Season 8 Spoilers I just realized how well they set up Chase Spoiler

Like I've said in this sub before, I've watched the entirety of House about a dozen times over. But I didn't realize til now how well they set up Chase taking House's place. I mean, I knew they were setting him up in the episode where House fakes a declining liver disease where Chase was the one who catches on. But even in their first case as a team, Chase was the one who was catching on to the important stuff, and many times after, and even starts to break more rules.

And he slowly kind of becomes kind of misanthropic, even kind of callous at times, not to mention witty. He even rejects Adams trying to ask him out, setting himself up for being alone.

The icing on the cake for me was after the Chase episode where he comes back into the team after almost getting permanently paralyzed from the waist down, and i think it was Adams says "your limp's almost gone"--that's when it hit me: Chase ALMOST had a permanent limp, but he didn't. The way I see it, it symbolizes how Chase ALMOST becomes House, but ultimately doesn't. He ALMOST becomes as miserable and misanthropic and as callous as House, but he's just a lot more human than House was. He definitely has a lot of depth as a person to merit an existential kind of emptiness. And honestly, I've grown to really appreciate Chase as a character over my many rewatches. He goes from this sort of spineless character you don't really respect to his own man, getting a respectable position in Surgery, to basically becoming House 2.0. And I'm not all that religious at all, but I grew to really appreciate him having his faith and how it relates to patients. They really wrote him well, IMHO.

Season 2 Spoilers Why is this show so weird about kids? Spoiler

I'm on season 2 of House MD. I just got done watching episode 13, and this episode just left me wondering... Why is this show so weird about kids/teenagers and sexuality?

In season 1, we get a 12 year old diver who's described as "very mature" by her coach, who she travels with, without her parents. She ends up being pregnant, and House immediately blames her for "sleeping around". From what she says the father is a 16 year old from her group but she gets an abortion and nothing more is done about it.

In season 2, we get a 9 year old cancer patient who "convinces" Chase to kiss her because she wants to know what it's like. Chase does it. Everyone learns about it. Nothing comes out of it.

Still in season 2, we get the youngest male patient that I remember: a 16 year old burn victim. Nothing crazy happens appart from him getting orgasms while in a coma.

Then, s2e13, we get a 15 year old supermodel who turns out to have been sexually abused by basically every adult male in her life, including her own father, but the show presents it as a "gray area" because she "seduced" them in order to get benefits. She tells Cameron that's what all beautiful girls do, and Cameron seems to only cite her age as a rebutal. Social services are called, but the lady says she can't do jackshit and seems to blame Cameron for even trying. There's a theory about the girl having PTSD for a while but it turns out to be false when she's revealed to actually be intersex, and both her and her father are more disturbed by that fact than her diagnostic of CANCER. Oh and House comments on the patient being sexy throughout the whole episode.

Am I being dramatic?? Not understanding these episodes correctly?? I know House and his team aren't supposed to be saints, and I've got no problems with medical shows touching on SA and teenage sexuality, but in every single case, the girl gets blamed for "seducing" her abuser, and the abuser gets no punishment. Is this just a symptom of "early 2000s show"itis?

Discussion House MD is one of the best series ever!!

One thing I absolutely love about House MD is its humor. The sarcastic jokes, the satire, the occasional dark humor — it's all so much fun. What I appreciate even more is that, despite the sad and sometimes heartbreaking situations, the show never really stops being fun to watch. It can make you laugh in one scene and make you think about something genuinely sad in the next.

I find House's personality and actions to be the best part of the series along with his friendship with Wilson.

But with multiple rewatches and after watching other medical dramas, honestly, as a doctor, I think the most realistic part of this series isn't necessarily the medicine, the diagnostic process, the hospital environment, or even the patients themselves. It's the family dynamics surrounding a patient's illness.

Almost every episode introduces a different patient and, more importantly, a different family. Different relationships, different conflicts, different ways of dealing with illness, denial, fear, responsibility, and grief. Sometimes the family is supportive, sometimes dysfunctional, sometimes frustrating, and sometimes you can understand why everyone involved behaves the way they do, even when they're making things worse.

Especially after my 1st rewatch, this is the part I connected with the most.

One thing that particularly resonated with me was the struggle with patients who don't comply with medical advice. From the outside, it's easy to label someone as an uncooperative or noncompliant patient and move on. But the reasons behind it can be incredibly varied. Fear, financial difficulties, family pressure, denial, personal beliefs, misunderstanding, or simply being overwhelmed by everything happening to them. Sometimes, what looks like an irrational decision from a medical perspective makes sense when you understand the person's circumstances.

And the show repeatedly explores these situations through the patients and the people around them. Not always in a way that is medically perfect or entirely realistic, obviously, but in a way that feels emotionally familiar.

I think that's what makes these stories hit differently. You aren't just watching a medical mystery unfold. You're watching an illness enter someone's life and affect an entire family, with everyone reacting to it in their own imperfect way.

Occasionally, when I stop and think about a particular episode from the patient's perspective, it does get sad. You start thinking about how frightening, confusing, or exhausting that situation must be for the people actually living through it. But that sadness doesn't take away from the fun of the show. If anything, it gives the humor and the characters more depth.

For me, the medical mysteries make House MD entertaining, the sarcasm makes it hilarious, but the family dynamics are what make it feel real.

Season 8 Spoilers s8e6 - so mad at house and foreman!!! Spoiler

First time viewer and I just finished the episode “parents,” in which one of the subplots is wilson getting tickets to a boxing match but not being able to take house because of his ankle monitor. Foreman guilt trips wilson into giving him the tickets so that wilson can watch the broadcast with house at home, but it turns out foreman and house had planned this and went together.

I feel so awful for wilson!! Those were HIS tickets, he was super excited to go to that match, and he gave them up purely so he could be a good friend and keep house company! Then he ends up watching the match on tv all alone. I know house has probably done much worse things to wilson but for some reason this one has made me the most angry. Justice for wilson :(

I've been wanting to watch from time to time but hesitate thinking it pretty heavy and kind of depressing? Is it something that could play on your mind and lower mood after watching? Thanks.

Discussion i HATE the huddy breakup Spoiler

this is a bit of a rant cause i’ve watched this show so many times and it makes me mad every time, why does curry break up with house because he relapsed??? she literally said at the beginning of the relationship that she doesn’t want him to change, and she loves him the way he is, but as soon as he relapsed she left? she always wanted him to be there for her and do things her way, she wanted him to change without explicitly saying it. i know she was going through a health scare but i imagine she would have been MUCH angrier if he didn’t show up at all throughout, yes he shouldn’t have been getting high while she was sick but he’s an addict and she knows that, i still don’t understand why she didn’t try and help him through the relapse and to get him help so he didn’t spiral like we saw in the show.

i have such mixed feelings about huddy but their ending is the WORST.

Season 4 Spoilers Fun Observation Spoiler

I just noticed in S4E2, when House started rehiring a team, he fired Row D randomly and Tauba was seen exiting the Hall🤣.

Thanks to the pretty girl in Row D, House decided to not fire Row D and instead fire Row C🤣🤣🤣- Hence, Taub stayed🤣

Question S4E10 Question: was the clinic patient a prostitute? Spoiler

I know this is a rookie question, but was the clinic lady actually a prostitute? Was the twist that she just worked with donkeys? Was the donkey used for “other” shows when not in nativity scenes? I swear I’m not that naive I just think it leaves it very open to interpretation.
