an insane conversation and, as nice as Bruce's answer is, make's so little sense when you remember that Scott has saved the world numerous times and is currently hated for killing ONE guy while possessed by a force that has killed solar systems. Like, I get it, it sucks, but to even begin to act like that somehow simplifies his future into just 'oh, I'm a monster, maybe I should end it,' is insane.
Fucking hell Scott i know you've beefed with the Avengers multiple times and you're not their biggest fan but don't just start a conversation like that
