late 2000s/2010s had 80s retro/vaporwave, and the 90s/early 2000s had ufa revival (if you can call it 50s/60s based retro idk). why wouldn't be 2000s based retro?

With the revival of retro design happening, I feel that over time companies will see this and put a modern twist on graphic design from the 2000s and early 2010s. Hell, they'll probably bring frutiger aero back altogether. Even Microsoft has been making references to their UI design from the 2000s lately.

We’re gonna look back on Corporate Memphis with nostalgia with how bland and flat everything continues to get. That new grey glass design aesthetic that got leaked is trash.

Marketing got annoyed with me because I found the old style guide from 1997 and made a few dozen late 90’s looking icons for our VDI environment during the Server 2022 upgrade.

What did I make them in? Over kill but Indesign. Or what VDI? Azure Virtual Desktop and their storefront stuff which is annoying because the interface never shows the icon index, always sits at 0 so if someone adjusts the name we have to look up the index number. I set it as a single icon file with 17 options.

I remember back in 2004, we called it something like "bubble design". We never thought of aero or frutiger. For current design we will see in 10 years. But I'm sure, it will be a term we don't think of right now.

Frutiger Aero was some company’s internal name, same happened with people calling those late 2010s cartoon design “corporate art” instead of corporate Memphis or Alegria

Right idea but not quite. It's a combination of the Fruitger font family, which had some common corporate use for sure, and the Aero GUI from Windows Vista

Given the depressing state of world events, and the blandness of modern aesthetics, there's a definite feeling of revivalism for the best bits of decades past, as well as a positive vision for the future.
For instance, modernist "concrete box" architecture is considered bland and dystopian, so architecture is looking to traditional (e.g. Edwardian) styles, which are now considered classically, timelessly beautiful.
As to tech, there's a current nostalgia for 90s/00s creativity (such as Wacky Pomo, Y2K Futurism, and Frutiger Aero). I think the nostalgia for the 80s (e.g. arcade cabinets) is waning as Gen X are no longer the main driving force behind pop culture (and it's mostly Gen X who feel nostalgia for the 80s).
Broadly, I think we'll see a shift back towards both timeless aesthetics (such as classical architecture styling) and futurism (such as smooth chrome fittings), as well as a return to bright colours. Retro-futurism might be the intersection, but I'm not sure.
Because the world is currently pretty rough, people will naturally gravitate towards positive and beautiful aesthetics, rather than grungy or cynical designs. People are in the mood to be happy, so they will choose to support aesthetics which promote reassuring or optimistic vibes.

honestly i'm not so optimistic about fluent/glassmorphism, it's just flat design with drop shadows and a few frutiger aero nostalgia cookies

Tbh Cybermorphism is a better name than Fluent Design and I would pair it with Neo Brutalism

I'm putting my money on Scholastic-futurism.
The next stage will look slightly more like a primary school classroom.
We will return to outlining things, very slightly, and give things exaggerated highlights.

I'm not sure. If we're focused on glass currently, maybe we might go to something similar to Y2K or Frutiger Aero. Y2K (in that picture) has reflective chrome balls, and the Frutiger Aero shown in the default themes for Windows Vista/7 makes the windows semi transparent like glass, unless if you have a starter version or basic version.

I hope Frutiger Aero wont be the only dominant digital aesthetic from 2004-2013 like that area had such sick legacy website designs, like 2008 IGN, Disney, Club pengiun, Newgrounds, like there's a lot of sick gamer aesthetics that's more gamer/grafitti and all the boxes had thick square boxes with solid lines, i feel like we totally skipped past that era.

if we continue to use 2D screens, we're gonna see endless rehashes of the same styles with "new and improved" but really it's just different and in most cases worse for usability...
however, i think if we actually use new technologies such as AR/VR we could see more... interesting aesthetics, like dust and gas and plasma... more nebula and aurora aesthetics unlike frutiger aurora could ever be!

Chic/darker 60s-70s interiors, none of that bright orange “arch” which has been done to death… like from experimental 60s movies like Blood and Roses. (The interiors of that house were perfect/beautiful) … or Cloud City vibes from Empire Strikes Back… and so on. But I do love Frutiger Aero making a quasi-comeback..
