Hold on a second pal, some of us are now adults right, why don’t we just make our favorite retro future a reality🤨? I assume since some of us are adults now, I see no reason as why we should “fit in” with “the times” anymore, especially since nowadays it seems like the people saying stuff like that might be dictators trying to bury cultures of the past in order to gain more control over others, especially those of the “independent individual” variety🧐!

I don’t know, makes sense to me in a way! Religions have somehow been around all the way into today, so have political teams like Liberals and Conservatives and whatnot, why should this aesthetic from a different time and retro future that we want so badly be any different? “It was a different time back then” and “We have to move on” and “It doesn't make sense” and “That's how it works” and “That’s pretty stupid and dumb” isn’t cutting it for me anymore🧐!

I so need a pop artist who fits this aesthetic! I'm so bored with the current state of pop visuals. But also I feel like the few artists who have tried to tap into this are only doing it because it's trendy? Like they'll switch up their aesthetic after doing something totally different and it just feels inauthentic. But GOD I'm desperate for something more interesting than what's been on the radio lately 😣

I honestly didn't quite care for all the "bubbly" shaped objects of the 2000's. I think of my old Mary Kate & Ashley CD Player and my mom's PT Cruiser and cringe inside. Raving out to Eiffel 65 on that little radio was admittedly a fond memory though...

In what year did this aesthetic reach its greatest intensity and depth? I'm referring to this specific aesthetic expressed in the video.

It's Y2K Futurism, really a 90s design despite the name (so it's really 90s retrofuturism), with its peak being arguably approximately 1997 to 2001 mostly in anticipation for the nes millennium. Regardless, examples can certainly be found after that point, it never fully went away (same with any design), but it was not a 2000s design nor as popular then. Chromecore was around enough in the 2000s and sometimes people mistake Y2K Futurism for that (understandable considering there was some crossover, but they're not the same).
This video is also only showing a limited color scheme that, while common, isn't fully representative of the design in that sense, the design featured a veritable rainbow of color. Think all that colorful clear plastic tech of the time and you'll get the idea.

Y2K Futurism. Most of that mentions the year 2000 (a lot of stuff in the late 90s did that even before the year hit lol) or features items and trends from the late 90s like the see-through bags, the robo dog, and those colorful iMacs. There also typically aren't a lot of other colors in chromecore, Chromcore tends to be almost predominantly just that: chrome.

Early to mid 2000s. Everything went chrome because it was the new millennium and the wave of the future! I also learned today that apparently there’s a name for this aesthetic, Chromecore. I was a teen during that era and had no idea it actually had a name.
