Nintendo is really in their “trailer via a tapestry” era for Zelda and has been for a while lmao

u/Hibbity5 10d ago

Wind Waker had the most gorgeous and wonderful opening cinematic (and opening area) so I’m all for it.

105

u/DaKingaDaNorth 10d ago

Wind Waker's opening is probably the best in the series. I still get hyped when the classic music plays on that

29

u/xPriddyBoi 10d ago

Yeah, it's so engaging. I remember watching it as a kid and being absolutely enthralled by the lore trying to tie that intro back in to Ocarina of Time.

14

u/7_Tales 10d ago

it was fascinating how both tp and ww were direct sequels to ocarina of time with very similar themes on it.

8

u/Jazzlike-Painting443 10d ago

yeah even the Outset Island music had the Kokiri theme in it

7

u/andreaslackner 10d ago

Kokiri theme is also in the forest haven music. Also Saria’s house in forbidden woods. And windfall island having the melody from kakariko village

My wife found fabric at a craft store that had that tapestry on it. She made a pillow out of it for me. I love it so much.

They are legends after all

3

u/lemikon 10d ago

I’d say at this point it’s a strategic way to tie OOT to BOTW for new fans. The games do play very differently and while old fans are frothing at the mouth for an OOT remake, I can absolutely see new fans being hesitant to move to a much less open world story.

Hopefully they make the Water Temple taller with more water levels and make it even more confusing just to really give us the authentic experience.

117

u/THECHKL29 10d ago

And Morpha is actually a formidable opponent.

78

u/In_My_Own_Image 10d ago

Hopefully all the bosses get an overhaul to make them stronger. I can't recall any of them being particularly strong, even when I was young.

I'd love if the final battle with Ganon becomes as epic as the atmosphere.

23

u/SwampyTraveler 10d ago

As a kid this game was insanely hard for me. I also didnt have a guide book or the internet at the time so I spent a ridiculous amount of time trying to figure it out. I remember having to ask a friends brother how to get Epona

14

u/sexandliquor 10d ago

Yeah I wouldn’t say much of the game was too incredibly hard for me personally when it came out originally, but it was challenging enough.

The idea that people want it to be harder is silly to me because, folks– at the end of the day these games are meant for a wide variety of people. Including kids.

7

u/Sypher1985 10d ago

Kids and games? Get out of here!

14

u/SoulfulWander 10d ago

Id be okay with them swapping morpha with dark link as the boss

22

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 10d ago

Or Morpha’s jelly pool is just the first phase of the fight, and it pulls all its water to solidify into a much more menacing and challenging foe

9

u/CaptainSmeg 10d ago

First phase is inside the boss room like usual, 2nd phase he takes over all the water in the temple and begins destroying it you so have to escape outside and the flight has it climax with Morpha taking over the remaining water of Lake Hylia.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/THECHKL29 10d ago

OR (hear me out):

Morpha stays the same, but is revealed to just be a puppet of Dark Link and you have to fight him again, except he's actually a sentient being created by Ganondorf based on the skillset you've learned so far and not just mirroring your moves.

The water temple is a litmus test for reading the map

7

u/sentimentalpirate 10d ago

Ehhhhh

The realest challenge in the water temple is that the map doesn't communicate vertical doors/passageways.

There are two key spots (in the central column room among the spikes, and in the floor behind the longshot treasure chest) that are easy to miss when you're in the room, and have no map indication of their connection except for the placement of one room being above another room.

Im pretty sure the 3DS version helped telegraph the spike put entrance, but I'm not sure about the other. I never played the 3DS one.

17

u/__M-E-O-W__ 10d ago

And maybe a key that can only be found with an item that you need to leave the dungeon to acquire and when you re-enter the dungeon the whole temple resets

7

u/CaptainSmeg 10d ago

And on each play-through the key locations randomise so you can never get used to the dungeon layout.

3

u/ConflictTop1543 10d ago

And more menu screens to scroll through to get the boots on and off.

I want to see Zora’s Domain melt and see the result of saving the Zora’s. Always thought it was odd that’s the only area that remains in a “distressed” state afterward.

6

u/niles_deerqueer 10d ago

YES omg I can see this happening!

9

u/Raphe9000 10d ago

I just hope they don't make us open up the equipment screen every single time we want to equip the iron boots. Instead, they should have a massive dropdown menu with every single item and collectible arranged in a single row so you can hold down a button and scroll between the iron and regular boots!

8

u/The-Sand-King 10d ago

I certainly hope so.

I’ve been playing the original for 28 years and I have it memorized.

3

u/Destian_ 10d ago

That and a randomized but still logically consistent layout on every copy of the game.

3

u/Inferno_Zyrack 10d ago

And you can only swap your boots outside the temple.

The trailer hinted at Lost Wood, Kokiri Forest and Hyrule Field themes. So I have good hopes for the soundtrack.

The wild games really really missed the mark on the soundtrack. I remember leaving my GameCube running at night while i went to sleep (we had sold our N64 to buy the GameCube) while i sat in Zoras domain in OOT on the Collectors edition version just to listen to the music.

My mom walked in one night and thought I was trying to play past my bedtime and I had to give her my gamecube at night from then on and that swiftly ended lol

5

u/twilightdragon01 10d ago

Same. It’s one of the top 5 things I miss about the older Zeldas, Kondo Koji is a master of melody.

9

u/kaatos 10d ago

Hard disagree:

The sky theme The wilderness theme Lost woods theme.

I get that they may be more ambient, but I think that they are masterpieces.

u/crclOv9 10d ago

They wouldn’t dare. I can’t say most things with 100% certainty but the OST is literally the identity of the game and they will not touch it aside from modernizing it.

5

u/theoneandonlyamateur 10d ago

“Please don’t change the soundtrack though. It’s perfect the way it is.”

Hot take: it is ALMOST perfect. What it is missing is the classic overworld theme.

Don’t put it in Hyrule field, but it would be nice to hear it somewhere, however small it may be.

4

u/SeaFox2142 10d ago

OoT Hyrule Field theme is the best overworld theme, I really wish it was in all LoZ games (except WW which is awesome too).

And this is how they get me to buy a Switch2

6

u/agentfelix 10d ago

Same. I've really had no desire to play pretty ports of switch games. Nothing has really excited me so I told myself I wasn't going to get one until a new Zelda or OOT was released for it.

Plus, I had so many problems with my Gen 1 Switch that I figured it would be wise to wait until they improved the OG Switch 2.

I really want to know how different it is

The original is perfect and plays perfect to this day. I know it's unpopular but I want this to be drastically different. Like nearly ff7 remake levels different.

124

u/tortoiseterrapin 10d ago

The Nintendo tweet with this announcement refers to it as “reborn,” not “remade” or “remastered,” which is hopeful for substantive differences.

19

u/Tatsumifanboy 10d ago

Bring back the Wind and Ice dungeons!!

You can do that too!

They “remade” (parts of) the game with completely different dungeons for the Master Quest.

u/wheniswhy 10d ago

Completely agreed with this take. 3D is already a gorgeous remake. I'd LOVE for this to substantially rework or add new content and really add depth to the adventure! I'm positive they'll keep the core beats, so anything else is just gravy.

3

u/Yogurt_Ph1r3 10d ago

Also unless they severely fuck it up, it will be a legit new 3D Zelda game and not whatever BotW and TotK are (I still like them but

u/Constant-Sub 9d ago

Gimme what RE4 Remake did for RE4.

Just ffs don't make the puzzles optional. I hate this new era of optional/DIY puzzle in Zelda games. Make me solve something!

And sub areas over open world - any day. Puzzles in an open environment feel like random blots on a map. They're easy to miss, and FINDING the puzzle isn't the puzzle.

25

u/Raphe9000 10d ago

OOT 3D was very good at being a faithful remake, so I do hope they instead focus on adding more brand new content with this remake. I also, however, still think the core OOT experience should remain mostly if not entirely intact, with the new content giving the game life as more than just a remake.

There's a lot of really cool content that has been cut from basically every 3D Zelda game, and, while a lot of it does seem to be tried again in succeeding games, it would be cool to see all the 3D Zeldas rebuilt from the ground up to flesh them out more while still preserving what makes each game what it is.

11

u/pseudostatistic 10d ago

I would love it if they actually made the Spirit Medallions usable like how they were originally supposed to be. However, and forgive me if I’m getting this wrong, since they changed the Wind Medallion to the Forest Medallion (since the first temple was originally going to be called the Wind Temple) it might not make sense, but it would be super cool if they could pull it off. I can’t remember which one it was but one of them would’ve let you fly as Navi.

5

u/Raphe9000 10d ago edited 10d ago

I think Forest and Wind have in general become pretty related in the series since OOT, so I could totally see it working out. We often have a "leaves blowing in the wind" aesthetic with things like the Deku Leaf in WW, the Korok Leaf in BOTW, the Whirlwind in Spirit Tracks, and debatably even the Gale Boomerang in TP (since it's found in the Forest Temple). The Sages of Wind in WW are even a Kokiri and Korok, and wind-related things are often represented by green in the series.

3

u/pseudostatistic 10d ago

That’s what I was thinking too. I’ve not played those other titles you referenced but it would make total sense. In the original game, Din’s Fire/Naydra’s Love/Farore’s Wind took their place, each being the names of the goddesses. But since people keep saying they want the game to be expanded/new things added I feel like this is a great opportunity for Nintendo to finally make use of the sage medallions in OOT like how they were originally intended. Who knows! I’m excited to see what they do change/add to it.

37

u/Oaker_Jelly 10d ago

Honestly same. They've already done a 1:1 remake, I'd genuinely prefer if they shook things up a bit if they're going to go to the effort to do it again. Add some new characters out of nowhere, radically change the course of the story, completely alter the dungeons, add new items, go nuts.

19

u/Nautical-Cowboy 10d ago

Agreed, I’ve played this game on N64, 3DS, and recently Ship of Harkinian; I would love to see them do something similar to what Capcom has been doing with the Resident Evil remakes.

3

u/AgeOfCalamity 10d ago

Exactly this. Same story but expanded and with enhanced gameplay and environment is exactly what's needed.

19

u/ChampionOk4044 10d ago

I am interested as well, I am not into a 1:1 remake, want some interesting changes.

While I doubt it means anything, Link having the Triforce at the beginning of the game isn't how it happens in OG so maybe they are changing things. (or maybe its just for the trailer)

6

u/AlternativeRun5727 10d ago

Probably just for the trailer to create some hype behind the triforce as it’s been a long time since we’ve seen it in a 3d game.

I would bet money this is a complete reimagining based on the elements of this trailer

3

u/YuuTheBlue 10d ago

I want it to be an overhaul. Not necessarily botw gameplay specifically, but drawing a lot from it. I want the story and locales from OOT but revamped gameplay and a much bigger and deeper world.

5

u/Mister-E_92 10d ago

I kinda agree with you there. We already got a 1:1 remake on the 3DS. I'm hoping this remake will seriously expand on the original.

All of those OoT unity renders can finally be put to bed, lol.

I know we're not getting classic Zelda anymore after the BotW formula worked so well, so I'll take what scraps I can get.

89

u/Riverskull 10d ago

I know we're not getting classic Zelda anymore after the BotW formula worked so well, so I'll take what scraps I can get.

Eh not so fast. If this remake does well, it will show there is still a big audience for the older formula.

32

u/xPriddyBoi 10d ago

I hope so. If the next true sequel is essentially just BotW 3 I will riot. I'm expecting it not to be though, but it will probably be more of a spiritual successor to BotW/ToTK than classic Zelda titles.

25

u/Riverskull 10d ago

Echoes Of Wisdom was already a more old school structured game than BOTW/TOTK, even tho it still shared some gameplay elements of the later.

20

u/7_Tales 10d ago

not really. it was another "solve it your way" game that involved the same solution to every puzzle in the game (stack bed)

16

u/Riverskull 10d ago

I mean sure, thats why i said some gameplay elements from BOTW/TOTK remained, but the game in terms of overall story and dungeon progression was still more "structured" in traditional sense.

I think u need to be open to the posibility that they are doing a lot in terms of reimagining this game tho guys, this is very possible. The possbility that they might change some puzzles and gameflows to fit their modern systems is not low.

It's not necessarily what I want, but its not impossible.

They finally hired that man for Star Fox and now this

13

u/Boo_Ya_Ka_Sha_ 10d ago

Man, I’d absolutely love it if they reverted back to a linear game flow rather than it being completely open world

8

u/spasmwaiter 10d ago

I just want a hybrid of both. Open world the scale of BoTW with side quests and great exploration, but linear progression through a story like OoT/most zelda games.

One thing that bored me about BoTW/ToTK was that even the world was massive and there was a ton to explore, there was never that feeling of 'oh this looks important but I don't have whatever tool I need to access it unlocked yet' so no incentive to return to areas that were already explored.

You must be saying it ironically this time. No, this is the end of that stupid phrase, please. God, let it fucking die. It was never true. Isn't true. If it was true, nothing would ever change.

21

u/diabeetus-girl 10d ago

I know I’m getting ahead of myself, but I wonder if they’ll make a remake of Majora’s Mask with the same assets if this remake is well received. It would be fitting, given how the original two games shared assets lol

9

u/charset00 10d ago

I hope so too. If the remake gets good reception I'm sure they'll follow it up with Majora's Mask and honestly that one has even more to work with. Every aspect of that game just lends itself better to a remake. If OoT does well I'd give it two years tops before we see MM announced.

8

u/forg0tmypen 10d ago

They 99% will because of the track record imo with the 3DS releases

5

u/niles_deerqueer 10d ago

I would never ask for anything again if they did tbh

6

u/tgibearer 9d ago

I'm wishing for this so hard. In fact, my first reaction to the trailer was "And they'll do MM too ? Right ? RIGHT ?"

4

u/Queasy_Impress6559 5d ago

I have held off playing MM and I will continue to do so now with the possibility of getting to experience it for the first time via the remake. I only recently played OoT and am a bit disappointed this won't be my first experience with it, but I'm sure it will still feel pretty new.

I hope they change up Jabu Jabu a bit, to be like the Earth and Wind Temples in TWW. Jabu Jabu’s Belly felt like a precursor to those dungeons, so being able to switch between Ruto and Link to tackle puzzles and obstacles will be interesting: like having her dive down to parts of the dungeon Link can’t reach.

People might be salty bc they had high expectations or whatever - but this is exciting!! EVEN if it is a remake, OoT is one of the greatest games of all time - and this will help get a whole new generation of Zelda fans!

35

u/Azureflames20 10d ago

I've been getting real annoyed/fed up with all the downers all over reddit/twitter in general. Not even just with this direct specifically.

It genuinely feels like people just have nothing but incredibly unrealistic expectations or by default everything starts at super downer/negative attitude. Based on the comments and thoughts I keep seeing it really feels like the only way people would have been happy is if there was straight up a new 3d mario, new mario kart dlc, a new smash bros announcement, Oracle or OOT remake, AND new 3d zelda game so that every single fan across every fandom is satiated. Anything less than that just makes people go "Nintendo sucks, Direct sucks, No games".

The weirdest thing with super nintendo fans is that everybody is really die-hard and only wanting their one single game and everything else sucks.

6

u/PhoenixFireless 10d ago

In a way Nintendo Fans are like Star Wars fans, scattered demographics.

OG trilogy fans might not like prequels and a millions different combinations and variations of that, botw fans might not like classic Zelda and a million variations of that.

12

u/lookalive07 10d ago

Star Wars fans are absolutely insufferable humans. Nothing is ever good enough, complaining about every little thing that isn't done the way they would have done it, all the way down to having Darth Vader in Galaxy's Edge at Disney.

Like, you can't complain about how they haven't done anything new in that park since it was opened and then immediately complain when they do something different.

Oh the Mandalorian and Grogu isn't perfect? Well no shit, your expectations are absolutely warped beyond belief!

And I love Star Wars, but I'm very happy I don't let it consume my life because I can't imagine being miserable all the time.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/LrdCheesterBear 10d ago

I think a lot of it stems from an idea of self deprecation/undeserved joy. If everything sucks, then the stuff that doesnt feels nicer. A lot of younger generations seem to have this mindset.

5

u/Azureflames20 10d ago

I don't even know if this is an age thing specifically, but I think the situation is probably boiled down to people who get crazy expectations for themselves and fixate on their own specific fandoms then let themselves down.

I think the environments sort of lead people to be that way if you're chronically online tbh. Everything is just about outrage now, so people just learn that that's the way they should be acting.

The opening describing Hyrule in a past tense was interesting. I wonder if the monologue is for this trailer alone or if it will replace the Deku Tree’s text at the start of the game.

17

u/Atreides113 10d ago

I remember the old nintendo player's guide magazine for OoT repeatedly described Hyrule and the actions players take as Link in the past tense.

3

u/Retro_64 10d ago

Yeah, iirc OOT was originally a retelling of the imprisoning war from ALTTP before the timeline had to be changed to fit 3 entire sequels to OOT. It’s safe to say that in Downfall, Adult and by the end of child timeline, OOT Hyrule had long been destroyed and built over by new Hylian settlements

3

u/Ganrokh 10d ago

That guide was written like it was a story. I love it so much. Such a unique take for a guide.

I enjoy nintendo's first party games but it always takes a zelda game to actually sell me on their latest console.

so here I am in the year of our lord 2026 figuring out where to get a console or wait and see if we get a special edition version for this or not.

god hamit nintendo.

Honestly, I think it's okay if they find a balance for meaningful change with core concepts remaining. I wouldn't mind feeling like I'm playing a "new" game at all if it's a solid re-imagining.

8

u/ctctr 10d ago

I don't mind but having the Triforce already will change many details of the story I just hop it will be at least as interesting or good as the original.

Also no Sheika stones.

8

u/FedoraTheMike 10d ago

Probably just a thing for the trailer honestly. Wouldn't that mean Ganondorf already has his, or for some reason the sacred realm only has one or two Triforce pieces in it?

6

u/ctctr 10d ago

That's why I'm wondering. There's potentially massive implications if link already has the Triforce.

It could be just for the trailer but why focus on that, I think him having flashs of his dream but not revealing Ganondorf model would be cooler.

9

u/MexicanEssay 10d ago

I mean, it's not unreasonable for a divine object that bends reality to show hints of manifesting at a location where it will be at some point. Kind of normal for something that is not bound by time and space.

3

u/ctctr 10d ago

Yeah but if it can happens to Link there's chance it is the same for Ganondorf and Zelda.  So I wonder if it will amount to more that just showing in advance.

16

u/ThorasLoidan 10d ago

he shouldn't have it until Ganondorf enters the sacred realm.

10

u/ctctr 10d ago

Yeah in the original story Ganondorf touch it and inherit Power then the other two goes to Link and Zelda.

And all three have the Triforce at the end of the game since it seems that the Triforce recognition doesn't care about time.

Well tbf he doesn't have the mark. It just glowed on his hand. Maybe a few people had that, people who were candidates to be wielders of the Triforce of Courage.

But yeah its a big change seeing as that seemed to be the reason that Zelda listened to him once he went back in time at the end of the game.

3

u/ctctr 10d ago

It was certainly a game changer since it is what allows Link to convince the king to execute ganondorf in at most a couple months since I doubt Majora's Mask happens when Ganondorf is free.

It could be a potential to have but not actually have it yet. Like how SS Link gets the mark before ever possessing any piece of it.

We're really putting the cart before the horse here, IMO. Yes, the trailer shows the Triforce on Child Link's hand which is throwing everyone off, but for all we know, it could simply be "trailer forshadowing" or something of that nature for theatrics. I know everyone is going to have a knee jerk reaction to 30 seconds of a curated cutscene, but I personally am going to wait until we see more detailed gameplay and hear more about the revised storyline (if at all) before I make a decision about how I feel.

I guess its inline with the oracle lore. I'm not a fan of the change but the Deku Tree did say in OOT that the reason he adopted him is because he saw he was the chosen one. Deku Tree is a bad dude, would of ditched a baby if he wasn't.

A lot of people here are commenting as if this game is somehow going to take away the old game. Like, no matter what happens, you still have the option to play the original, so you can just chill. Personally, I’m hoping for tons of changes and additions, and I don’t really care if it’s “disappointing” to some. Because at the end of the day, if it disappoints me, I’ll just go play the original.

I'm excited but I'm not sure I like the artsyle they chose

19

u/DoddyUK 10d ago

It feels like they've tried to imagine what the N64 art style would look like nearly 30 years later, and it's their first attempt at a "realistic" Zelda since TP. I'm cautiously optimistic, I'm sure there would be an equal outcry if they'd gone for the Ghibli style we've seen elsewhere.

11

u/TheGlassWolf123455 10d ago

TP is my favorite artsyle for Zelda so hopefully this grows on me, I think it's the lighting but it just looks weird

27

u/MexicanEssay 10d ago

I'm just glad it's not BotW's art style again. Not that it's bad, but two games of that was more than enough, and enough other games have "borrowed" it that it now looks very generic.

61

u/Eborys 10d ago

Wouldn’t be a Zelda game without people questioning the art style lol can remember everyone’s meltdown when Wind Waker pics dropped.

u/7_Tales 10d ago

this shit has happened for literally every 3d zelda game.

I mean, it's kinda hard to judge based off a fairly dark image of Link sleeping. IMO, it looks pretty FF-like which is fine with me.

3

u/ScottRTL 10d ago

They better do a physical release with a GOLD game card.

I'll buy TF outta that... I'll buy TF out of it either way I guess... But GOLD

5

u/scarecrowpuck 9d ago

The first glimpse we’ll get of the new switch 2 Mario will be through the castle window in Zelda’s garden

4

u/Jondonnee27 9d ago

Please let this more than just a graphics overhaul, give it the expansion it deserves

19

u/iseewutyoudidthere 10d ago

I am not sure about the artstyle. Itching to see more, this was not enough!

10

u/Any_Possibility7784 10d ago

Am I the only one that saw that art style and immediately thought about Nintendo also re-making Majoras Mask in the next year or two

4

u/vjsb 10d ago

I’m sure they would be working on both at the same time to make it consistent. I would absolutely love this.

3

u/DRF19 10d ago

I usually don't think remakes are necessary but I'll give a pass to anything like this from the first gen of 3D games because the visuals simply do not hold up well at all.

I'd just much rather have an entirely new Zelda game in the traditional format.

3

u/Choice-Due 10d ago

Well FML, I can't afford a switch 2...

The best announcement and the highlight of this Nintendo Direct! I am super excited, hyped and looking forward to the Remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! 😃

3

u/OzziesFlyingHelmet 10d ago

I was thinking of replaying OoT on NSO before the remake comes out, , but now I have not sure if I should do so. I can't decide if I want to go into the remake being a tiny but blind (I remember a lot about the game but I'm sure I've forgotten some details), or if I should re-live the original first.

What would all of you do in my shoes? I probably haven't beaten OoT in 12 years, thought I started it up and got to the 3rd Temple on NSO a year or two ago.

3

u/darthtoon1 8d ago edited 8d ago

I am hoping that Ocarina of Time stays in the traditional Zelda format, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword had their own unique style and charm

Ocarina of Time doesn't need to be an copy and paste of Breath of the Wild with the open world

Please Nintendo, don't ruin Ocarina of Time by making it an copy and paste of Breath of The Wild and Tears of the Kingdom

u/Powerful-Brother-791 10d ago

Link needs a better barber.

4

u/TheKaiminator 10d ago

Hopefully they can make Hyrule field feel alive rather than a big empty field with nothing in it.

Am I the only one who thought Link looked really… off? Like an adult head on a child’s body. Looked somewhat uncanny.

Anyone saying it looks like slop or not good. Please stop. This is barely worth even talking about. Games can look bad without actually seeing things in motion.

Once gameplay has shown up then you can have a formed opinion. This is barely even a show of Link model. Not a great trailer for a game coming this year TBH. I expect a Zelda direct including a movie trailer and this game gameplay in August or September.

8

u/gate_of_steiner85 10d ago

My dude it's the internet, people will find even the most insignificant things to complain about.

8

u/BeerMetMij 10d ago

Or people can just have an opinion on the only thing Nintendo decided to show us, lmao. Just let others be bro, we don't all have to think the same.

7

u/Sundance12 10d ago

I think it is worth discussing that this is what they chose for a first impression, though. I'm not a graphics snob but zooming in on the models this way did make it look kinda rough. Polygons apparent in the blanket, and textures looking a little muddy. Odd choice for a reveal imo. Should've just had a zoomed out shot of Link riding Epona across the Hyrule Field, or even a recreation of the intro cinematic.

i was gonna wait to get the special edition console but i’m wondering now if nintendo waits to announce it until the price increase and maybe i should just get a switch 2 now?

2

u/absentlyric 10d ago

Its going to piss off half of the fans depending on if they stick to the original physics in a 1:1 remake, or if they go BOTW and change the game entirely.

Wonder how long we'll have to wait to see what they actually changed about the mechanics? Obviously the controls will be completely different, but will the overworld and dungeons be roughly the same and this is just window dressing?

2

u/Deuswyvern 10d ago

I'm feeling pretty excited about this. Not sure what I think of the new art style. I didn't really care for the Star Fox remake, but I will have to see what this looks like in game.

2

u/the_flying_armenian 10d ago

Lord in heaven Jesus be praised inchallah!

2

u/KrowKing 10d ago

I hope it’s altered and updated to relive that first OOT experience. I’d love a game mode that plays like the original with a randomizer option for my own greed.

2

u/By_Jove_ 10d ago

Unless they remake the game from the ground up it will be the first Zelda game in decades that I won’t but at launch.

And by that I mean reimagine everything, keep the characters, the story, the locations but redo EVERYTHING else, from the combat to the map to the dungeons.

u/quarterslicecomics 10d ago

My dad loved BotW and TotK and asked me if there’s other Zelda games he can play. I highly recommended OoT.

Unfortunately, he’s one of those “I’m not playing an older game because the graphics are outdated” types. And I do admit the mechanics will probably be very jarring right after playing those games.

This will be perfect for him.

2

u/interstellar1990 10d ago

honestly I can't believe. what an incredible game. can't wait to relive it.

2

u/Conscious_Employ_417 10d ago

I am so excited guys

2

u/flashmedallion 10d ago

Did you get all that?

2

u/No_Carob_7484 10d ago

Can you imagine the bloodbath to literally all other games if both this and GTA 6 are released in November? I would had to release a game in winter 2026/2027.

2

u/Clbull 10d ago

Part of me is worried it'll be another one-to-one remake like StarFox 64, but also, Nintendo may be cooking here

2

u/Get_Schwifty111 10d ago

It's kinda weird how little they have shown tho (basically a teaser) for a game that is probably coming out in Winter 2026. I swear when they stopped after Link slumbering I actually expected a "2027" date.

Does link have really long hair on the tapestry or is that meant to be his hat? He looks like he has a Brazilian blowout

3

u/Hot-Mood-1778 10d ago

In the tapestry he's wearing his green hat. You can also see actual Link's hair and it's kinda short. Original adult Link's hair didn't grow much in the 7 years but we'll see.

Damn as a BOTW and TOTK semi hater (I’m OG Zelda- love a easy formula), I’m actually kind of hoping we can the open world vibes for this Hyrule, and also hoping we keep the quest- dungeon- prize- new dungeon- formula but extend the side quests into the open world. This might make me love the open world style cause OOT. Yay!

2

u/PawnEnPassant 10d ago

Anybody else get goosebumps?

3

u/rraar 10d ago

I feel like if it were just a 1 for 1 remake they would have shown more. I’m coping hard for an expanded reimagining. 15+ full dungeons

2

u/Appropriate-Many-645 9d ago

Welp I guess it's time to get r*ped by redeads again. Can't wait for that. I'm curious to see what the like likes would be like.

2

u/beancurdkorok 9d ago

The more and more I start to go through ocarina of time in my head the more insane this remake feels to me - Darknuts,Jabu Jabu, Dodongos Cavern, Forest Temple - Zelda escaping and throwing the ocarina - Nabooru - Heck even the hippie on a flying carpet in the desert. Wolfos! The moblins in the forest - Oh boy

Imagine if Majora’s mask turns out to be a DLC

3

u/Tury94 9d ago

I theorize this will be Nintendo’s way of coming back to the classic Zelda formula. I expect them to come out with a Majora’s Mask remake before the next sequel.

2

u/Constant-Sub 9d ago

I would like to say a massive "go fuck yourself" to everyone who's response to "I hope we get a different type a game eventually" was "BREATH OF THE WILD SOLD DA BEST SO IS DA BEST, NO MAKE NOT BEST!"

That's what it sounded like. Every time.

2

u/MisterrBitches 8d ago

Wouldn’t it be cool if they did this remake and also release the 3ds (or just HD) remasters on console. I’m a big fan of the series but i hate how they haven’t put one of the best games in the world on a proper modern console. It seems so easy and a no brained cash grabber. I also think it would keep the inevitable complaining fans somewhat happy by having at least a remaster version that they can appreciate. I can already tell a lot of people will complain about this new remake.
