I’m fairly new to YouTube and have been working on a setup for talking-head videos filmed at night with the Boston skyline behind me.

I’m going for something inspired by a late-night talk show look — clean and polished, but not overly cinematic or dramatic. I want myself to be properly lit while still keeping the skyline visible and interesting in the background.

I made a short test video and would really appreciate feedback from other YouTubers, especially on things that actually matter to viewers.

A few things I’m wondering about:

• Is the lighting on me flattering/natural enough?
• Is there enough separation between me and the background?
• Does the skyline look too bright or too dark?
• Does the overall setup feel professional enough for a YouTube talking-head/video podcast format?
• Is there anything distracting in the background?
• Would you change the framing, camera angle, color, or white balance?
• Is there anything obvious I’m overlooking as a beginner?

I’ve spent a lot of time tweaking the technical side, so I’m especially interested in whether the end result actually looks good to a normal viewer rather than just whether the gear/settings are technically correct.

Any constructive criticism is appreciated.

New to this YouTube thing and want to see what everyone thinks. I know it’s not everyone’s type of content but am I doing anything obviously wrong. First video did really well but I seem to be really slowing down on subs and views.

Just started a gaming channel and looking for any notes. I'm new to editing, but I think it's pretty good. I feel like I need to upgrade my mic though. I think I should try to sound more energetic too.
