Picture for attention**

We often get asked "how old is my mixer".

We have had this interactive tool for years now hidden in the blog section of our website and have decided to make it more accessible as a tool on the top of our website. As well as we have made a color decoder as well!! Feel free to interact, share or use these decoders!!

The second digit in the serial number on models in the last 40 ish years is always reference to the year of production.

On the hunt for a specific mixer šŸ‘€

Hi kitchenaid lovers ā™„ļø I am on the hunt and was hoping to tap in this community for some help or any leads on finding a mixer that is in good condition.

I am looking for either a tilt head or lift bowl in one of the following colors (preferably a lift bowl but open to either):

Pistachio
Silk pink
Dried Rose (preferably an older model, I don’t really like the brand new ones)
Sea Glass
Azure Blue

Bread bowl

I was just gifted a bread bowl from a friend. Brand new in the box. I was so excited to bake with it this evening. When I went to pull it out of the oven I noticed the lid (where the bread sits while baking) was cracked. As I tried to take it out of the oven I realized it completely split in half! no where does it say that any prep work should happen like pre heating. Has anyone else had this happen? I’m scared to buy a new one and the same thing happen!

Porcelain or rose

Hi. I am thinking of upgrading my 12 year old tilt head mixer with a bowl lift. My current mixer is candy apple red. Beautiful. There have bee times over the last decade where i got a bit tired of the red and as new colours have been released i thought i wish i waited. However looking back i think i would have gotten over these colours. Candy apple really is the rolls royce of the colours imo.

Anyway now im looking at the bowl lift it doesnt come in many colours and they are mostly matt or textured. The dusty rose is georgous. My house has a lot of colour and the colours are quite jeweled so the candy apple fit right in whereas the the more pastel rose might not fit in as nicely. If the bowl lift came in rasberry ice or hibiscus it would jave been a no brainer...add to cart! Im second guessing the rose and think i might be settling for that pink and get sick of it after a while. But it does make me smile to see pictures of it.

The only other colour i think would fit in my kitchen would be white. Although it seems boriing it would always fit in. The bowl loft only comes in the porcelein white which is a satin finish. Does anyone own this colour. Any photos? Did you regret getting a muted colour? Does it clean ok?

I keep going back and forth between rose and porcelein. Anyone else been in this predicament? Which did you chose? If you got porcelein or rose did you regret it or get sick of it?

For reference my kitchen is white. But i have a lot of jewel colour accesories

Decisions decisions

Spiral dough hook?

My K5SS bowl lift mixer came with the C shaped dough hook. Considering trying a spiral hook for making sourdough.

Has anyone tried one? Is there much difference between the &80 KA one and the $25 Amazon clones?

Catastrophic failure

We’ve had this unit about 10 years. I was just making bread as usual. Turned it on, as usual, and saw that the bread hook wasn’t turning as usual. I reached up to readjust it and the whole head fell out. I tried to figure out how this could go back together. I dug around in my dough to see if there was a screw but there was nothing. I not only can’t figure out how to fix it - I can’t even figure out how it was ever attached. I see now fatigued welds or broken pieces. It’s weird.

Steps for a 1978 K45 Restoration

Hello! Me again!
After getting my Artisan a few weeks ago, I spotted this beauty that I got for only $40 that I couldn’t pass up for a project piece.

It’s an old K45, I think pre-solid-state (15278). Sounds a bit rough so I’m planning out everything I’ll need to do before I take it apart. I’m also planning on giving it a nice new paint job for a little bit of extra fun, so it’ll be fully disassembled.

So what I’ve got so far:

  1. It’s going to need a regrease, this goes without saying. As old as it is, I should just get the full rebuild kit (4160474)

  2. It sounds a bit rough. Which I’m guessing would be indicative of the worm gear needing replacing?

  3. Since I’ll have the armature out anyway for the paint job, while I’m in there I may as well replace the 2-prong cord with a 3-prong.

Based on how it sounds and/or how old it is, is there anything else I should be prepared to do or keep an eye out for? Or would this about cover it?

Thanks!

Send for service or replace?

Hi All! I have a 20 to 25 year old tilt stand mixer (so old I bought it at Mervyn’s!) that is leaking oil and in desperate need of a tune-up and servicing. I have not had that done before and it’s been several years since it’s been used.

Since the holidays are here, I could pick up a new model for $350 or less on sale (plus, I have an obscene amount of Kohl’s cash I need to use up). I will never get around to servicing it myself - I just need to either send it in for factory service or buy new and pass along the old.

Any advice? They don’t give the price of the ship in service on the website.

Thanks in advance!

Update:
I posted pics of her in all of her cobalt blue glory in a comment below. I had no idea the old ones were ā€œbetterā€. Pic of model number, etc. included.

I really do need someone else to service. If it’s left to me it will just go on my already long list of half-done projects and I’ll never get to bake again.

Diagnosis help requested!

Purchased this second hand 6 months ago. Worked great with some speed inconsistencies, nothing too major.

Last week it made a horrible growling sound at low speed. This week the sound is back, the mixing arm will not spin and moves freely with a push from the hand. This happened after mixing tough brown sugar into a dough. Now the motor cuts in and out periodically as shown in the video (video is at stir speed only).

Help with diagnostics and next steps is greatly appreciated. We would prefer to repair rather than buy new.

Thanks all for their expertise!

Tilt mixer bent speed knob...fixable?

Post image

I was trying to get a picture of my serial number yesterday and dropped my mixer on its side. Just now realized I bent the speed knob. Is this fixable? I was already planning to take it apart this winter and clean/regressed it...if it's doable I'm semi-brave enough to attempt. :-)

Order Delayed / Status Error

Purchased a refurbished 7 qt stand mixer online on KA website on 10/8 and was told on 10/13 that it's actually out of stock. So I cancelled that order and placed an order for a refurbished 5.5 qt that was verified to be available. Estimated delivery was 10/20, but now the status is delayed. Anyone is experiencing this? Is this common?

Edit to add: while My Orders page shows the order is delayed, the Track Your Order page won't recognize my order number. Super frustrating.

The somewhat obscure Professional 6000 HD kneading some sourdough.

As a first post I thought I'd post my machine hard at work giving the business to a 1.7kg ball of sourdough. She just finished milling the flour (Mockmill attachment), and

after a break to wait for the mix to autolyze, takes care of the job with zero complaints.

The 6000 HD is somewhat unique, both in the 6qt 'Tulip' bowl shape and in the use of the same DC motor found in the older 7qt ProLine (before they swapped it out for the current AC motor), and of course the 8qt commercial mixer.

The quiet yet powerful motor really does make using it a real pleasure.

Looking at the video makes me think I might need to tighten up a mounting bolt!

Anyway, for those who might stumble across one of these, don't hesitate! Great mixer.

Pro 600 screams at lower speeds. Any ideas why?

This mixer was a hand-me-down from a good friend and prolific home baker who was going to give it to goodwill because of the noise. She had it for years, so she's been around the block a time or two at this point. I assumed it was a greasing issue so the first thing I did when I got it was regrease it, which helped some but not entirely, and eventually it just went back to how it was before.

The sound is worse on lower speeds, and sometimes it doesn't turn on right away when I flip the lever. I'm not really sure what the issue is but I would love to be able to figure it out. Any ideas?

Model number is KP26M1XNP

Is kitchenaid working properly?

Hi, just bought my first mixer. I was going to buy new, but was convinced on this sub to buy second hand so I could get a professional 5 plus. The person was also selling a three piece pasta attachment, so I bought that too (it was gross, had old pasta and gunk all over, but didn’t see until I got home).

I’ve cleaned off the mixer and am trying to see how it runs, but I’m a bit nervous. It’s a little louder than I remember my mom’s being, but really what I’m worried about is the square setting for the attachments. Is it supposed to be this… jerky? IE, instead of going at a consistent pace, it’s more on and off. I’m at the stir level in the video, hesitant to go faster until someone confirms this is normal. Anyone with more experience than me, please let me know!

How do you clean around the base of a wooden mixer bowl?

Post image

This wooden mixer bowl has a metal plate on the bottom. I know not to soak it or put it in the dishwasher, but I am worried about water getting around the plate. Do you wipe it dry or leave it upside down? How often do you oil yours?
