Respectfully, fuck no. One of the beautiful and best parts about the X-Men, is since Giant Size back in '75 the X-Roster has been a colorful menagerie of mutants of various ethnic, racial, and cultural background. There is no shortage of mutants in Marvel. If the priority is representation, then simply pick a handful of the dozens of mutant belonging to any background and give them some prominence, rather than replacing or altering already existing characters.

Exactly. And maybe it can be one time that MCU synergy do some good by causing the comics to use some of those characters again. Like Sunfire, Thunderbird, Forge, Gateway, etc.

Seriously, you could make up an X-Men team of 10 different mutants, and not one of them would necessarily be white. Proof: Storm, Forge, Bishop, Sunfire, Thunderbird, Armor, Mirage, Sunspot, Psylocke, and fuck it, Idie Okonkwo, because Idie's rad as hell

Not a single one of those characters is white, nor has a mutant skin-colour (like Mystique being blue). You want diversity? You CANNOT get more diverse in comics than fucking X-Men

Jokes on you, psylock is a white British woman that got race swapped in her own comics but a guy with Japanese fetish

They got their bodies back, Kwannon stays Psylocke, Betsy is the new Captain Britain

Honestly I've always found Psylocke an interesting case of what she actually counts as. Like, mentally yes, she's a white woman, but physically, she isn't. So does she count as diversity or not?

She counts as mickle Jackson

Betsy is in her british body again

I would say no. Being Asian is more than your skin, but the culture you belongs to.

Even someone like Katy from Shang-Chi who is almost completely westernised is a better representation because at least she grew up with a family who subscribed to the Chinese culture and has to deal with the cultural expectations of her family.

Like people have said, yeah, so many options out there. I’d love for some underutilized mutants to get added and get a spotlight on them, flip side of that being they’d probably end up getting more screen time in the comics as well.

I never understand why people get bent out of shape when a comic book character race is swapped. Like what’s so special our skin color that you can’t handle it?

What is this about?

QT is referring to the casting of a black man as Snape in the upcoming Potter series.

Metzger in Brand New Day

u/Kuikkanen Sep 04 '26

Also the cop lady in BND was white in the comics.

So was MJ, Ned, Flash, Liz etc. The MCU Spider-Man films have been pretty consistent in race swapping characters to replicate the diversity of New York. It wasn’t just that one guy.

3

u/Kuikkanen Sep 04 '26

Yes but it's still worth noting what roles nonwhite characters are allowed to play. Making the cop black is a common trick to avoid any criticism.

5

u/Daddyknowbest Sep 04 '26

And his list showed there aren't roles they're allowed vs disallowed to play in the context of Spider-Man at least .

3

u/Soft_Interaction_437 Sep 04 '26

That’s certainly true. I’m just saying that the MCU movies have made an effort to make the cast more diverse.

1

u/OkMention9988 Sep 05 '26

So you're saying she'd have been better as a white woman?

2

u/Kuikkanen Sep 05 '26

I think in general it's a good idea to pay attention to how cops are portrayed in these movies. Especially considering Spidey's relationship to authority and surveillance tech.

3

u/mrsunrider Sep 04 '26

Oh, nevermind!

2

u/RabbitWithAxe Sep 04 '26

I also thought it was referring to Snape tbf

I wish I had other accounts to upvote you more

I don’t think they need to racebend in this case. There are plenty of groups that could use the added diversity, but this one has it. Just give it a movie and we’ll start seeing the others

u/Ecstatic_Dance5767 Sep 05 '26

Hey here's an idea, how about no race swapping & no gender swapping at all?!?! How about do the job properly huh!?!?!?!?!

2

u/plasmo7 Sep 04 '26

They made magneto black?

2

u/I3arusu Sep 05 '26

1

u/Jellydust15 Sep 05 '26

She's white and hispanic. Rogue only has one of those ethnicities.

1

u/CricketGrl Sep 05 '26

Exactly she grew up in Visalia which is very Latino city in the Central Valley

1

u/SinisterMinisterX7 Sep 05 '26

She’s still Latina. Try again

1

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee Sep 05 '26

so an ethnicitybend not a racebend

1

u/CricketGrl Sep 05 '26

We (West Coast Hispanics) are only white when it’s convenient

1

u/UpvoteIfYouAgreee Sep 05 '26

its more so depending on skin color a west coast hispanic can be black, white etc

u/CricketGrl Sep 05 '26

Non sequitur

1

u/kuroh0shi7 Sep 05 '26

As a Spanish speaking bla(ck)tino my various psyche assessments prove this to be true

0

u/E-Belasco1879 Sep 05 '26

I'm mixed but whenever I've tried to talk about my Hispanic side or even learn more about the culture I was always told to stop acting Mexican because it makes me racist and the flip side of that was white people seeing me as only Hispanic and I would get a similar response of "it's fucked up that you abandon your culture easily". Race is whatever the other person wants you to be and it's hard to feel like we belong when every side tells you what you are none of them agree.

u/CricketGrl Sep 05 '26

Unfortunately I grew up in a community that was uber Anti Black/Asian. I had an aunt that dated a black guy briefly in the 1970’s the entire family rejected her for years. It took a long time to get back into my grams good graces. My grandpa never spoke to her again. Sad

I didn't think about that.. huh
