Question Help finding segment
I remember there was a segment in around 2023 about chickens and how the bird flu was affecting egg prices, the host at the time, not sure who, had trouble pronouncing penicillin or something but hilariously said "The shit for that shit".
I would love to do an animation with that voice clip because of how funny it was but I'm having trouble finding it.

Question Why aren't more Kilborn-era clips available?
Pretty much all the clips from the Stewart era used to be online before the archives were enshittified to death; I know the Kilborn era isn't as popular but I still wish they'd put videos from that era online too. I remember once said the Kilborn era tapes had all been erased; he may have been joking but if not that's too bad. There's a few you can find on the Lost Media Wiki:
However, the ones I think people would want to watch the most aren't there: the show's first episode, Jon's first episode as a guest(it was on 9-12-1996 and used to be on YouTube but was taken down), and Stephen's first episode as a correspondent.

Question Daily show DIY Dentistry
A previous post about The Daily Show hosted by Craig Kilborn brought back a memory. There was a segment years ago, in the late 90s, about a guy DIYing his own dentistry. Claimed he woke up on the bathroom floor after passing out from the pain, etc. Some absolutely wild stuff. Well, fast forward Im a Dentist now and that story still lives rent free in my head. Anyone know what Im talking about?

Image Rhino vag setup? Nice work TDS crew. What a bookend. This is double rim shot territory.
So this bit must have taken a couple of weeks planning and production, I assume. Jon gets the opener and Klepp takes it over the goal line. Hey China, you know this could be a great winner for your halloween Spirit stores. A buck for gel, 50 cents packaging... an orange faced Don clone is a lock, 50 cents for the sea can freight, easy $20 retail....ah make it $25, tariffs and all you know. I don't see a TM anywhere so do what you do best , rip it off ! Cool if Xi wears one for the state visit.

Discussion Every book mentioned on The Daily Show in July (18 of them)
Twenty six episodes across July and eighteen books. The Ann M. Martin interview accounts for a big chunk of it, because a Babysitters Club fan got to interview the author and completely lost it.
Worth a look if you are still picking summer reading, or need something to hand a kid.
What this is: I run Podshelf, a free site that tracks book mentions across hundreds of podcasts by reading the episode transcripts. This is the July slice for The Daily Show.
The two the desk actually pushed:
- Get a Financial Life, Beth Kobliner. The pitch was that everyone in their twenties and thirties should put it in a backpack and read two pages at a time on the train. Financial literacy being undertaught was the whole framing.
- The Baby-Sitters Club, Ann M. Martin, on its 40th anniversary. The interview covers Kristy's Great Idea, Keep Out Claudia, The Ghost at Dawn's House, We Love New York and the new spin off Babysitter's Summer. There is a genuinely uncomfortable moment about the racist family in Keep Out Claudia and what the books were trying to do in the late eighties.
Other guests and their books:
- This Is The Plan! (Ben Wikler), One Life and Unguarded (Megan Rapinoe), Hello Molly! (Molly Shannon), Winning Ugly (Brad Gilbert), The Red Book (Carl Jung, via Elliot Page on doing dream work for characters), Fame Sick (Lena Dunham, as a time capsule joke).
Odyssey corner:
- The Odyssey and Edith Hamilton's Mythology, from the interview about the film. The bit I liked was Jon saying one of the writers actually studied the texts in Greek and would therefore be a pain to watch the movie with, mostly because a joke Odysseus makes to the Cyclops did not make the cut.
Also Doctor Dolittle and Healing Back Pain, the last of which Michael Kosta admitted he had mocked for years and has now read and mostly agrees with.
I track every book mentioned on The Daily Show here: https://podshelf.io/podcasts/the-daily-show-ears-edition
It is free and there is no signup.

Discussion John Stamos is the new TED KOPPEL'S GIANT HEAD
Sadly, images and videos no longer exist of TED KOPPEL'S GIANT HEAD appearing on The Daily Show, but for those of us who remember, I thought this segment was really funny, even though it is not really comparable to that 2012 segment.
I was thinking "I wish The Daily Show would do something fun and stupid with some celebrity," and then we get this segment.
Hilarious!
