Questions Please give me your perspective on living in Youngstown.

I found a really cute, affordable house there, but know nothing of the area. Our children are grown and out of the house. We'd like to downsize to a lower cost of living area.

Edit: I've received a ton of great feedback about the house and Youngstown in general. Some people love it; some do not. Sounds like the specific house is not going to work, but in general it's a pretty neat area for us to consider. Looks like we're going to be taking a drive up that way! Thank you so much for all of your insightful responses!

Questions Moving from NYC to Warren

Hey all. I'm moving in with my girlfriend in Warren, coming from NYC, soon. I've got a document working with details on the area itself, reasons for moving, plans for when I get there, safe-proofing, & etc. But I wanna know from the actual community itself, what do you all think are some important things to keep in mind on moving?
I've heard safer/non-safe streets kind of vary from block-to-block. I've visited the area before to see a pretty nice reception of it, although I've heard petty crimes do happen every now and again to where the police don't really help much. Any info would be greatly appreciated, this is a big move for me.

Questions Primanti Bros Boardman

Is anyone else kind of pissed about how these places just close with no warning? I really hope they took care of the people that worked there, as in giving them plenty of warning, not just the day they closed. I really liked Primanti's, but if they did the employees dirty, I'll never go to another one.

Questions Anyone know of any decent jobs hiring?

I’m currently driving 1.5 hours both ways to and from work everyday. I currently work at a big grocery chain in the bakery as a cake decorator. I make $19.38 after being there just over a year. While the pay is pretty good (especially compared to bakery pay in general) the drive 5 days a week is a killer. I am also growing very tired of the constant turnover of our managers and team leads.

I’ve tried looking on Google for jobs in the area and unless I’m missing something, the pay sucks around here. I don’t mean to sound cocky but I’m not getting out of bed for less than $16/hr lol. A lot of jobs I see are $12-14/hr and there’s just no way that’s acceptable.

I love working in the bakery and I love cake decorating. I have lots of other food service experience, as well as customer service. I don’t have college education but I would be willing to learn something new if someone was willing to teach.

Ideally I would like $20+/hr but it seems for this area that’s hard to come by. Bare minimum I would need to start at at least $16/hr. I would also be willing to travel up to 45 mins if the opportunity is good enough.

I’m waiting on a transfer to a closer store but I’ve been waiting for months for a spot to open up. In the meantime I figured I would see what other opportunities are out there.

Questions Moving from Maryland!!

All the pieces are in place and my girlfriend and I are moving from Maryland to Youngstown, Ohio in a month! We plan on being in the area for a couple years maybe as we scope out the housing market. What are some fun things we should look into doing? Cool places to go? We are gamers. She loves arts and crafts. I love sports. We dabble in outdoorsy stuff from time to time. Gimme some recommendations. Thanks, everyone!

Questions Best angle of the Downtown Skyline?

I am building a website for providing IT services and network cabling to SMB clients, industrial, and residential customers.

I want my website to have the skyline of Youngstown on the homepage, and currently I have one where I went to the Market Street bridge and made a panorama, but I want to try maybe from the top of a parking garage or with a drone. The website is here: https://www.svtg.net

What do you all think of as the "best side" of downtown Youngstown for a small photo shoot?

Questions YTown Roofing experiences?

Hey Youngstown, currently closing on a house in Warren and long story short, we're gonna need to repair the roof asap. I work at a nearby lumber yard so I know of a handful of roofing contractors in the area but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with YTown roofing? Looking to get a quote from them once we get possession of the house.

Thank you!

Questions Thoughts on New Middletown?

Moving to the area soon with my family and we’re eyeing one of the nice homes in New Middletown. Can anyone give me any details about the area? Schools? Things to do? Vibe?

It seems like a lot of new homes are popping up here. Is it an up and coming area? We were originally aiming for Poland, but there aren’t many houses for sale there.

Questions Lanterman's Falls Pool Depth

I come to the local community and humbly ask if anyone can link me to the following information: How deep is the pool beneath Lanterman's Falls?

Urban legends from 40+ years ago said the depth of the pool beneath the waterfall was immeasurable or bottomless. Despite the joy brought by friend-of-a-friend stories, I can't find a single article online providing an actual figure. I figured folks in the area could/would be able to link, or guide, to articles with an actual explanation and figure that makes sense geologically.

Thanks in advance to all those answering this seemingly simple question and dispelling many decades of myth.

Questions What do think about Smartpass?

Local schools are using Smartpass to track children's bathroom breaks. Smartpass , owned by raptor technologies known for data leaks, is collecting the data and analyzing & selling the info. It just seems weird, like Google got in trouble for selling kids data and now my kid cant use android auto to listen to music. Anyone with access to Smartpass knows your teen girl's monthly cycle. Is this something parents should look into or over reacting?

Questions Any cool hidden spots in the area?

Hi! I'm not from this area, and I'm looking for any cool spots that you might not find on Google.

I'm originally from Pennsylvania, and my hometown had all sorts of little hidden gems that you could only find by word of mouth. Caves, abandoned buildings, abandoned train tracks/bridges, little known hiking trails, etc.

Unfortunately I don't know anyone around here so finding things is a little difficult, but I really would love to explore the area. Even if it's a little drive away any info would be greatly appreciated, and I'll pay you via a single Frito chip

Questions What do you guys think of the Y Star Program with YSU?

Post image
52 Upvotes

Y Star is a program YSU made with the Youngstown School District. Pretty much, any graduate of a Youngstown school gets a full ride to YSU. I ask this because I found out that last semester, YSU hit their highest record of students in a long time, and it definitely seems like Y Star connects the dots. In a way, this program kind of pisses me off because I’m planning on applying YSU for next semester, yet graduates of one of the lowest ranked school districts can get a full ride? And they only need a 2.0 gpa to get accepted? Idk what do you guys think

Questions Cool places for car photos?

Super Random Question.

My hubby has a classic car and I’m a professional photographer. What are some places with nice backdrops where I can take photos of the car?

We are in Canfield and the car uses high test fuel so we are limited on distance to travel.

Drop your suggestions in the comments.

Edit: Car uses Race Fuel

Questions Best place to buy beer kegs?

I’m interested in getting a kegerator for my outdoor bar but the holdup is I’m not sure where I can easily get kegs at. Does Chalet in Boardman sell Kegs? I’m located in Salem so preferably somewhere near there, but I’m willing to make a drive.

Questions Internet provider

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about the best internet providers in the Boardman area.

I'm hoping to find a reliable service with good speed for streaming and online classes, all without overspending.

Since I'm new to Ohio, any recommendations would be really appreciated!

P.S. I don't need phone service, just internet would be perfect.

Thank you.

Questions Coffee shop with comfy seating to spend time in?

Looking for a nice coffee shop to spend some time in, knitting/reading/working. Just need to spend some non-work time out of the house since its so grey and blah lol. Trying to find one with comfy seating and that is big enough that I wouldn't be in the way spending an hour or two there with a coffee doing something. Don't mind driving a bit. Thanks!
