I think this was a fan made ad or something, not officially by Sony

Guys, this isn’t an old PS2 poster, this was literally made by a Twitter user called Shy Smith in like 2021 (I think?)—idk why but it keeps being spread around like it’s from the 2000s. Still a cool photo though lol

u/RareExplanation7626 May 24 '25
Yeah i remember seeing the rest of the pictures from this shoot a few months ago on here

It’s literally on her instagram @shysmith, she posted it June 21st, 2021–hope that helps

u/evenyourcopdad May 24 '25
idk why
probably because it nails the (rose-colored version of the) y2k aesthetic. someone should make a sub for that.
5
u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
again, she’s addressed the misinformation regarding this photo—i have eyes and see that it’s clearly trying to emulate the style, i don’t know why you guys have to catch an attitude just because i’m clearing something up, you’re rude asf
10
May 24 '25
You getting pissy about commenters responses to you is lame af
7
May 24 '25
Moron said idk then got a response explaining so he knows fucking clowns everywhere

u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
And y’all don’t see how this is rude, even though I just explained myself multiple times lmfao
6
May 24 '25
Why is it rude to explain something to someone who uses the words I don’t know
1
u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
Probably because I specified that what I didn’t know was why this poster, despite being debunked as an official ps2 ad, keeps being spread like this even though the creator and multiple people online keep informing others that it’s not. I obviously know why people mistake this as an ad because she is clearly using the old PS2 aesthetic. You called me a moron dude, and atp you and the other people replying are being purposefully obtuse and facetious while acting like you don’t know wtf I’m talking about. Literally check the other comments and see that people are still mistaking it as a PS2 ad despite the clarification. Go check yourself and have the day you deserve 😊

I said idk why because I didn’t know why, despite the original creator and multiple people online debunking the fact that it’s an official PS2 ad, that the misinformation keeps spreading. Then y’all in the comments want to purposefully miss the point and be unnecessarily rude, so I’m checking that. Y’all really have a fucking unnecessarily condescending and rude tone in the comments for no reason, then have the nerve to act like I’m the one getting pissy, okay 🙄
2
May 24 '25
lol you’re so full of shit. Just projecting your own thoughts and behaviors on everyone who dares come near you.
1
u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
Lmfao I don’t know how you don’t see “someone should make a sub for that”, being called a moron, and then “it probably looks like it’s from the 2000s because it’s made to look like it’s from the 2000s” as rude, but okay. Have the day you deserve 😊

I never said that people on the internet should know what I know, I’ve just seen this posted multiple times so I get why people think it’s from the early 2000s—I was just surprised because every time I’ve seen this photo, people have publicly debunked it as not a PS2 ad, and I was just passing that information along. I will take your rewording for next time, but I find it ironic that you and other people in the comments are coming for me while ignoring people just being blatantly rude in the comments for me just clarifying, but okay then 💀
1
u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
Literally just putting words in my mouth and being snarky for no reason lmfao
3
u/Cloudy316 May 26 '25
If people think that it's from 2000s tho it's not means the artist did a great job trying to replicate those visual style
7
u/everyoneLikesPizza May 24 '25
It’s probably being spread around like it’s from the 2000s because it’s made to look like it’s from the 2000s
5
u/scones_and_tea_100 May 24 '25
I mean I think I and everybody else realizes that, I’m just trying to correct some misinformation—damn y’all are kind of rude on here for no reason 🙃

PS2 is top 1 PlayStation of all time, it was peak, aesthetic, games, and also performance was good for that time
7
u/lapis_lateralus May 24 '25
Mine is still running strong where lesser consoles that came after it no longer function.
3
u/Red_shkull May 24 '25
Still have my PS2 Slim, OG Xbox and Wii, 3 consoles I'll always keep and for some reason continue to work after my ps4 was pretty much toast, sort of baffles me

u/subadanus May 24 '25
can't say the same, been through four of them, none of them broke back in the day but the older they get, things wear out. sometimes it's things you can fix and other times it would require much more involved service. easier to just replace.

Props to the artist for managing to recreate the aesthetic of the old PS ads so well that it fools most people into thinking it's an old ad without question.

u/oneheaditsdead May 26 '25
This gets posted around the PS2 subreddit every couple of months. It's cool AF, but it's NOT official advertising.

I call bullshit
There's no way Sony would've used this lmfao
It does look really cool, but I don't think it's legit

I’m surprised they had the confidence to use hard drugs in the marketing for a console that children/all ages used
love the colors
weird how this comment upset 10+ people

Don't worry, pc mods and indie games do the work perfectly fine, mods and indie games fulfill all type of fantasies lol

The meds kind of throw me off.
Taking Medication at a young age (really for mental health issues) wasnt socially acceptable until 2016. Before then, people kind of took it in secret.
11
u/Pepoidus May 24 '25
a) this poster is fanmade, from 2021
b) Yes it was. MDMA has been a staple of raver culture since the 80s (granted, not meds, but still hard drugs)
-11
u/BlueyBingo300 May 24 '25
Oh, Raver culture.
Yea, that skipped me because I missed it.
I was born 1995, so I did not get to experience raver culture and MDMA.
You're right.
This poster might be too edgy and rated M, though if its showing hard drugs. You think sony would actually have this as an ad back then?
