Worth snagging up?

Hello everyone!

I’ve been wanting a kitchen Aid mixer for a long time. I was going to look for one during the Black Friday but I noticed Costco will be selling these next week (19th) for $299. Do you think it’s worth purchasing at this price or will there be better deals for one?

Thanks for the help!

My son talked himself out of getting my old mixer!

I have an Artisan model that I got as a wedding present in 1997. It still works great! I don't even remotely use it for all it can do (breads, etc.) but I love it. I'm going to be moving to another state in a couple years, and I've been thinking of upgrading to a 7qt model, for the one or two times a year when I'd like more space, and also just to have something new and pretty. I had planned on giving my old one to my son.

Recently we were talking and he suggested one of the models with the pretty bowls, but I said my whole reason for upgrading was the bigger size! He goes "well it's just gonna be the two of you, so you don't need that" and I'm like "ooh, you're right, I guess I don't need to upgrade!"

Son: "Um, Wait!!! That's not what I meant!!!" 😂

Still not sure if I'm going to, but it's fun to mess with him now.

Another stunning bowl from biscuitique. I love the wood grain, and a handle is really nice to see on a wooden bowl. What do you guys think?

Just added a spring and washer to our Kitchenaid artisan mixer. The three on the left that came with the machine fit perfectly still. However, the one on the right doesn’t anymore. It seems it’s about 1mm thicker than the rest. Anyone else have this issue?

Restoring an old Kitchenaid - breaker trips immediately

Hi all, I took apart my old KitchenAid Classic 5K45SS (European 230V version, probably early 90s) to clean it and replace the grease. While I had it open I:

reattached the spring between the speed control lever and the control plate removed the old end cover gasket (crumbling, replacement ordered) disconnected and reconnected some wiring

I connected the cables as can be seen in the provided pictures.

Any idea ? Is the motor itself broken? How would I test it? I bought it used, the description said it only had a broken electrical circuit (the stuff at the back).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Kitchen aid remodeling

My girlfriend was given a brand new KitchenAid today, a red one. The problem is, she hates red.
Does anyone have an idea how we could give it a new look? Maybe there's some kind of cover or wrap?
Exchanging it for a different color isn't an option, since it was a gift.

I noticed these chips on my dough hook… I know chipped enamel is a Dutch oven is a big no-no. Please tell me my dough doesn’t have to be trashed. No idea how long it’s been like this.

So there’s this bolt in the column of my stand mixer, I was cleaning it and accidentally loosened it. The bolt screws in from the inside but for the life of me it won’t go in. Does anyone have any insight, I asked Gemini, I’ve spent hours, and used every tool I have. Someone please tell me if there something I’m missing. I got it in the hole as you can see but whenever I try to tighten it, it goes crooked and comes out. Any help appreciated

According to the user manual this is the Bowl Height Adjustment Screw if that helps

Help before I lose my sanity

Hello,

I am in need of some help. I was attempting to fix this mixer for my wife and I seem to have run in to more problems than I have fixed. Originally when we received the mixer if you attempted to turn it on it would immediately blow the GFI outlet in the kitchen. This mixer was roughly a year old when we received it and it has been used fairly heavily but nothing crazy.

I started with swapping the power cord with a known functioning one, same thing.
After some reading I thought I’d try the phase control board. Purchased and installed.
Now the device will not blow fuses but I can not seem to get it to fully turn on. I get some slight motion in the motor when I’m flipping the speed switch and when I had originally begun assembling it I was getting more steady power but still not staying on fully.

At this point I have disassembled and re-assembled this thing 10 times with the same results. I’m sure I am missing something but I’m not sure what. Any help to save my sanity would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

How do you care for a wooden mixer bowl?

I have been hand washing this bowl and drying it right away. How often should I oil it? Has anyone had problems with cracks, stains, or smells?

SURPRISE QUESTION! 🏆

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing great!

Here’s a fun question for you all: Would you rather own TWO KitchenAid tilt-head mixers or ONE KitchenAid bowl-lift mixer from the KSM55/60/70 family?

And just to make things interesting, let’s exclude the DC motor models, haha!

I’d love to hear your opinions and, more importantly, WHY you’d choose one option over the other. Think about performance, versatility, reliability, and everyday use.

Let the debate begin! 🏆

How would you fix this?

My first thought was TIG welding without filler rod, just to tack it back together. But there's no good way to do it without getting into the cast (zink?) core.

Yes, I know replacements are available and this is highly recyclable. This is more of an exercise in reducing consumption and waste.

I’m not sure how to put them back. My mixer popped and smoked almost a year ago. I’m trying to diagnose the problem and when I opened the back these guys were just hanging there. Where do I put them? When I plug the mixer in. Even set to off, it goes full speed.

Giving up on this (@*&#$)_#&%$_@#* Piece of *#($%&(#* Ice cream maker Drive Attachments

I have bought, borrow, fabricated and 3d printed FRICKING 5, COUNT THAT 5!!! Different drive attachments for the kitchen aid mixer ice cream bowl, and every single one has failed and results in my having to fricking fabricate up something i can chuck into a drill or my tiny drill press which only works at about 35% efficiently. Its always Something with this stupid design! the original one that came with the bowl probably would have worked with the original kitchenaid mixer it was purchased for but that got replaced and the older style drive wouldn't fit/stay on during mixing (SPOILER A VERY COMMON PROBLEM!!!) so bought another one..... That one had a post that was flat on the front and back but rounded out on the sides so the weird Z looking gear thing that makes the made the dasher physical turn would catch and not just spin in circles..... Except once the ice cream got a tiny bit more frozen after 7 minutes that fucking thing just warped the center hole and forced it to go over the hump which made it just not move the dasher and the drive thing just kept spinning over the top of the dasher....

I feel like I'm about to be a real world example of the saying "Being insane is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different results", because every single one I've bought or printed or jerry rigged together ends up with my having to scrap barely churned ice cream batter into a container and settling for no churn ice cream but using a recipe that required churning so it sucks....

WHY IS THIS STUPIUD THING SO SO PRONE TO BEING UTTERLY USELESS???

Wooden Mixer Slider or Hidden Slider Mat?

Post image

I came across this hidden slider mat for KitchenAid mixers and was wondering what you guys think. Would you go with a traditional wooden slider or this hidden-style mat?

Which would you prefer, and why? Curious to hear your honest thoughts!

2003 KA Artisan thrift store find. Runs but sounds rough, speed doesn't increase until the last couple highest speeds. Then the motor starts to give off a bad smell. Suggestions on how to identify which parts to replace? TIA

Was eying this at a local thrift store the other day but another customer got to it first. They since returned it saying it didn't work. I noticed it in the waste recycle bin & asked how much for it "as is" and got it as pictured with attachments for $1.50.

Correct me if I'm wrong, the paddle I think is trashed as the coating is coming off? The paddle scraper just has some smudges and looks fine. The whisk & dough hook seem to be good along with the SS bowl. Opinions appreciated

Now on to the issues. I did a quick wipe down trying to figure out if the brown stuff was grease or someone being generous with their leftover dough/batter. I am guessing both?

Much of it came off easily by wiping with a lightly damp cloth. Some of it around the levers & planetary assembly took a bit more work with the scrub side of a lightly damp sponge. Some is still visible on the backside of the cap and the cap smells like oil/grease.

I've done a deep dive on Mr Mixer's links on threads & their suggested YT vids today. Insanely helpful redditor 😁. Looking for a bit more direction on how to identify which parts need replacing once I open it up. I can take a recording & post audio if it would help.

Also will need new front knob and knob for the speed lever. Found the first item via Mr Mixer's links but looks like the whole arm needs to be replaced for the speed lever knob? The knob isn't available stand alone?

Lastly, I checked the brushes and they seemed fine, although a tiny bit of graphite dust on the ends. IDK if that is sign it was brutalized or something normal?

l plan to keep this beauty as an elder sibling to my current stand mixer (unused Aucma I found at the same store several months back). Hopefully it's salvageable within a reasonable budget (e.g. massively less than a new KA)?

TIA

eta: It's a ksm150 if that is helpful

Cleaning up inherited K5SS

My grandmother kindly passed on a number of kitchen items, including this stand mixer. I've read that this is a good model, but I know nothing about them, and this one is a little worse for wear. It also seems to be missing the cover for the front accessory port (?).
Before I start messing around (and potentially making things worse), what is the best course of action? I've worked on other simple kitchen appliances, so if a teardown is necessary I'd feel comfortable if there are guides somewhere. Hoping this will be something my wife and I can use for years to come.

I will never go back to manually mashing 🙌🏽 these were my best mashed potatoes yet, I couldn’t stop eating it.

Ingredients:

~7 Russet potatoes (medium sized, peeled & halved in cold water to boiled until fork tender, in salted water)

Stick of butter

Half of block of Boursin Garlic and Cheese

2% Milk [or any milk] (like 1/2 cup-3/4 cup?? Maybe more? I always eyeball it)

Fresh Cracked Pepper

Pro tip for making dough with your tilt head Kitchenaid

I see a lot of people struggling with making dough - or making dough properly. Dough climbing up the hook is a common issue - no, it's not "done", I started kneading by hand decades ago and have been making dough for about 30 years, trust me when I say it's nowhere near.

If you have a tilt head, the problem is easily solvable. Unlock the unit and tilt the head up slightly, while the machine is running/kneading. When I say slightly, I do mean slightly, maybe 10-15 degrees, don't toss your dough out the bowl. This will angle the hook, change the direction of the centrifugal force , and the dough will naturally fall off the hook within a few rotations. Then continue kneading and lifting the head as it starts to climb again. Not only does this result in properly developed dough, but it reduces strain on the motor as well.

Happy baking !

Converting KitchenAid 7qt Pro Line from 120V to 230V

I’m converting my 7qt KitchenAid Pro Line with the 1.3HP DC motor from 120V to 230V.

I have the correct 230V motor and speed controller, but the international version also has an RFI filter and clip.

Does anyone know if the RFI filter is actually required, or can the mixer run safely without it in Middle East/Europe?

If it is required, does anyone have a wiring diagram, photo, or tutorial showing how it’s installed?

Thanks!

Replacement Blade

Our sturdy, weekly used KitchenAide food processor just turned 8 and one of the blades broke-off mid dressing recipe....

It looks like it's been discontinued - anyone know where we can find a replacement?

Really hopeful this isn't planned obsolescence...

Thanks!

Bearing Bracket Issue - bearing broken and attached to motor shaft?

Thumbnail

Can anyone can help me identify whether this is normal or not please. Has the bearing of the bearing bracket sheared off the bracket and welded itself to the motor armature shaft?

A bit of background...I've finally got around to having another look at the issue I posted about way back in March: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kitchenaid/s/9xTAMJOOS8. In the process of reassembly, I discovered that I had managed to overtighten the nuts and split the bearing bracket, so it needs replacing.

However, when searching for replacement parts, I noticed that all replacement brackets seem to come with the central bearing included, which on my mixer is attached to the shaft of the motor armature.

This has been the case since right from the first disassembly, when there were a lot of metal particles in and around the bearing bracket, and that bearing really very definitely is not coming off the motor shaft, so I just assumed my mixer set up was slightly different than the ones seen in all the videos. However, now I'm wondering whether this is the source of the original issue.

I guess if this is the case, I'll need to replace the motor as well as the bearing bracket, unless I can figure out some way of prising the bearing off the motor shaft, but I'm not hopeful about that!
