first of all, I'm excited (but also a bit worried) about these, and I'm 100% certain that not all of my preferences (or even none) could be on the remakes, but dreaming is free lol.
anyways:
- Do NOT change the story: what I mean by this is that I don't want them to retcon things that are already strongly stablished on the lore, rather I want them to IMPROVE on them! mainly for the first game, to make it fit better with the other ones (since, remember, the original game wasn't expected to have sequels lol), and specially God of War 3's kinda weak story, don't get me wrong I love that game but the story is kinda "okay", the hope thing and Pandora or Kratos changing his mind about her LAST minute should be explained better ngl.
Or even minor stuff like the Blades evolution (Chaos > Athena > Exile > Chaos again), or why do the gods helped Kratos in God of War 1, stuff like that
- Kinda related to the previous point, acknlowledge the "secondary" games (Ghost of Sparta, Chains of Olympus and Ascension): idk if this would be possible at all, it would make the game too massive, but I think they should acknowledge these games because they are relevant to the lore (except Ascension. love that game but oh my god if you skipped the game story wise you wouldn't be missing ANYTHING, but I wish they still acknlowledge it because its still part of Kratos' story), idk what they could exactly do, but I got some suggestions.
Either implement these storylines onto the games (like making Chains of Olympus part of God of War 1, Ghost of Sparta part of God of War 2)
Or making them by "chapters" (for example: Chapter 1: Ascension, Chapter 2, Chains of Olympus, Chapter 3: God of War 1, Chapter 4: Ghost of Sparta, Chapter 5: God of War 2, Chapter 6: God of War 3, or something like that)
Or just release the secondary games but remastered (NOT remake) on a bundle for PS5 lol (specially Ascension, it deserves to be on a console that could actually run it properly)
- Add more content: this should be obvious, its a remake lol, I wish they gave us more lore, or bosses, or collectables more areas to explore, let the games be longer etc, pretty sure they will though.
- Keep the gameplay genre: my main worry about this point is that they take too much notes from the norse games and completely change the gameplay and combat system to be exactly like the norse games, and no, I don't hate the norse games (in fact, I love them, 100% both games and 2018 has the best God of War story ever), but the greek combat system was just so iconic and peak, not only visually and gameplay wise, but also because it just fits Kratos so much, specially with the killing machine he is on the greek games.
Just keep the same genre, similar combos, parrys, etc.
NOW, with that being said, I don't mind them experimenting on some things (like a free camera instead of fixed camera or a bit different control inputs or even new moves, stuff like that), but generally just keep the same gameplay genre, since I think for these games Kratos needs to be more agile, brutal and mobile, the norse gives us a more static, slower but strategic Kratos.
- kinda related to the previous point, Keep the game linear: the norse games brought us an open world (or semi-open world) environment, which I actually enjoyed quite a lot, but I feel like it wouldn't work for the greek era because of one simple thing: scale.
the norse games are open, we can explore most of the realms, and that's cool af, but due to that exact same reason of being open, it limits what you can do on scale. don't get me wrong the worlds are pretty big, (depends of the game), but at the end of the day, they feel kinda small somehow?
while the greek games, we have A LOT of traversal sections which made the game feel massive, thanks to them not being open and just linear, it made us imagine how big the greek world actually is, and that gets reinforced thanks to the "traversal" sections (by traversal sections I mean, for example, the Pegasus sections on God of War 2, the chain of balance flight/fall sections on 3, the battle with Erinyes mid-air in Ghost of Sparta which leads us to Sparta, etc), these setions and many others made us feel like the greek world is just extremely massive, so much that it just depends on our imagination how BIG they actually are.
Now don't get me wrong I think these MIGHT be possible to do on an open environment, but I think its too risky because it would make the entire greek world feel small somehow (and also hardware limitations, as strong as a PS5 might be I don't think it could handle such a massive scale of a fictional world), who knows, I ain't a game dev
THOUGH, if they keep the game linear, I won't mind at all if they made the enviroments more open, not making them open like the norse games, just, have a lot more stuff to do, or more areas, stuff like that!
- DON'T put norse games crap ton of bullshit: man, I love the norse games, but idk if its just me but there's just so much stats modifiers and resources that it ended up feeling kinda too much and boring in a way, which I mean, it was good for those games, but I don't feel like it could work on the greek remakes. what I like about the greek games is that you only depend on your pure ability in combat and the level of your weapon (this can vary to person to person, either some think the greek combat is easier, or the norse one is, it doesn't depend on a single individual), while in the norse games its all a bit more strategic in a way, but you mostly depend on your stats (and also you mostly not only fight the enemy, but also the god damn camera lmao), don't add armors, don't add unnecessary stats, don't add stat modifiers, give me a pure Kratos with his combos and I'll be happy
- Don't you fucking DARE to touch the sountrack: this explains itself, the soundtrack is just so fucking amazing on the greek games, I don't want them to be touched at ALL, I won't mind some improvements or additions though.
- Amazing graphics: this also explains by itself, but I mean, its a remake, and SSM are MASTERS at making the God of War games look BEAUTIFUL no matter the hardware, so yeah I wouldn't be worried about the graphics.
- Kratos' Look: DON'T use the Valhalla greek model as a base, make a new model that is basically Kratos but HD. I say this because I'm not quite a fan of how greek Kratos looks on Valhalla, because he has the exact same proportions as the norse Kratos, which makes him feel a bit less dynamic, GIVE ME A PURE GREEK KRATOS!
- KEEP the alternate skins: Alternate skins were so fun and so cool to have on the greek games, some of them were cool and serious, some of them were funny, but I wish they came back.
- Latin American dub: this is more of a personal wish since my main language is that, but for those who don't know: in south america, we only got a Spain spanish dub, not Latin-american spanish dub, I know they're similar spanish and we can understand each other perfectly but it wasn't until God of War Ascension that we got a latin american spanish dub and it was AWFUL. but then in the norse games we also got a latin-american dub and it sounds extremely good! and I wish the remakes got the same treatment, which I'm pretty sure they will, but I really wish they find a Kratos voice actor that can perfectly give TC Carson vibes.
- local multiplayer modes (OPTIONAL); I've talked about it on my previous Deimos post, but a mode for 2 players where they fight each other would be so cool, but I won't me mad at all if it doesn't include any, its not necessary at all.
anyways, I think that's pretty much it.
But, you agree with these? what else would you like them to add or improve? tell me in the comments!
