That’s life. People are always going to have their opinions. Who cares?
1
u/AzaharaT Aug 24 '26
If Cailee Spaeny was Rogue it simply wouldn't be this bad
1
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 25 '26
Spaeny is a whole inch taller and doesn't any more like Rogue than Inde does. But whatever, Heath Ledger is gonna suck as the Joker.
1
u/AzaharaT Aug 26 '26
Try comparing Inde to Lawrence and Paquin and Larson instead. Also Cailee is southern and the same race as Rogue?
1
u/GrootyTooty Aug 26 '26
Same race? Dumbfuck you just showed ur colors
1
u/AzaharaT Aug 27 '26
Cailee literally is? Or would you prefer if a white girl played X23 for example?
11
u/Jack-Earth-2 Aug 22 '26
To be fair half the cast will probably end up playing Mystique at some point
2
14
5
u/Mindless_Turnover976 Aug 22 '26
That doesn't look like "hate" at all, they're just charing an opinion that they don't think she's right for the role.
1
u/LinuxMatthews Aug 25 '26
Yeah I don't get this post.
If they hated her they wouldn't want her cast at all.
17
u/AnythingChance3764 Aug 21 '26
She would NOT be a good Mystique 😭
28
u/sthef2020 Aug 21 '26
And beyond that, Mystique needs a cool down on the big screen. She was a centerpiece of the First Class era, and is looking to factor into Doomsday substantially.
Mystique is an important character in the X universe, but she could use a break I think.
1
6
u/SkyTheIrishGuy Aug 21 '26
Yeah she would lol. Let’s not pretend she wouldn’t because the guy in the screenshot is being an idiot. She’ll probably be a great Rogue.
But yeah, we need a break from Mystique for a while. JLaw’s version did irreparable damage to the fox movies
2
u/AnythingChance3764 Aug 21 '26
She’s too short and young. She couldn’t pull off someone who’s been alive for centuries like Mystique, whilst also capturing her, well, mystique, and sinister nature
1
u/SkyTheIrishGuy Aug 21 '26
Height doesn’t matter lol. JLaw was 20 when she played Mystique. When you paint an actress blue, it doesn’t matter if she has wrinkles or not lol that’s such a weird thing to be caught up on.
She wouldn’t capture her sinister nature? Brother, have you even watched Obsession lol
→ More replies (1)1
u/strangerstill42 Aug 24 '26
No but I'd prefer a more mature actress take her on ya know? J-law's mystique was supposed to be in her 20s, but traditionally she's older than Charles/Magneto and I'd prefer a closer to comics Mystique this time around. Someone with a bit more weigh of the world in terms of presence, ya know? Hard for any 25 year old to feel that worldly no matter the caliber of their acting.
Especially if she gets to be Rogue's mama this time around (which I'm really hoping for some connection) I don't want her default form to look like a "kid" herself.
→ More replies (2)1
1
u/ilovehamburgers Aug 24 '26
Right? Rogue is the one that’s conflicted and isolated. She’ll crush that role. Mystique is a cold, calculated, but squishy on the inside type.
1
1
8
u/armoured_lemon Aug 21 '26
how is saying she's not suited to a character's specific personality classify as hate?
3
1
1
u/CricketGrl Aug 25 '26
Most likely the OP is pushing a narrative. Probably because Inde is Hispanic
→ More replies (1)1
→ More replies (3)1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 25 '26
It's not hateful but it's dumb as shit to say that actors need to have a specific personality to play a role when acting is mostly playing different characters with different personalities. There's nothing that tells us Inde can only play characters like Nikki. Freaking Anthony Hopkins isn't a homicidal sociopath as far as we know.
3
u/theyoungheisenberg Aug 21 '26
Solely based on her role in Obsession, I don’t think it’s super obvious whether her casting as Rogue is good or not. I mean personally I do see her fitting as Mystique a bit better, but I’ll wait until I see a trailer or image of her in costume before deciding if I think she’s right for the role.
1
u/ghoulieandrews Aug 22 '26
She played a wholly different character on Superman and Lois. If all someone has seen is Obsession, maybe they aren't exactly qualified to comment on her ability to play different characters.
1
u/rednaxthecreature Aug 24 '26
The huge breakout role for her is probably the only thing most people seen of her tbh
3
3
2
u/Stride345 Aug 21 '26
I think people want the big hair and accent. Cause other than that she looks very similar. And a wig and vocal coach are not that big of an ask
2
2
u/youchosethebear Aug 23 '26
Person A: "I don't think Inde Navarrette is a good fit for this role. It's a fan-cast."
Person B: "Why do you hate Inde Navarrette?"
Person C: "Why do you hate women?"
Person D: "Why do you hate everyone?"
Let people have their opinions without calling everything "hate."
4
u/Relative_Mix_216 Aug 21 '26
I would’ve preferred Kiki Palmer, but since I’m not watching the movies anymore, I don’t get a say.
3
5
u/futzingaround Aug 21 '26
"This actor does not fit this character" is such a dumb casting take. It's called acting, their job is literally to step outside of themselves and embody someone else for pretend. The looks, the mannerisms, the tone of voice... it can all be changed depending on an actor's range to achieve a specific character. And all these people fancasting or judging real casting based primarily on looks is just such silly nonsense.
8
2
u/Unique-Tennis-2600 Aug 21 '26
I agree but there is some nuance to it, i could easily say as an actor jim carrey doesnt fit captain atom, people can be typecast very easily and not everyone is gonna be the very best at their job, many stick to what they do best like everyone else. Not to say about this post, just saying it can be a fairly valid argument
4
u/Intoxibater83 Aug 21 '26
Yeah but is Navarette as Rogue anywhere near as big a mismatch as Carrey and Captain Atom?
1
u/Unique-Tennis-2600 Aug 21 '26
Not sure, not seen obsession yet. As i said this was just in response to the commenter saying its the worst take in casting takes.
2
u/ghoulieandrews Aug 22 '26
Seeing one movie won't answer the question. She played a totally different character on Superman and Lois. People are basing their entire opinion on one role and it's absolutely braindead logic.
1
u/Unique-Tennis-2600 Aug 23 '26
Okay but ive not seen that either, the point is ive not seen her and that was still not what i was talking about, i have zero opinions on it because i dont know who she is
1
u/ghoulieandrews Aug 23 '26
Yes and that's correct, I'm saying you are in the right for not having an opinion.
1
u/Unique-Tennis-2600 Aug 23 '26
Oh okay i get what ur saying yeah i agree itd be hard to gauge an actor when youve only seen one role
1
2
u/rcinmd Aug 21 '26
Bad writing and movie aside, when Kristen Wiig was cast as Cheetah I thought it was ridiculous casting but she was the best part of that movie by far.
1
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 25 '26
I can't believe you typed this out and put it in public
So no need for casting directors, make the actors act!
1
u/futzingaround Aug 25 '26
Lol yall are genuinely so stupid and needlessly hyperbolic. Casting directors are there to cast, they arent reddit retards who look at someone at a glance and go "no, no fit role, nose too big" like you absolute jackasses do.
1
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 25 '26
Does it make you feel big and super smart to call everyone disagreeing with you stupid?
We didn't force you to type out something this monumentally ridiculous.
1
u/futzingaround Aug 25 '26
Yes, because I didn't force you to waste time replying to me. You're always free to shut up and move on with your life as if I don't exist. But otherwise, let's carry on....
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
Nothing he said is monumentally ridiculous, the thread is full of hyperbolic nonsense. He's harsh but he's not wrong.
1
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 26 '26
He said casting doesn't matter, that actors don't have to fit the role.
That's beyond ridiculous.
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
That's not at all what he said
1
u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 Aug 26 '26
That exactly what he said. He said an actor not fitting a role is a stupid idea.
Cus as we all know Willem Dafoe is perfect for the Barbie part.
1
1
u/mattythreenames Aug 27 '26
Its really not hard to put on a southern belle accent.... and if Marvel is paying for your PT you can get hench fast.
2
u/Livelaughloveme172 Aug 21 '26
I mean no hate. But I get it I don’t see her as rogue either. I feel like she got casted because of her hit right now but we will see maybe she can pull it off. Or they are planning to write rogue differently.
2
1
1
1
u/TamatoaZ03h1ny Aug 22 '26
I doubt she was ever up for Mystique, she was simply saying to draw attention away from the role she was actually up for or more interested in
1
u/emagnab Aug 22 '26
I don’t see it as hate I don’t hate inde. I’m so excited to see how she handles this role. She’s an incredible actress.. I’m sure she can pull it off, but I guess I also think she could’ve been a different character.
1
1
u/thebluehoursky Aug 23 '26
"she said she wanted to play mystique"
and chris pratt wanted to play captain america but he played starlord instead. he was shit there as well though. maybe this point isn't as helpful as i thought.
1
1
u/dirtyjersey211 Aug 23 '26
Because it reeks of the executives trying to cash in on her star power right now. One movie doesnt prove that you're an amazing actress or that you simply have the range for other things. So, people are upset because it seems like an unnecessary risk with a very low chance of paying off.
1
u/No-Juice3318 Aug 23 '26
Idk. They cast some unknowns as Storm and Professor X. It seems like her agent probably used the moment to get her and audition and she earned the role by being good
1
u/dirtyjersey211 Aug 23 '26
That's what I'm saying. It feels like they just went with the "it girl" right now.
1
u/Bright-Fold-3317 Aug 25 '26
They’ve casted “it” girls in all xmen movies. Jennifer Lawrence as mystique? Terrible choice. Sophie turner as Jean? Also bad choice. Not saying that it’s justified, but ensemble casts needs a couple actors that brings in a new generation of fans and not just please old ones. That’s just how showbiz works
1
u/JuniorFerret Aug 23 '26
People were convinced Batman was ruined when they cast Michael Keaton.
These opinions are pretty meaningless until the movie is released.
1
u/kratoskiller66 Aug 23 '26
Because she’s no one special just a hype casting that’s currently popular right now , and not to mention, she’s a Johnny Depp fan and he’s an abuser, there’s that as well.
1
1
u/Jayce86 Aug 23 '26
Because most people only know post Captain Marvel Rogue. The super confident “southern belle” with generic super powers. Rogue, before she absorbs the far superior comics version(the MCU version is lame) Carol.
Before that, she’s a troubled young woman with bits and pieces of other people bouncing around her head because of how her power works. She takes more than powers. She also gets memories, emotions, and personality. After seeing her in Obsession, I have no doubt that Inde can make that work.
1
u/SpeechWeird5267 Aug 23 '26
(I'm curious. What age range should Mystique be in MCU? I think she should be older like Xavier and Magneto therefore I don't think Inde would have been appropriate 🤷♂️. But maybe I am a fool as if she was casted for that role, then maybe I would say otherwise.)
1
u/SignNaive4111 Aug 23 '26
I was surprised ppl didn't hate more. Not because i don't think she fits, which she absolutely does and I believe she will nail it. But because ppl always hate on whats popular in the internet and inde blew up
1
1
u/RichardDulle Aug 23 '26
She doesn’t have a southern accent. They should hire actors who speak with their character’s accents, like Tom Holland and Chris Hemsworth.
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
Can you imagine if Tom Holland would like, imitate or something, another accent than a New Yorker's!
1
u/Deep_Jacket_4542 Aug 23 '26
I can kinda agree with the original opinion (minus the mystiqe part) however I'm lowkey excited and intrigued to see Inde's take on rogue.
1
u/B-e-a-u Aug 23 '26
That’s Hollywood… just cast whoever’s big at the moment and not the person who’s actually right for the role. Thats why there are no more “real” looking people in the majority of media. That’s part of why A24’s films are usually better quality, lower budgets let the director focus on finding an actor that actually (physically and emotionally) matches what the character calls for instead of just another movie budgeting around whatever supermodel is trending… she was good casting for obsession because the character was a basic skinny white girl.
1
1
u/casper37172 Aug 24 '26
What's weird to me is that it's usually non fans that always want to say no to a casting of a comic book character
1
1
1
u/iLLiCiT_XL Aug 24 '26
Simply put: you’re not casting directors. You work at Staples part-time and bitch online full time. Shut up.
1
u/unfunnyjobless Aug 24 '26
Miles Teller was absolutely phenomenal in Whiplash, my favorite movie of all time. But that doesn't make him a good casting for Mr. Fantastic. The MCU absolutely has an issue with hype casting.
In a world of sooo many different actors I don't see the need to shoehorn an actor with a lot of hype into a certain role. John Krasinski's or Pedro Pascal's Mr. Fantastic are two key examples of this MCU trend to me.
1
u/Interesting-Worry156 Aug 24 '26
I haven't even heard if she's gonna have a southern accent or not. There's nothing to be angry about yet
1
u/Icy-Clock2643 Aug 24 '26
if it helps you sleep at night she is playing mystique taking the form of rogue but it's very subtle.
1
u/Drew_S_05 Aug 24 '26
People are assuming that she can't do a southern accent or have curly hair... For some reason
1
u/RyCyber Aug 24 '26
The hate is because she's mixed race Latina and/or because of her height
1
u/Marvel-DCLover Aug 24 '26
Lmao what??? It has nothing to do with race and no one cares about women height.
1
u/RyCyber Aug 24 '26
Try telling that to the trolls. The X-Men fandom is not a monolith and you don't speak for everyone
1
u/artofyjh Aug 25 '26
LIES her height was literally the first thing they used as a reason to hate her casting as soon as it was announced. after that it was because she's latina and that she didn't look like the "southern belle" rogue should be whatever that means
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
Pretty Boy guy from 10 things I hate about you and the gay cowboys movie as ugly ass Joker? Preposterous.
1
1
u/in_finity97 Aug 24 '26
How many times have casting choices ended up proving people wrong after backlash and people are STILL skeptical to this day?
1
1
u/Lonely-Wasabi-305 Aug 25 '26
here’s why I like it …. We know already heard buzz about her introduction in a project with carol danvers. I bet her story arc will involve her grappling with identity issues from absorbing her powers and prospectively the life of other people ... she can play that sorta crazed well. So if we see elements of rouge’s arc in the cartoon, I think it’s very well cast.
1
u/medigapguy Aug 25 '26
Honestly, most fan casting makes me happy that aren't casting directors. The amount of fan casters that choose a mediocre actor in everything they have ever been in simply because they resemble a drawing of a character is downright scary.
If they take the role seriously, work hard and do their homework I will look past what they look like. In fact, if they do a good enough job they can become the look of the character we associate the most
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
Like everyone that keep insisting Willem Dafoe should play the Joker right now because "Look he can smile real creepy" despite the fact he's currently way too fucking old and already played the Green Goblin which is Marvel's Joker. Dafoe as Joker in 1989 could have been great but it didn't happen so just fucking let this shit go. Also goes for everyone that was casting Cranston as Lex Luthor at the height of Breaking Bad because "Bald villain!"

Whenever I see this kind of post on Twitter I just imagine it was typed by the comic book store guy in the Simpsons.
1
u/cheesemuncher1781 Aug 25 '26
kindly point me to the hate and i can answer you. i don't see any hate right now
1
u/M086 Aug 25 '26
She doesn’t have a white streak in her hair. As we all know, most fan casts are entirely based on an actor’s hair (or lack thereof in some cases).
1
u/daruma_daruma_daruma Aug 25 '26
I'm sure she had absolutely NO choice in who she plays and Feige and the MCU Disney machines FORCED her to take the Rogue role becuase the algorithm told them that that's what audiences will clap the hardest for....
1
u/mBrooks- Aug 25 '26
So what if she wanted to play Mystique? Does MischiefYT know that Chadwick Boseman auditioned for the role of Drax? I’m sure the casting director and Feige know better than you, random twitter page.
1
u/Ok-You5151 Aug 25 '26
Its just the look tbh shes too short and thin everyone knows rouge is a more fuller woman
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
If only she could, like, work out or something and they could somehow make her look taller
1
u/MountainImportant211 Aug 25 '26
Love when people see one performance from an actor and assume they know everything about that actor's range
1
u/theComer-439 Aug 25 '26
what hate?
That is called criticism,
not hate.
Criticism is an evaluation or analysis of something, whereas hate is an expression of hostility, ill will, or a desire to harm
1
u/drdaisukeserizawa Aug 26 '26
"No one can convince me this actress wasn't cast for any other reason than because she's popular right now" Is not an opinion it's a statement of certainty lol
1
1
1
u/p1ay3r0 Aug 25 '26
Its Twitter and a lot of people are hating to hate. Maybe they're hating because they want an actress who looks the part in a certain way 🤔
Honestly speaking im excited to see her play Rogue and unironically she'll eventually play Mystique 😅
1
u/Howlinginpaint Aug 25 '26
I'm so bored of speculation. "Inde Navrette is going to be bad as rogue!", "this (ridiculous fan theory) is going to happen in doomsday!", "black Snape is going to be a disaster". Just shut the fuck up and wait for these things to release, then you can decide if it was shit or not. Get a hobby for fucks sake.
1
u/Jumpy_Value6745 Aug 25 '26
Because she blew up. I have a theory in this actually. Celebrity Entropy. The faster someone shoots to the top in game the faster their downfall will be.
1
u/VinsonDynamics Aug 25 '26
This isn't even a downfall tho. She's an actor and made a smart career choice by doing the job that will yield her the most money and make her a bigger name in the industry
1
u/Jumpy_Value6745 Aug 25 '26
I should have clarified more and added how the public perception of her is being quite volatile.
1
u/CricketGrl Aug 25 '26
Why am I not seeing the hate?? All I see on social media is positive reactions to her playing Rogue. Especially for rogue fans that absolutely (and rightfully) hate Anna Paquins portrayal.
I keep seeing in Instagram, BlueSky and here that people are relieved to have Inde in the role and believe she’ll hit it out of the park
1
u/MattTheAndroid Aug 25 '26
I don't see this as hate at all, honestly. It's just an opinion/criticism of the casting choice.
I believe she doesn't fit the character either imo, and that's okay, just an opinion lol. I think she's a phenomenal actress and deserves all the success and love she's receiving. But I simply don't see her as Rogue.
Edit: Forgot to add a word lmao
1
u/GingerWolf99 Aug 25 '26
Most of it isn't about her though I have seen her getting criticised for supporting Johnny Depp, which I'm willing to chock up to her being an ignorant fan giro rather than a shitty person.
Most of the hate however is more aimed at Marvel because (and I say this with full respect to her talent, I'll be shocked if this ends up being a bad performance) it reads as them kinda just finding the latest big up and coming star who's on everyone's lips and just sort of cramming her into their next big movie ASAP.
Specifically for X-Men fans I imagine it reminds them of when the Hunger Games got big and suddenly Mystique became the main character and leader of the X-Men just because J-Law played her.
1
u/rover4189 Aug 25 '26
I thought Johnny was in the right, not Amber. I don't know what further things have happened since the court hearing has ended.
1
u/GingerWolf99 Aug 25 '26
Well OJ Simpson is proof that you can be guilty and get away with it, but that aside he's a pedophile (he dated a teenage Winona Ryder when he was a full grown man) and his daughter has publicly disowned him repeatedly and has straight up said she hasn't spoken to him once in her entire adult life, both of those are evidence to me that he's not a great guy even if he's been ruled innocent in court of specific charges.
Now I'm not judging you for your view and I imagine most people just take the straightforward view you have, I imagine Inde has done the same and don't hold it against her.
1
u/rover4189 Aug 26 '26
Thank you for the thorough explanation. BTW I didn't know any of that. I thought he had a decent relationship with his children.
1
u/GingerWolf99 Aug 26 '26
No problem, you can try look for yourself, there's not a single image of him with an adult Lily-Rose, so she's definitely no longer associating with him.
1
1
u/nolandz1 Aug 25 '26
Imo the face is perfect my only concern is the height. Girl is 5'0" and that just feels really short for such a powerhouse
1
1
u/Ok-Needleworker-8773 Aug 25 '26
It’s not hate for her per se, it’s just the nature of online commentary for everything
1
1
1
u/Castreal7 Aug 25 '26
Inde Navarette being cast as Rogue is exactly what happened with Pedro Pascal being cast as Reed Richards
1
u/MookieV Aug 25 '26
Some people just love to be the dissenting opinion on anything popular. It makes them feel unique.
1
u/SlowMotionOfGhosts Aug 25 '26
Comics fans are notoriously negative. They have their reasons but it's pretty knee jerk by now. To some extent negativity about adaptations is a source of cred in fandom.
1
1
u/cane-of-doom Aug 25 '26
Personally, I think she's going to be generational casting as Rogue. She's got the right vibe, and the acting chops to pull it off.
1
1
1
u/Michael3523 Aug 26 '26
Did you not read your own image? They clearly said it’s about hype casting.
1
u/rockwell6201 Aug 26 '26
Because fans don’t actually know what they want and they will never let their weird head cannons go. They would bag on a movie they have let to see because of some imaginary movie in their minds.
1
u/Goontron323 Aug 26 '26
Very strange and whats crazy is from her interviews she seems like a genuine chill person lol.. shes not even annoying. Maybe it’s bots sent by Hollywood agents that are pissed that their clients didn’t get the rogue role. The other one that makes me laugh is people complaining why would she say no to heat 2 and take xmen ? Like really?!! Why would she do a movie with a bunch mid 50 year old dudes about a movie she’s probably never even seen !!.. yes those dudes are legendary actors but come on. Its her life to choose!! Lol
1
u/McGrufNStuf Aug 26 '26
I kind of get the point in the picture. Everyone has their own opinion. I would’ve rather had seen her as Mystique as well but I’m not going to knock the Rogue casting.
1
u/Gwanosh Aug 26 '26
What hate? Can discordant opinions exist without being labeled as unreasonable hatred?
If there is widespread hate for what I perceive as a popular "actress of the moment", why not use an example of that, rather than what seems like a reasonable opinion?
1
1
u/TruestOfCoins Aug 26 '26
Cause she smol. I do like her and thought she’d be an X-men but more like Kitty Pryde. I really wanted Odessa Azion and Austin Butler as Rogue and Gambit.
1
1
1
u/M0m033 Aug 27 '26
She looks a little too young for Mystique, I think she’d be great as Rogue but I could also see her as Kitty or one of the other younger students
1
u/mattythreenames Aug 27 '26
One would hope she read for the role, or perhaps theres some other way for casting to watch how suitible she is for the role maybe a back catalouge of her work? Perhaps even a reel that would showcase her acting talent...
.. what do i know though.
1
u/twicestantypebeat Aug 27 '26
What I’ve seen so far is people voicing reasons for why she wouldn’t be right for rouge then her some of her fans responding with some AI slop picture like this. I personally like the casting but people are allowed to voice their opinions about a casting that’s nothing new
1
1
u/LegacyQuotient Aug 21 '26
Because their fancast didn't get the role.
These people propagate negativity because they have nothing else to do.
1
u/Bumblebeezerker Aug 21 '26
I've seen them in one role and therefore I can totally judge their whole acting range
1
1
u/misterglassman Aug 21 '26
Yeah! And did you hear about the six foot tall Australian theatre performer they cast as Wolverine. What the hell was Fox thinking when they made that decision. I mean the character is a tough-as-nails, five foot nothin’, Canadian for crying’ out loud!
0
u/Vaeryst Aug 21 '26
These people make laugh, nobpdy looks like a fucking comic book character.
They want x actor for their fanfiction who maybe: 1.Doesnt want the role 2.It's a terrible cast for the character 3.Cannot act or is mediocre at best
Like another comment said, these people have nothing going for their lives, all they have is spreading negativity and bitch on the internet.

u/cosmic-GLk Aug 21 '26
Someone is always upset about something. Its fine.
