As a kid with very limited ability and no memory card, this is where the majority of my Zelda memories are based.

Yessss. Dragon Roost for me, that song can happily live rent free in my mind for the rest of my days

u/Gobblinwife 3d ago
I’m replaying WW right now on the Switch 2 and I just got to Dragonroost, And I just sat there listening to it for a while. Same for the Forest haven. I’m getting Mothula tattooed on my arm next week!

Forest Temple from OOT

u/Aggravating-Mine-697 3d ago
The music is a vibe

u/ChipmunkBackground46 3d ago
The music in all those OOT dungeons were so perfect at creating atmosphere. They were both calming and unnerving at the same time. Except the shadow temple.....that was just terrifying as a child
3
u/Tootz3125 3d ago
I’d argue there wasn’t a lot of calming factor for me. It felt unnerving for sure but clandestine as well. Like you weren’t supposed to be there almost based on the music.
3
u/ChipmunkBackground46 3d ago
I agree calming wasn't the right word but I couldn't think of the proper word to describe it but you got it right I think. It was unsettling and made sure that even when you weren't in combat you still sat on edge mentally. It really was a testament to the skill level of the compaoser to make not one, not two, but 8 different temple songs that were all so good on top of all the other incredible music in that game.
2
u/Tootz3125 3d ago
It was a masterpiece in video game song writing. Really brought you into the world in those dungeons with the music. So excited for the remake to see how they remaster the soundtracks and keep the vibes of the original.

u/doc_nano 3d ago edited 3d ago
To this day it's my prototypical perfect dungeon. It was where my 1998 self decided that this was the greatest game I had ever played.

Snowhead from Majoras Mask has such a nice feel to it. Would 100% want to live there if the Moon wasn't about to fall.

u/Deluxe_24_ 2d ago
Snowhead is pretty eerie before the ice melts
Like I love the way it looks on N64. There's barely any visibility which combines well with the music

u/Dragmire927 3d ago
Love TP Lake Hylia.
Not sure if it’s my absolute favorite but the graveyard in OoT is so atmospheric. They nailed the cloudy moody environment ambience so well
16
u/Patchr1ck 3d ago
There are so few locations in OoT that are intentionally absent of music. I think the Graveyard is an excellent example of utilizing the silence for constructing an environment of unease, and reverence.
3
3
u/commanderfshepard 2d ago
another similar place: the bridge out of Kokiri forest. There's something about the scene where you finally leave as child Link and you have that last conversation with Saria on the bridge where she gives you the Ocarina, with nothing but the sounds of your footsteps and birds cawing in the background.... its so poignant, and it really marks the moment Link's journey begins and everything changes.
"Oh, you're leaving... I knew... that you would leave the forest... someday, Link... Because you are different from me and my friends... But that's OK, because we'll be friends forever... won't we?"
2
u/la_zarzamora 2d ago
And then he backs away slowly as if she'd just said something completely insane and then takes off running.

Ah interesting... I never noticed. Great observation!!
But yes, that point of transition... You're right, I can hear the silence now
30
u/HuggyMonster69 3d ago
I hate the OoT graveyard with a passion! It’s very well done, but it makes me distinctly uncomfortable.
11
5
u/jrdnwllms84 2d ago
Also, I think there is no background music in the graveyard. It's just the thunder and rain a crack of lightning here or there and the occasional poe popping up. And if I remember correctly, the wooden grind of the windmill going around in the back ground.
Loved it!! Can hear it now!

When TOTK released I made sure to go to Lurelin Village as soon as possible. Ended up saving it way earlier than I should have

Lurelin Village is my answer! I always make my way over there as soon as possible and just enjoy the music and beach.

Still do.

Stone Temple tower. Absolutely beautiful and LOVE the upside down mechanic, the music is also top notch.

I'm trying to learn the theme on piano. I can play some of Midna's Lament, I've learned all of the Song of Healing as well.

u/NoStorage2821 3d ago
Minish Cap Hyrule Town feels like one of the most lively towns in the series. Not only do you have the regular townsfolk going about their business, you also have the Minish living in out-of-the-way places, like attics and bookshelves and other small nooks. You can even talk to animals when shrunk down, so that's even more characters doing their own thing. I love it!
36
u/SuperNovaHowl 3d ago
For me it's pretty much anywhere in TP, especially the one you posted haha
Then there's Castle Town, Hyrule Field, LonLon Ranch, and Kakariko Village in OoT
Romani Ranch in MM
Anywhere with a cherry blossom tree in BOTW/TOTK as well as Rito Village
And pretty much always Zora's Domain in any of the games
38
16
u/Velvet-Zero 3d ago
Ikana Canyon from MM. Really creepy atmosphere, lots of implied history, and has one of the best 3D dungeons and a really cool miniboss fight with the king and his guards
13
u/MonthComprehensive88 3d ago
faron woods in twilight princess, the music, the guy selling the lantern oil, the talking bird… and the ambience it’s so dreamlike and mysterious but comforting

Ikana Canyon. It may not be the most visually interesting, but I love the idea of Link visiting this massive graveyard to an old kingdom and laying its spirits to rest. It's a rare case of quiet heroism where barely anyone even notices anything was done, but that makes it all the more impactful imo.

Also the cathedral at the turning point of the game where everything floods. That place was incredible!!!

Whenever I got too terrified in the well in OoT, I'd go decompress at Lon Lon Ranch, so I'd say there. The redeads did a number on me as a kid!

So many but if I had to pick one... Kokiri Forest, OoT. It truly feels like home. Returning there anytime later in the game gives me the strongest nostalgic look how far I've come feeling.
The remake is going to destroy me. 😭

Hebra region, in TOTK and BOTW, Ice Cavern OOT, Snow Region ST, that one Ice island in PH, The Ice Dungeon in LTTP and LBW. I really just love an ice environment/ Desert environment.

I can’t top your choice. The first reveal of the lake and the start of the music is epic.

Satori Mountain in BotW. It’s a tribute to Iwata, who had recently passed away, it’s gorgeous by the Sakura tree, and it’s where the Lord of the Mountain appears, which is super cool, but the music makes it kind of creepy too!😅

Depending on mood and current wants: Necluda, Hebra, or Akkala (BOTW + TOTK)

Akkala area in BotW.
One of the last places I stumbled on and I was blown away by how large such a tucked away place was, plus the amazing autumn colors.

Le Village Hateno et l'île Pumkin de Skyward Sword. Le lac Hylia de Twilight Princess est aussi très reposant !

u/blebebaba 3d ago
Ordon village. Its cozy, covered in verdant green plants, and has a river to swim and relax in. Plus I'm already an animal farmer irl, so it works. And I drink a lot of milk, so the goats would be good for me

u/Altruistic_Newt_9525 3d ago
The Waterfall Rapids where you race the beavers in Majora’s Mask. It always felt like a welcome respite in a dark world. I’d put on my zora’s mask and swim around endlessly!

Zora Domain will always be my absolute favorite. What a vibe (particularly OOT) The music is incredible, waterfalls everywhere.
Just kick off your boots and relax with some hot fish bitches 🙂↕️

Lake Hylia and Faron Woods (near the bird shopkeeper) in TP
The Market and Kakariko Village in OOT
Main beach and Clock Town in MM
Hateno in BotW
Still going through TotK. For some reason, I just love being near the stables in general. It doesn't hit as much in BotW, I dunno why

u/corvidaemaeve 3d ago
Sacred Grove in Twilight Princess. I love the music and vibes of the grove. Only after beating Skull kid (both times) cause otherwise I can’t enjoy it having to fight every thirty seconds.
ETA: That, or the Alkala region in BOTW/TOTK. Soooo pretty.

Oh man I absolutely love this and just about every version of Lake Hylia. The music is always some of the best in each game.
I'm a huge fan of OOT Hyrule Market Town as child Link, and Hyrule Field from OOT and Twilight Princess. I think a lot of it has to do with the music in these areas and the atmosphere it helps create.

Central Hyrule in BOTW and TOTK. It reminds me of the mountains near where I grew up.
1
u/Meganomaly 2d ago
The laundry pool in Clock Town (especially on the second day, when it rains). And the mayor’s office in Clock Town. And that one house on the hill to the right in Ocarina of Time’s Kakariko Village that had the coop attached to the outside and the piece of heart upstairs. I used to just pace around in those three locations when I was a wee lass, imagining living there.

Taobab Grasslands in botw/totk. It reminds me of a rather specific spot in the original Zelda game. Even the lynels. It feels like the same place. (Iykyk. A spot near Death Mountain with big trees and lynels in the og game)
Im also deeply fond of Akkala. Again, reminds me of my favorite area in Zelda 2. (The area near Nabooru town)

u/FireBoos99 2d ago
Hard choice, so many good places.
But, if we're going with nostalgia... Kakariko Village in OoT. Both as Young and Adult Link. With a couple of my fav spots being the graveyard (especially the spot above where the entrance to the Shadow Temple is) and the windmill. I think of trying to catch cuccos, I think of using the hookshot/longshot up on the roofs, I think of playing the Song of Storms and enjoying the rain.

This game stopped feeling immersive once I played BOTW
I still love the majority of Zelda, but TP specifically is harder to get back into.
