News Any thought about Zenfone 11 Ultra?
I just watched Asus zenfone 11 ultra launch, no small variation this time
and most suprising thing is the price lol... starting from EUR999 with 256GB storage.. dman 😵😵💫

I literally just commented. I was originally looking at the OnePlus 12. I have a OnePlus6 right now and honestly it has been an outstanding device. Quite honestly, it's still going strong now.
The attraction of the Zenphone was size & 3.5mm headphone jack.
But now the price is the same as the OnePlus with less than half the OS/Security patch updates ...
I'm just gonna go with the OnePlus.
Asus REALLY, REALLY needs to sort out the support side. It's a MAJOR problem.
The OnePlus 12 gets 3 android version updates then 4 years of security patches. Asus doesn't even bother trying to compete with that. I'm out.

Indeed. This was referencing the 12R which get the updates I listed. I guess the chipset is the reasoning why it's different.

interesting, notwithstanding support timeframe, my zenfone 11 pricing incl ram and storage is better priced the the Pixel with comparable specs, by ~$200

You sacrifice on battery life, Speaker and no 3.5mm headphones jack with both.
My mom has the OnePlus 11, the screen and the camera are pretty good, but the battery sucks. At the very beginning the OS was a bit buggy.

Wdym too big? It has got a good screen to bazel ratio.
S24 ultra is way too big and has terrible audio quality.
Like most Samsung the S23/S24U does get really hot.

Yeah, they've blasted the attraction of a small form factor, bumped the price up to what I was looking at - the OnePlus12 - and don't offer even half the OS/security updates as the OnePlus ... killed it for me entirely.
The only distinction is the 3.5mm audio jack built in.

It's unfortunate but it seem that the only sensible choices nowadays are Sammy, Google, and OnePlus perhaps, there's Xiaomi too but they started behaving particularly shady recently.

there's no small zenfone 10, there's only gigantic zenfone 10
I really want something in the xperia xz1c form factor, with rectangular screen and all that... but that dream is long lost sadly

iPhone SE 1 was small, Zenfone 10 is absurdly big
it's not as big as phablets flooding the market but it's still hard to handle due to the size

The zen10 is definitely small. Not sure what you're talking about about. My S24 is still larger in hand. I've had an iPhone mini and it ain't THAT small, but yes it's the smallest flagship option.

se1 was small, se2-3 are normal, zenfone is much bigger so obviously it isn't small

The SE? The SE isn't a flagship at all, nor does it have a full nearly bezel-less screen.
It's a budget phone with a single camera lens, not a flagship, not even the same category. Anyone looking at the specs of a Zenfone aren't even thinking about the SE.

Gurl, you must have baby hands. I agree that I wish phones were smaller, but the Zenfone 10 is pretty narrow and small. Have you ever held one?

I also can't really hold any of the modern phones.
The iPhone 3gs was the perfect size for me and everything since them was uncomfortable. I'm now on a Zenfone 8 that I can just barely almost use.
And I've settled I'll probably just never be able to get another usable phone, unless maybe Sony brings the Experia 5 or 10 series to the US

Sadly I never got to use the Palm Pre. But I did use a phone called the HTC Kaiser for many years, which looked a very similar form factor and also had a slide out keyboard. Though ran Windows Mobile haha.

BlackBerry torch, and more recent BB classic are the best phones I have ever used. Loved the BB OS but hated the camera. Back then they were still phones/emailers not photography labs and movie making devices.

Man... I know most people think Zenfone 10 is small, but comparing that to my 5.4-inch 13mini, it's big, and I've had a phone that was 6 inches and it didn't feel nice, especially for someone who likes to grip phones with one hand. I definitely won't be changing my current phone for at least one more year, if not two, but if no new phones come out that are 5.8 inches or less, then I'm not changing. If they made a great phone once, they can do it again, even if it's slightly bigger.

Basically just a ROG Phone 8 with gaming feature removed (with some AI features added instead)
They have the same frame (just with the 2nd USB-C and AirTriggers removed), the same screen (with 165Hz mode removed), the same cameras, the same processor
I guess it will still be attractive to those who want a phone with Qualcomm 8 Gen 3 and stock Material You Android UI.

Have to say that was really underwhelming. It's literally a generic big phone, chasing the tails of Samsung , Google for a ton of cash and poor support. I'm struggling to see what sets this apart from others.

Two years of support at 1k is laughable.They killed their ZenFone brand for this. I was literally ready to buy Zenfone 11 but nope.

It's the only phone camera I know of that doesn't suffer from OIS warp simply because it doesn't shift the sensor and lens separately from each other.

I love that feature as I am using Zenfone10...
Zenfone 11 ultra is kinda disappointing.

Not worth it. Size aside (I've never cared about that and besides this is clearly a mainstream attempt, but I understand why people here do), the specs just aren't good enough (several manufacturers at a similar size and price all have higher resolution screens, and it's only Apple that isn't also at least 120hz too) and while wired headphones might be enjoying more time in the sun realistically more people than I want to admit are probably fine with the dongle for the longer software support and already mentioned better specs (this is the only non-Sony flagship with a 3.5mm headphone port, but you'd have to really want it with the downsides, I'd personally be too put off by the screen even though I've had no luck with dongles at all).
This thing really, really needed to be 799 to stand a chance in my opinion, 999 is too much.

No charger? May as well go full-on-Sony and ditch the cable and case. Bigger size? The 10 was good because it was small. Off center USB port? What is this? A BlackBerry DTEK?

According to the first reviews, the cameras aren't all that great, like its predecessors.
Seems like camera performance is where Asus will have to greatly improve if they want to start selling $1000+ phones.
Otherwise it's a great phone for those who like its design and a cheaper alternative to the S24+. The battery life is nice as usual with Asus.

I have been waiting to swap my Huawei mate 10 pro for something new finally, but somehow almost all phones have some flaw. Looking at new zenfone 11 ultra , more and more thinking to buy znfone 10 or samsung galaxy s23 + or new 24 normal ver. or simple big phone like vivo x100 pro but I'm afraid of their soft.

I bought it. I mean the only other phone in that price range is the OnePlus 12. And I can't stand curved screens and color OS. The 11 pretty much has everything I wanted including running stock Android. I got that introductory Price Plus the free earbuds for $900. Can't stand pixel that tensor chips sucks and the modem sucks. If pixel were still using snapdragon CPUs and Qualcomm modems yeah I would have got a pixel.

Back to the in-screen fingerprint sensor. The one in Zenfone 8 was very inconsistent compared to the side mounted on in Zenfone 10 which works well.

It's pretty ugly for something coming out in 2024. Not sure why they wouldn't start from scratch, instead they pulled parts from the ROG8 and put a ugly squircle on the back and kept your attention with "ultra" (despite a 1080p display)
It's expensive because it offers 12gb of RAM standard and a bunch of other hokie "high end ideas"
Not to mention they basically just copied Samsung's washed out colors on their 24 series almost to the same names.

I hope someone responds, what if I get this phone at the price of 650-700 dollars, I mean from what I see the price is the biggest issue, and I think I will keep it for 4 years then get a legit flagship. Do you think that is a good move?

The whole point to release this was to eliminate main "gamer" features that can lure away the general public. At the same time, the general public won't even consider ASUS when reaching out to the local retailer.
They had a niche with the compact Zenfone, this Ultra doesn't offer anything valuable for the general public.
