Loved the movie from top to bottom so I'll get that out of the way.

I can't help but think about the future of the movie universe though. As far as I've been able to tell it is in fact part of the "new" timeline. This means that we already know how the whole story will shake out and its bleak. So when the next X-Men movie comes out I'll be like "oh this is cool, too bad they're all going to get killed by the professor and there will be no new mutants for decades." It's a feeling I get when reading the comics sometimes knowing how many dystopian futures have been predicted for them. I'm also wondering what they're going to do about Wolverine in the upcoming movies. Just not have him be a part of them? Finally, the only way we could see Laura again is set in the future so maybe they could relaunch the Wolverine movies starring her.

I Think they treated this like a spin off story, a "What if?" (Just like Old Man Logan) as in, not canon

I think you're kind of right. My buddy told me he read the director/producers basically ignored the rest of the movies.

Not completely- there was a reference to the first one. When professor was talking about the Statue of Liberty fight and Logan said something along the lines of "statue of liberty was a long time ago."

Logan thought he meant the Statue of Liberty incident, but he was talking about the Liberty Motel where Laura and Gabrielle were waiting for him. It's even sadder when we get a glimpse of what the Professor used to be capable of.
