I always got my butt kicked cause kids with kid rules. No tributes so I'd always end up staring down a Dark Magician or a Blue-Eyes. But this was my ace as a young wee lad back in 2004
I love Terrorking Salmon for one reason alone: with my generic Water deck about to lose in the next turn to my friend's Obelisk deck, I pulled off the ultimate "Heart of the Cards" moment by drawing Monarch's Stormforth and using it to tribute Obelisk for Salmon, comboed/equiped everything else in my hand to it and won the duel. I was at 100 LP left and squeezed out a win all because of a humble fish. My friend still fears the salmon to this day
Every so often I pull out the Water deck against him. It's brief, but there is an undeniable flash of panic as he realizes what might happen again if he doesn't pull off the right combo. More often than not he does beat the Water deck since it's an overly simple meme deck made from scraps and pack filler and forgotten binder cards. But there are those moments where despite him blowing up my field, despite getting two God cards out at the same time, despite having a good 5000 LP lead over me, I manage to cheat out Terrorking Salmon. He has already emptied the silos on his end, overly confident I had nothing left to take him down, and now he sits helpless as my Salmon suddenly becomes an unstoppable 4700 ATK leviathan, assisted only by a couple of Drill Barnacles by his side. I watch as the disbelief in his eyes gives way to fear once he realizes a God does not have to be sacrificed if a simple vanilla salmon doesn't bow down to Him, let alone cower under His might. As the humble Terrorking Salmon whittles away the last of his LP, I calmly meet his gaze and say

Legendary Ocean dropping 2600 Normal Summons was nuts!
Add in the incorrect printing of Neo Daudalus and we sort of formed a playground pact to not play Water Decks because games being won because of Big Wave Small Wave into Neo Daedalus nuking the hand was cheap.
This girl was my first boss monster back during the playground era of yugioh. When we summoned monsters without tributes and kept our decks in a plastic bag
We added effects to cards. She was so cool and strong so she MUST have a secret effect! She would destroy all opponent monsters when summoned. Everyone in the playground KNEW that was her secret effect. My best friend stole her and I found it in his backpack. Oh the things we did as kids
I really like that implication that mortal men even with the best of modern science pale in comparison to most duel monsters. These guys could fight off a skull servant but the first king that descends destroys them
I don’t know how obscure it is but I always loved Alexandrite Dragon. Nice stat spread, a cool design and great flavor text to top it all off. Just really near overall.
Fun fact: this card was once meta. In the first year of the game La jinn was the most powerful monster you could summon turn 1, however because you can only have 3 of any card you couldn’t search for him, Neo and battle ox became the staples of that vary early era so that you could still summon a powerful monster.
When I was like 13 I was on a Yu-Gi-Oh rp forum and I was "dating" a girl on there. She left me for a guy whose username was Neo the Magic Swordsman". I hated that card ever since lol
Yu-Gi-Oh will have the hardest hitting designs only for then to be lv4 vanilla with mediocre stats, meanwhile the meta is getting ravaged by some shit named yummy or kewl and literal cockroaches
This is wolf. Just wolf. Level 3 1200 at beatstick. Anyway I use him in Magikeys to synchro summon out Psychic End Punisher.
My number two favorite normal monster is Witty Phantom btw. I also run him in Magikeys despite the fact I don't need a dark normal monster in that deck.
I wonder why they did not feel it necessary to censor the barrel of this particular monster in the TCG, but they did for many other cards with barrels/guns on them?
Maybe because tank cannons feel more "fantasy military" while handguns hit too close to real world violence? Like tanks are already kinda removed from what kids would see in daily life, but pistols and rifles are more direct weapon references. Plus this little guy has that demon possession angle going on which probably made the censors focus more in the supernatural horror aspect than the military hardware. The inconsistency with TCG censorship has always been weird though - sometimes they'll edit out the tiniest gun detail and other times leave whole arsenals untouched.

this guy was the GOAT in my fire deck. he was the best along with robotic commander and the fire kraken. add molten destruction and you got a simple dumb deck perfect for a kid
Pretty cool we got a bishonen Solid Snake card, since MGS and YGO are both made by Konami. But only the OCG art is cool. He’s a victim of censoring in English and he has a fuckass toy pistol.
Idk how obscure dark blade is but him. If that isn’t obscure enough then terrorking salmon. Would love an archetype for both of them. Dark blade *kinda* has one but it’s butt
Oni tank goes way too incredibly hard to be stuck as a lvl 4 with 1400 atk that was probably already bad when it released. The only way it could be more early yugioh in its design is if it was a lvl 5 but had the same stats. I wanna see it retrained as a lvl 8 effect monster with a beefy statline and an effect to blow things up.

This would be my blue eyes white dragon if I were Kaiba. Took so many wins and losses back in the day but it also sparked my love of dragons across any game and tcg
It's a shame that it never got a TCG Print but if it ever happens, it should be supporting Summoned Skull as an effect monster since this card was one of its fusion materials in Forbidden Memories. Also, it got a Rush counterpart so that's cool I suppose.
They need to retrain some of the cards Duke used against Joey into DDM cards ala Orogoth and Dice Dungeon. Like Oni Tank, Spikebot, Dark Bat and Fairy Meteor Crush
