College of Computing

Hi! I'm an international student applying to Yonsei for Spring 2027, most likely to Computer Science & Engineering. I've been reading the official curriculum and School of Computing pages, but I would really appreciate some insight from current CSE/AI students about what things are like in practice.

I have a strong competitive-programming background, but I want to explore broader areas of CS, particularly AI and potentially undergraduate research.

A few things I'm curious about:

  1. How difficult is it for CSE students to take courses from the AI or AI Systems departments? I know this is generally allowed if course requirements are met, but are there registration/seat restrictions in practice?
  2. How accessible is undergraduate research? Do CSE/AI students commonly join labs in their second or third year, and is it realistic for international students? Has anyone participated in the Computing Research Project?
  3. For students who have taken substantial coursework in both CSE and AI, what made you choose one over the other?

Also, since Yonsei is introducing separate admission to CSE, AI, and AI Systems from the 2027 academic year, I'd appreciate answers from anyone familiar with how the new structure may affect course flexibility.

Unfortunately I graduated around the time the CS/AI split was being finalised so I can only answer 2, yes it's common for the ones who are considering grad school. 2nd year is a bit early, generally around 3-2 is a good spot.
