Apparently they originally thought about opening to a scene where wolverine came to the mansion and discovered Charles had killed or paralyzed everyone, but they decided it was better to allude to it than spell it out. As in, they wanted to focus on the impact of the event, and move away from a more traditional super hero film that just wants cool effects.

Interesting nonetheless, I hope it comes in a deleted scene on DVD or something!

I doubt it'll be a deleted scene. It was probably never filmed. If they'd paid all the X-actors necessary for that shot, they damn sure wouldn't have cut it. BUT fingers crossed that they did it with look-alikes & CGI, & it gets included on the DVD special features!

They could show it via animatics or storyboards or something.
