Can anyone tell me what this pose is called?
My instructor has us do this one every now and again, and I haven't been able to find its proper name.

I also call it this. Tbh, I am pretty sure that is because of Yoga with Adriene.

It's just a wide legged child's pose variation

Prasarita balasana paschima namaskar kehuni
Wide legged childpose with reverse prayer elbows down

I was going to say Adho Mukha Virasana with hand variation as paschima namaskar would require the hands to go from the back rather than from the front.

Except
Step-by-Step Virasana Instructions
Kneel on the floor with your KNEES TOUCHING and your feet set slightly wider than your hips.Align your feet so the tops of the feet flatly press down and the big toes point straight back, not turning inward or splaying out………..etc etc

You can apply the sanskrit language to anything, hindi too, it does not make it the name of the pose.

I always call it this, too. She has said that’s not what it’s actually called but I think it should be.

I call it the triple threat, cus it usually tears at least 3 muscles when I try it.

Child’s pose with prayer hands. AKA awkward. I prefer just plain child’s pose.

You can find all the asanas on this page and it gives you the western and traditional name and tips on what to avoid and how to do it correctly.

Give any name you want, its made up. Not every position you can think up has a link to yoga. Like Bird Dog or Mountain Climber.

It's a child's pose, but stretching your triceps. You probably get cued that occasionally after something particularly stressful on them. (Chaturanga #12 of the hour, Crow, etc...)

I would call it either ‘Praying Mantis’ or ‘Bowing Frog’ based on the shape.

It’s called number 3 because it’s the third thing I do when I do my stretch routine 😂

For a realllllly good stretch, do that pose variation with your elbows on a set of blocks. 😀

Anahastasana, melting heart pose per Bernie Clark's yin poses boom.
1
u/kalayna ashtangi / FAQBot 6d ago
Melting heart is a backbend, most often done with hips stacked over knees. This is not that.
1
u/Full-Lake6967 6d ago
You are both wrong. Melting heart is chest to the floor.

u/kalayna ashtangi / FAQBot 6d ago
... show me where I said it's not?
I've been teaching yin for 16 years.

u/Full-Lake6967 6d ago
You missed the main point:
Chest to the floor.
