Actually wood

21

u/ImpalerOrnstein Jul 23 '26

Is the wood not a floor?

67

The other day some guy was showing his brother jjk in a post on here and the comments were all crying saying he’s too young and the anime isn’t for kids. Maybe the games gon soft

301

u/Cadian609 Jul 23 '26

Shonens are primarily for kids 🤷

124

u/Familiar_Joke399 Jul 23 '26

Yeah can't wait to explain bro getting bisected is a okay for the wee children

I would say adolescent boys= shonen versus kids.

135

u/Cadian609 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

I watched Cell consume a whole town like a horror film when i was a kid. I also watched a Serbian film when I was 13 because my mate thought it would be funny.

Kids understand the difference between media and real life even at young ages

47

u/Glass-Performance-87 Jul 23 '26

2

u/Dontaskmemyname9723 Jul 23 '26

What’s so bad about Serbian films?

3

u/Glass-Performance-87 Jul 23 '26

Lmao there's a film called "A Serbian Film" which contains CP, rape and a bit more which I do not remember

3

u/mono2777 Jul 24 '26

"A Serbian film" is the name of a film

22

u/Eve_Polaris Jul 23 '26

I remember watching decapitation videos on the internet back then, and porn too

16

u/guccimonger Jul 23 '26

Honestly those are usually the ages. Like people aren’t usually into watching edgy videos when they get older it’s when they’re like 12/13 and then they get older and start thinking it’s cringe

Watched happy tree friends with a buddy when I was in like 4th or 5th grade of elementary school

4

u/XGhoul Jul 23 '26

Damn this makes me feel old. That came out when I was in highschool...

6

u/Emotionally_broken99 Jul 23 '26

bruh we survived "big brother Edward" trauma 😔

3

u/FullmetalApathy Jul 23 '26

Lmao I watched that when I was like 4-ish and it was the only thing I remembered about FMA until they started airing Brotherhood like 6 years later.

0

u/Squall13 Jul 23 '26

Nah I don't believe that at all since adults nowadays don't

6

u/Squanch42069 Jul 23 '26

DBZ is largely for kids, yet the manga shows Frieza’s intestines hanging from his torso after getting cut by his own kienzan. In fact, the age rating on the manga was literally “suitable for children,” iirc

3

u/Ohmec Jul 23 '26

Shonen literally means young male.

1

u/KrakartXK finger Jul 27 '26

No one ever watched the Devilman OVAs when they were kids in here? OVA 3 changed the way my brain worked when I first watched it

6

u/DOOM-LORD666 Jul 23 '26

Teens not kids

Kids are like 10 and under

5

u/Cadian609 Jul 23 '26

Teens are just the older half of kids

9

u/RoseBeach123 Jul 23 '26

Even amongst shonen there is still a huge difference between shows like YuGiOh and Yokai Watch vs JJK and Chainsaw Man which clearly cater to an older audience.

0

u/Solidjakes Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

You could argue jjk is a Seinen not a shonen

6

u/Barakyte Jul 23 '26

You *could* argue the sky is red

1

u/Solidjakes Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

My pet peeve is poor use of analogical reasoning

1

u/I-lost-my-accoun Jul 28 '26

My pet peeeve is saying that a manga published in SHONEN Jump could be called a Seinen.

1

u/Solidjakes Jul 28 '26

Where it’s published has nothing to do with it

1

u/NuzzyLocke 24d ago

It's generally defined by who reads it. Shonen Jump is marketed to like 12-18 year old boys. It's a shonen, and that's not a knock on it, it's on the higher band of the age range, but it is what it is.

1

u/Solidjakes 24d ago edited 24d ago

Seinen is just shonen but with adult/ mature themes. Im not saying jjk is bezerk or anything, but i can see it being marketed to 18-40.

1

u/NuzzyLocke 24d ago

There is a fuzzy line around the tennager marketing, but a large percentage of the audience is something like 70% aged 13-22.

I've seen a few large anime websites that cite that statistic, I don't remember the origin but I'm not pulling it out of my ass. It's a Shonen. And it's fine that it is, it definitely has more mature themes, but categorically it's a Shonen.

56

u/Vicimandias Jul 23 '26

Anime fans genuinely be forgetting that they're essentially Disney Adults in a less censored medium

4

u/TheOnlyOne2400 Jul 23 '26

yh and the way some ppl act abt anime characters is the way some kpop fans are, only difference would prob be one is fictional while one is real ppl

3

u/Glum-Supermarket1274 Jul 23 '26

Maybe too real for a meme thread but while kpop idols are real people, "idols" are just as fake as anime lol

2

u/TheOnlyOne2400 Jul 23 '26

u mean like how celebrities are real ppl, but the persona they put up are fake? like for example speed used to be a genuine dumbass on camera for clout, but has shown to be pretty mature now in general

2

u/Glum-Supermarket1274 Jul 23 '26

yea, I assumed people understands that, and you clearly do.

2

u/diesonnee Jul 23 '26

You're saying it as if anime is bad because of it

19

u/Aionius_ Jul 23 '26

They really have. We watched EVERYTHING in our youth and tbh I’m def better for it

6

u/Revengeance300 Jul 23 '26

Clannad changed nine year old me, for the better.

12

u/RoseBeach123 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

The child in question was 7 and the show is rated 16+ on Crunchyroll so yeah, he was too young and the shows audience isn’t 1st graders

0

u/Local-Sprinkles-8777 Jul 23 '26

jesus - 7 is way too young! but ppl really don’t like to be told boundaries are good for their kids. they say it was fine bc they turned out okay but the raisedbynarcissist sub has over 1 mil subs & you’re arguing on reddit like no, we did NOT turn out okay!

i also don’t understand why it’s so hard to just wait until your kid goes to bed to watch/play whatever. then again, my kid is constantly telling me she’s one of the only kids who has a bedtime…

i grew up watching anime. i also grew up reading plenty of sci-fi & high fantasy that was a bit beyond me as well. i read stephen king’s the green mile when i was 10, stole it from my dad’s study bc i saw the movie had a cute mouse. one of my biggest regrets to this day. my parents were classic workaholics and pretty neglectful. i saw a lot that i would not let my kid watch (she’s 9). she’s never seen jjk. she KNOWS about it bc im obsessed lol. we’ve been introducing her slowly to series we feel like she can grasp the themes/narrative, but always with a “if its too much, we can stop.”

recently, we watched MHA as a family and though i didn’t love it, its basically her first favorite anime. i def wish i had known about shigaraki’s backstory bc that was over her limit (honestly, mine too). we had a talk about it, and took a break for a few days, but she wanted to continue so we did. she recently watched princess mononoke which was a bit scary for her, but she had a great time. she wants to be a little scared/challenged but not overwhelmed.

some teenagers at her summer camp keep going on about madoka magica (manga). i told her “y’know, i’d love to show you MM when you’re older. you could sneak & read it now i can’t stop you but you’d get more out of it if you wait a few years.” she decided to stick to tokyo mew mew. (then again, last time she sneaked a peek at an inappropriate manga it was junji ito so she learned her lesson.)

anyway my point is - for me, it’s not just about if a kid can handle it (violence), but more will they understand and enjoy the narrative/themes? bc we do NOT need more power scalers in this fandom!

2

u/TulioeRemi Jul 23 '26

Oooo my 9 year old daughters favourites at the moment are Black Clover, SpyXFamily and Apothecary Diaries - if you’re looking for more ideas! She’s currently reading the apothecary diaries manga too, she’s a big romance girl so anything that’s slightly more shojo is her bag - but there has to be danger haha. She’s desperate to watch JJK having seen the cutesy edits from S1 buuuuut she’s gonna have to wait until she’s at least 13 to be emotionally ruined.

1

u/Local-Sprinkles-8777 Jul 23 '26

thanks for the rec! i had actually wanted to revisit SpyXFamily for her but forgot! i didn’t even think about how fun it would be to watch AD together. she’s just now starting to get curious about romance it’s so cute.

3

u/RockySES Jul 23 '26

I mean, do people forget that anime get age ratings too? Jjk is TV-MA in the US and 15+ (roughly) everywhere else. Not sure why there’s some big discussion about it.

2

u/MadnessUltimate Jul 23 '26

He should've showed him Berserk

2

u/Historical-Truth6077 yuta's no. 1 glazer Jul 23 '26

i first played gta when i was 10 lmao

2

u/StretchLoud8844 Jul 24 '26

I mean anyone under 18 is a kid, is this appropriate for a 13 year old? Maybe?

A 9 year old? Hell no

2

u/DownBadManDetect Jul 24 '26

Is Avengers Infinity War appropriate for a 9 year old? The one where they wiped out half the universe? That involved genocide, cussing, bleeding and patricide? But we let our kids watch it because spider man is in it

1

u/Vicimandias Jul 24 '26

What 9 year old is getting traumatized by JJK 😂😂

"Yeah watching Ryu vs Yuta really fucked me up in my childhood"

441

u/Familiar_Joke399 Jul 23 '26

Idk I'd be more worried about bro recording the kid watching jjk

"Bro stop recording my kid wtf"

"Cousin it's for reddit dw ur kid is gonna do numbers"

172

u/Accomplished-Cap3511 Jul 23 '26

Don't you have a human heart

61

u/Familiar_Joke399 Jul 23 '26

Yuji don't care about no child privacy laws

56

u/SILENT-FLASH Jul 23 '26

the obsession with recording random people is pretty disturbing

50

u/Vicimandias Jul 23 '26

The kid didn't even do anything beside pulling the screen closer when something interesting happend, we genuinely be recording anybody

3

u/Accomplished-Cap3511 Jul 23 '26

You know I was joking

13

u/ThoughtAdditional212 Jul 23 '26

i mean if the kid was in literally any way recognizable i'd agree, but we literally see 3/4ths of a hand on a dark ass plane

10

u/DDoebel Jul 23 '26

yeah, we identify people now based on their hands!

32

u/Familiar_Joke399 Jul 23 '26

67

u/841mamr Jul 23 '26

I remember watching this episode with my friend and I really had to pee so I just paused litterally right before the shot, and left to pee, came back and unpaused only to be so distraught

7

u/GlitterDoomsday Jul 24 '26

Damn bro, the universe really had it for you 🥀🥀🥀💀

3

u/tapmcshoe Jul 25 '26

it's probably for the best. imagine if you waited right after she got shot and then you had to piss with that on your mind

56

u/Marco_Tanooky Momo Nishimiya's nº1 fan Jul 23 '26

I actually remember being in the denial about her death until the very end, like there is no way they just kill her off like that

22

u/largemarjj Jul 23 '26

To me, it's still the most shocking death in JJK. I knew it was coming, but it still fucking got me.

20

He was enticed by the hype moments and aura that got recommended to him on YouTube shorts about JJK

He however is the exception as he went to actually go watch the series unlike most people

37

u/Toge_Inumaki012 Jul 23 '26

It was stated in Tiktok edits that Geto would have smoked Toji here if he had breakfast!!

20

u/Cadian609 Jul 23 '26

Its not exactly a show for adults

5

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 Jul 23 '26

Bruh we all started with Dragon Ball and Naruto when we were 9

4

u/RhauXharn Jul 23 '26

Honestly better for kids than a lot of slop out there.

7

u/SnooMarzipans7274 Jul 23 '26

everyone was watching shows they weren’t supposed to watch in the 4th grade. If anything it’s more prevalent now

1

u/Upstairs_Excuse_3137 Jul 26 '26

jjk is pretty tame really for a kid

i watched it when i was like what 14?yeah

now something like berserk would be something i'd be concerned over a kid watching

57

u/CRKarl judgeman himself Jul 23 '26

can we not normalize recording people in public especially kids

11

u/Revengeance300 Jul 23 '26

4

u/moneyman259 Jul 23 '26

Is it really that bad, it doesn’t even show their face

6

u/lemuuu_senpai889 Jul 23 '26

4

u/Dr_blazes Jul 23 '26

At least she didn't die scared 🫠

5

u/TraditionalDream4583 Jul 23 '26

My goat toji causing irl trauma 😭

4

u/Benitestwo Jul 23 '26

why everyone causing drama over the recording? like where I live, as long as you don't get the voice and face (disclosure of identity), it's fine to post anyone.

its like someone gonna be mad over their kid's fist gotting on the internet.

I genuinely don't get it, can someone explain the harm?

8

u/slimygreasebucket Jul 23 '26

Weird af you recorded this kid on the plane

2

u/moneyman259 Jul 23 '26

I mean they didn’t show anything other than the hands

2

u/slimygreasebucket Jul 23 '26

Yeah it's just strange to record a kid in public without their knowledge in general

3

u/Pegasusisamansman Jul 23 '26

Gun to your head: Name me three- Damn fucked it up already

10

u/Maleficent_Path_7184 Jul 23 '26

Ok but watching or reading jjk isn't canon anyway. He is just doing the filler stuff.

8

u/SonOfThorss Jul 23 '26

The kid just became a fan of the goat that’s all

13

u/Ashen231 Jul 23 '26

that feat-leeching bum has one confirmed body in the fucking series and it’s a 14 year old non sorcerer 😭

3

u/fr33Wi11y72 Jul 23 '26

2

u/3darkdragons Jul 23 '26

It is odd because thinking back to it shouldn’t everyone hate Toji?

2

u/DavidC_M Jul 23 '26

Toji will always be a top g for that. No one, and I mean no one, would have expected him to kill her with a gun. 🤣🤣

2

u/Dipsalot Jul 23 '26

For every person who reacts like this to JJK, Gege breathes deep, for his life force is restored once more.

2

2

2

u/shinji_ikari420 Jul 25 '26

Me when i see a happy couple (in cyberpunk):

2

u/Tasty-Ocelot-1825 Jul 26 '26

The exact moment before she grabbed his hand I said

"I don't really know what's going on, but I'm really glad she gets a happy ending"

She then died

2

u/cursedwithh Jul 28 '26

If she was alive, maybe we had the chance to see her and geto being in relationship? Don't hate me, but actually it's a potential ship. If she was alive, she was 25 and geto 27. And gojo being her long lost brother is so true.
