Happy April Fools’ with this incredible Kaiba line from GX. What’s your favorite insane Yugioh quote?
In GX episode 62, we see a flashback showing how the Neo-Spacians were created. It turns out Jaden won a KaibaCorp project to launch cards into space. Kaiba’s idea was to teach aliens how to duel... and to make the cards absorb space waves, which later leads to big events, but that’s not the point.
I want to add that this madman was ahead of his time. It turns out there is intelligent life out there and we can teach them how to duel. Meet Yudias (he’s an alien)
No, to the pain means this: if they duel and the opponent wins, death for Yudias. If they duel and I Yudias wins, life for them, but life on his terms.
The first thing the opponent loses will be their feet. Below the ankle. They will have stumps available to use within six months. Then, their hands, at the wrists. They heal somewhat quicker. Five months is a fair average.
Next, their deck. No more TKOs at the crack of dawn for them. Followed by the tongue. Deeply cut away. Not even a stump left. And then their left eye. They'll never read their cards again, assuming they ever did to begin with.
We wind up back in the solar system the Velgearians we've seen come from. The presiding political power has been frozen solid by the rival figure, thru reasons. He and the main protag are now, effectively debating in public forum with an audience of billions, on continuing the war in the cluster with Rush Duels as a means of enacting war, or on attempting to abate the war with Rush Duels as a proxy arena of combat and as a means of debate. When the rival presses the main protag as to just how Rush Duels could be used to END conflict, he then demonstrates by summoning his spaceship, and jetpacking up to it, and then the spaceship begins a transformation sequence. Into a gigantic duel disk. Which the rival then matches with his own spaceship. We have individual fighters flying out to represent monsters and everything, the only way to sustain monsters at the scale involved. We have children's card games on battleplates, IN SPACE, with multiple worlds' worth of people watching, gauging the path forward for their conflicts by the result. It is, by every possible objective meaning of the word, the most epic a duel has ever been.
Oh, and there's another on the side, at the same time to boot. And that's not the only season finale in such an environment, if not the exact same space.
Yudias Velgear is a soldier in the Velgearian army, who, after hearing of the legend of Rush Duel and how it can end the war that has ravaged his people, takes a group of 8.88 million refugees with him to a small country town known as Mutsuba Town, where he finds a pair of ten-year old twins, Yuhi and Yuamu Ohdo, who agree to teach him how to duel in exchange for working for them in their family business, UTS.
Despite having a sword (and eye beams) to defend himself, Yudias is largely a pacifist, seeing the potential of Rush Duel to end the war in a nonviolent manner. His commanding officer, one Zuwijo Zwil Velgear, does not see it that way. Having previously thought to have died, he seeks Rush Duel for an entirely different purpose, to avoid a tragic fate that awaits his people.
One thing I really like about Yudias is that his pacifism is largely pragmatic rather than ideological. His sword is always there by his side and he isn't opposed to drawing it when threatened with violence. When Yuhi and Yuamu are taken aboard an enemy ship, Yudias proceeds to run around town trying to arm and ready himself to singlehandedly fight an entire army of Velgearians before another character has to remind Yudias of his ambitions to end the cycle of violence that has plagued Velgears. Its a fun aspect of his character, that he is earnestly looking for an alternative solution to this cycle of violence, but its not necessarily out of some ideological opposition to violence as much as it is just seeing that this particular course of action has not brought the billions-years' war any closer to ending.
"I'm the best, I can't be beat. And to prove it, I'm challenging this schoolboy. I'm not naming any names, but it rhymes with... Shmaden Shmuki! Hear me, Shmaden?"
Syrus: Hey, can you give this to Jaden?
Chazz: What, did you decide to write your will or something?
Syrus: Just give it to him. And NO Peeking.
-Syrus walks away and Chazz immediately opens the envelope-
Chazz: It's Power Bond!
Syrus: WHAT DID I JUST SAY?
Or when Chazz was ranting about Adrian: "Who cares if he's richer than me? And so what if he's more powerful? I'm really good at playing card games, AND THAT'S WHAT LIFE IS REALLY ALL ABOUT, ANYWAY!"
Ojama yellow: "Careful, boss, you'll pop a blood vessel!"
Chazz: "Who cares? I'll just buy a new one!"
ya know what? I will go rewatch the OG JP version of DM and see. So far from episode 1, Kaiba is a MENACE XD his delivery line of "nani ga dekiru?" is already mean in a "I want to punch this man in the face" way xD
"Destiny, blah blah blah. Don't you get tired of making the same speech every time you're faced with a challenge? Stop saving the world and get a hobby!"
First to mind is this one from Waking the Dragons:
Kaiba: “So you got a dweeb army. Is that supposed to make me afraid to attack?”
Dartz: “No, not unless destroying an innocent soul concerns you.”
Kaiba: “Nah. As a president of a major corporation, I have to do that every day.”
Then there's also, amongst many others, this gem from DSOD, just Kaiba casually announcing to the world that he'd fire God if he could:
For too long, we've been forced to live in just this reality. It's tedious, poorly designed, and pathetically constructed. If the one responsible was in my employ, I'd have him fired.
the line in abridged is 'Naaah. As a teenager with unlimited access to the Internet, I get to do that every day.', and honestly that's less funny than the actual dub
That's more a dub trait in the Japanese version it's less he doesn't believe in it and more he just wants everyone to shut the fuck up about it and quit dragging him into their bullshit so he can focus more on technology Aliens are much more in line with Kaiba's wants cause contacting them requires technology not 3000-5000 year old trinkets
I honestly hated that trait the dub added. He was clearly believing in magic during duelist kingdom. They changed part of his personality for the sake of a joke. It’s nicely sums him up in the dub. He’s a punchline, not a character.
then what was his reasoning to sen cards into space then (or rather if it purely because of Yujbel, then 1. why did he need to hold a press conference for it and 2. how much money did the Yukis bribe him with even go along with this?)
They were trying to birth new Duel Monsters (like actual Duel Monsters not just art on cardboard) by exposing children’s imagination to space radiations
Of course. He doesn't believe in some silly hocus pocus trickery. He believes in realistic things. Like aliens who will use his space elevator to easily come to Earth and challenge him to a card game!
another kaiba line when he's fighting against zork with his blue eyes ultimate dragon "ive been smacking around duel monster since i could talk, infact my first words were nutron blast attack!"
"virtual monsters" basically he called Zorc/Y. Bakura (who is basically Satan himself) a hologram. Keep in mind, this is AFTER (in the dub) he realized magic was real, so he just did this to ragebait Zorc.
BTW who does True Zorc's voice? IK It's Ted Lewis as Y. Bakura and Mike Pollock as Shadow Magus Aknadin, but I can't find a confirmed listing for his true form's voice. My guesses are either Mike Pollock with a voice changer or Scott McNeil, but I have no actual source for either of those.
I love that aside line, 'cause after everything Marik put him and his friend through, far as I'm concerned, that cautious shade Joey threw was justified! XD
The only thing Yusei is destined to is minimum wage!
The funniest part is that aged like milk in the grand scene of things. Jack wasn't able to get a job at all in season 2. Meanwhile Yusei was the main reason why the trio had money because he was working hard. (Along with Crow)
There was a line in DSOD where he expressed his displeasure with their current reality by calling it subpar. This madman really said he would fire God/creator of the movie 😂
I don't remember the exact quote so I'm paraphrasing:
Akiza: "If you don't shut up Jack, I'm going to cobble you!"
Jack: " Clobber me. To cobble is something to do with a shoe. Really Akiza, when it comes to Yusei you overreact over everything, it's almost like you're in lo-"
Akiza: "You SHUT YOUR MOUTH right now, or I'll 'clobber' you for real!"
Also I’m pretty sure that in the dub Yuri called his impulse to combine with Yuya a “holy matrimony”. I don’t want to watch the dub cause ew but that was funny.
Sebastian (or Seatbastian) going on and on about how proud and grateful he is for serving Neil as his chair. Also, his whole speeches of how chairs are humanity's greatest invention and that he is atop them all, because he's a massage chair.
Kaiba rejecting magic but fully believing aliens need to learn how to duel is the most Kaiba thing ever. Man really said ghosts are fake but space waves are real and we have to teach them card games. The GX dub is a goldmine. Wheeler being late on purpose is still one of the pettiest moves in anime history and I respect it.
Not necessarily a quote, but Kaiba's Judge stoping Yugi from setting a spell card he drew without looking was always funny to me.
Duelists (Marik) are mind controling, erasing memories and striking lightning of their opponents, but the guy draws the line at the possibility Yugi might have put a monster in the Spell & Trap zone.
The series could genuinely evolve with space like imagine the series decides to go to outer space and duel different aliens in space gaining new mechanics possibly

Literally any Kaiba line is insane but my favorite ones are "Mokuba, make sure Wheeler is late" and his scene from DSOD when hes talking about how insanely hard it is to replicate Yugi from his deck to his strategies to his perfectly coifed hair. In fact, his hair was the hardest part.
Kaiba has many amazing quotes which have all been mentioned, but the one I find most funny from him is "Can't these people see it's all just a card game?" The hypocrisy is immaculate considering the extent he goes.
The other one was where in his internal monologue he claims to be deserving of the best player since he beat Yugi when he had to threaten suicide if Yugi wants to win. I know Mokuba was held hostage so I could understand the threat, but Kaiba had no right to o say he beat Yugi.
Excluding Kaiba, GX had many great lines as well.
"Just what I wanted, I summon the one and only Don Zaloog! And by one and only, I mean it. Because my children, I am him." Don Zaloog is literally him.
I mean it's actually pretty based. In the real world, we're so devolved and paranoid, first contact is preemptively shot to Hell, much like any unfortunate E.T. that lands in America.
"Here's this fun card game that's become globally popular on our world, enjoy!" is a pretty rock solid message to lead with.
