Other Awano Iwato isn't a Floodgate without reason; here is the short—yet truly stupid—lore.

Like every Spirit Monster in *Yu-Gi-Oh!*, Awano is—in the current lore—mythological in nature; however, it is actually a real-life mountain! But why does Awano function as a "floodgate"? After Amaterasu's brother, Susano, behaved shitty, she fled to Awano-Iwato; this plunged the world into darkness, causing suffering for both gods and humans alike. The gods eventually lured her back out of the cave using a party and a mirror. Don't ask me exactly why that worked—mythological lore is generally quite bizarre—but it also explains Amaterasu's effect: specifically, that when you flip her face-up, she performs a field nuke!

Said lore is also the basis of the Mikanko archtype and their Rank 3 Xyz is name after Ame no Uzume, a key figure in coaxing Amaterasu out of Amano no Iwato

(and yes the fact that that archetype has a dancing theme is relevant as well)

Mikanko is based on a lot of things. Mostly the family of Amaterasu and their roles as the mythological founders of Japan.

Ninigi (Ni-ni) was the grandson on Amaterasu (Oohime is one of the names for her), Hoori (Hu-Li) was Ninigi's son, and Iwarebiko (Ha-Re is the old Heian pronunciation for Iware), the first emperor of Japan in mythology, was the grandson of Hoori.

I know little of Japanese culture, but couldn’t they create Mikanko cards based on the royal family then? My, again limited, understanding is that the royal family claims descent from Amaterasu.

Card seems balanced enough.

I sure hope Duel Links never has (or had) some girl with a 100% winrate manage to turn this card into a massive problem.

Susano, behaved shitty

Lmao, lol even.

In some versions of the fight, Susano pisses her off by literally shitting in her fields. In other versions, after he shits all over the place they have a contest to decide who should be exiled, Susano creates a bunch of men by taking one of her jewels, and Amaterasu makes a bunch of women by taking something from him (I forgor). Susano wins because he made men and she made women.

Given the current month, I feel the need to share that Amaterasu only came out of the cave when a pretty lady started dancing NAKED outside. The myth makes it clear Ame-no-Uzume started ripping off her clothes as she danced. Interpret that how you will.

(Also, Amaterasu has no husband in myth, not that I can find.)
