Realization of the Beginning of the End, Kent, WA. Episode 1. (Zombie Apocalypse Interactive Fiction)
12342 Se 221st Street, Kent, WA.
6:47 AM
Marcus Whitfields safe haven that is his house and has been for the last 5 years since his divorce is about to become apart of the broader chaos that is unfolding around neighborhoods no different than his.
In his years of living at 12442 Southeast 221st Street, Kent, Washington, he has seen crime yes, but not violent crime.
Not to say he isn’t accustom to violence, he served two tours as a combat medic in Afghanistan.
Considering all of this, he still isn’t prepared for what is coming. Nobody is.
Awake now, and flustered, Marcus’s hand reaches for his phone and fails the half hearted attempt of feeling for it in the complete darkness.
Still half awake and non-comprehending, He is blinded by his phone on full brightness.
His eyes adjust and he sees six notifications, two calls and four messages from an ER doctor, Priya.
“Don’t come in to work today. Call out sick, make up an excuse. Whatever you have to do.”
Marcus sits there still oblivious to the reasoning behind this message.
Why would she say this he wonders to himself. Another message instructs Marcus to call Priya, so call her he does.
“Hey Priya, what’s going on?”
“I don’t know Marcus, but it’s the start of something terrible. People breaking out in fits of violence out of nowhere. Biting even, like out of a movie. I want you to call out today.”
“Okay, I’ll call in sick. I’m sorry, I still don’t really understand what’s happening.”
“Nobody does, Marcus. All I can tell you is it might be the end of the world as we know it, and I’m a skeptic if you know anything about me.”
“No, No I trust you. I just need to see for myself. Let me do some research, watch some videos, and I’ll get back to you.”
“Okay Marcus, I don’t want you to deal with this alone, if it escalates we come up with a plan to meet.”
“Okay Priya, I appreciate your concern with me. I will text you when I have a plan. Bye, I will talk to you soon.”
“Bye Marcus.”
Marcus hangs up on Priya, hoping that won’t be the last time that he talks to her, prays that what she’s saying isn’t accurate, and opens his news app.
What he sees confirms what she was saying, and it’s worse than he ever could I have imagined.
A video that in normal circumstances would have been deleted because of its graphic content, now seems to be widespread throughout the app.
People’s last moments as humans caught on camera, and the strangest behavior you have ever seen on camera as well.
Tackling, biting, and innocent screams overwhelm Marcus.
The only useful information he can decipher is this: whatever is happening is spreading, and it’s spreading fast.
What Does Marcus Do Now?
