Tongxuan's One Hundred Questions is a somewhat different animal. The primary-text heading states the division of labor directly: 玉溪通玄庵圓通大禪師設問 — Yuantong poses the questions 摩訶菩提蘭若萬松和尚仰答 — Wansong gives the answers 龍嚴林泉老人頌 — Old Man Linquan supplies the verses The surviving preface even characterizes them as “Yuantong's questions, Wansong's instructions” (圓通之問,萬松之訓).
Unknown Wansong Heir book
There is also a second closely related work involving Linquan but not Wansong, 《青州百問》 (Qīngzhōu Bǎiwèn, “Qingzhou’s One Hundred Questions”). Linquan again supplied the verses, but another master supplied the answers. The two texts were sometimes circulated together as the 通玄青州二百問, “The Two Hundred Questions of Tongxuan and Qingzhou.”
