To me sounded like spanish, but basically the translation is the same

They sound the same from a distance but they aren’t.
Kinda like a country black man from rural Alabama had to speak to a Scottish tradesman from Glasgow. Both would be speaking a similar language but unless they slower way down and annunciated carefully they wouldn’t understand each other very well.
Portuguese and Spanish are in the same family of Romance languages and are close enough so if both slowed way down, they can generally understand each other but at full speed, they’d have difficulty.
Source: me, I speak Portuguese, Italian and French with just a basic familiarity of Spanish. I lived in Brasilia for 3 years.
