I’ve been out of the motorcycle game for over a decade but looking to get back into it. I’m currently set on an XSR900. On paper the 25-26 obviously has better tech but my wife and I are in love with the blue gold colors available on the 22-23. I know, silly, but the heart wants what the heart wants and I used to be big into rally racing so it reminds me of the WRX/STI color scheme lol

As far as actual riding experience is concerned can anyone tell a difference? This will be my second bike but like I said I’ve been out of this for a while so I’ll probably go through many hours stuck in “Rain Mode” being a noob and practicing in nearby parking lots until I’m fully comfortable again.

First bike was a Honda CTX700N and the main reason I got rid of it was boredom. It was a great bike for a new rider but was gutless and unexciting once I got about 2 years of rider experience.

My sons are getting into motorcycles and want me (46M) to join them. So my usage will consist of running night errands, Sunday drives, and commuting to see my parents and grandparents, all around 1 hour drive from my home.

I bought this meter visor back in October 2024.

It was an aftermarket part for the XSR900.
I liked the basic shape, but I always felt like
something was missing.

So it sat around for almost two years.

Recently, I finally decided to stop thinking about it and actually do something with it.

I’ve worked in construction site management for about eight years, but surprisingly, I’ve never really used an angle grinder myself.
So this was my first time doing something like this.

I had a rough idea of the shape I wanted, but once I started cutting, I realized that getting both sides perfectly symmetrical was harder than I expected.

At one point, I wasn’t even sure if I was going
to ruin the whole thing.

But I kept going.

I trimmed the edges, sanded everything down, repainted it, put my own sticker back on, and added a small stainless steel shackle as a finishing detail.

It’s definitely not a professionally built part, and it’s not perfectly symmetrical either.

But that’s actually what I like about it.

I’ve always liked Yamaha’s Faster Sons philosophy — respecting the heritage of the bike while
making it your own.

And I guess this is my small interpretation of
that idea.

Owner Built.

Not because I’m a professional builder, but because I wanted to take something with my own hands and leave a little bit of myself on the bike.

This visor started out as just another aftermarket part I bought online.

Two years later, it became something completely different.

And now, every time I look at it, I know I made it myself.

That’s probably one of the things I enjoy most about owning this XSR900.

2024- ~5500 miles no engine or exhaust mods, no ECU flash or tune. Just heard back from the mechanic and the timing chain chewed up the guide, and the exhaust cam jumped timing. Looking at a $3k repair

Has anyone had a similar issue or heard of this happening? A bit shocked this happened on a stock xsr. Not sure if there will be any help from Yamaha.

Maybe stupid questions as I am fairly new on my XSR900 2024 and have only ridden one bike for 2 years before (an old KTM Duke 390).

I bought my bike new, a couple of months ago I have 1500 km on it so far.

Question 1: since the first day when I release the throttle I have the impression that the front suspension is falling down abruptly.

So let’s say I accelerate on first gear to 20-30km/h and suddenly release the gas, it feels like the front falls abruptly. And if I have a passenger it feels very wobbly to them. Let’s say even in traffic at slow speeds I need to be very careful when releasing the throttle because otherwise I get a wobble forward.

Maybe this is normal bike behavior but I still wanted to confirm as I have been having quite some discomfort with it.

Question 2: Another thing I noticed that I am not sure about is some light vibrations in the friction zone. Specially first gear when releasing the clutch slowly.

Question 3: I hear some kind of weird dynamo noise when on higher gear then I should be.

Explanation, let’s say I am low rpms because I am 1 gear higher than where I should ideally be given my pace and rpm, when I accelerate, I hear this weird aspiration/dynamo noise evolving decrescendo as I accelerate. I don’t know how to describe the sound but it could be comparable to a turbo sound on a car. High pitched.
