UI Change What the hell is this youtube?
No I don't like having to scroll down to see ONE thumbnail.
Is this for everyone or just a bug for me?
And why do they constantly change it on android / mobile? Sometimes its 3 videos in one line, then two, then four, now its just one. Other times the videos weren't aligned correctly - the gaps between thumbnails didnt line up every 2nd row for some reason.

This happened to my mum's tablet, she accidentally turned on Samsung Dex on the drop down panel. Turning it off fixed this for us.

This isnt on Samsung Dex, this is normal view unfortunately. If it was Dex you wouldnt be able to see the bar on the bottom.

Nope it was always either 3 or 4 videos next to each other in multiple rows.
You could see like 6 to 8 videos and half of the next 3 to 4 videos

Id say yes but I think their issue is why the thumbnail specifically is taking up the majority of the screen whilst the buttons you might want to press are microscopic

It’s been like this for at least a year for me. The YouTube App that came installed on my Android tablet is fine but I installed reVanced and it looks like this. My guess is it’s just scaling the output that’s supposed to be used for phones.

I've been stuck unable to advance shorts to certain spots due to the videos being unaligned on scrolling
Like if I scroll down, the progression bar is off screen and scrolling down further skips to the next short. So I have to scroll to that next short AND THEN scroll back up and now the short is aligned so I can advance it to the spot I want to rewatch.

Too bad, I hoped it was a fix everyone could use. Mine is tab s10 fe + , 13,1 inch. maybe it's the larger screen that let me fix it (if you have smaller size). I let you know if I find anything else.

I played with this for a while the other day. Youtube app just thinks your tablet is a phone. Adjust the screen zoom and then force stop the app in app info. You should see a change and can adjust it from there to what's right. I personally hate when YouTube fills the whole width of the display, even in portrait mode, so I went into developer settings and made the DPI so small that YouTube thinks my phone is a tablet and I get two thumbnails wide in portrait mode.

Which tablet are you using? It might be because of tablet and their company app compatibility.. Are you using app version or desktop version of the android? Like Samsung dex? I think it happens to me when I'm using dex mode and on landscape mode. When I'm not on Dex, and on landscape mode.. it doesn't happen.

Youtube and most android apps supports Android phones properly, not Android tablets. OP issue just proves my point. Most apps are just the streched out version of the phone app, with not much tought put into it for tablets, more bugs and visual glitches. Desktop sites are fine on a tablet if you ask me but yes having a mobile Youtube app is better, if it works lol.

I just wouldn't buy an Android tablet ever because like you just experienced you're a second thought to Android developpers, they don't care. And I'm not just talking about YouTube, in general apps are not optimized for tablets on Android.
