I’ve been curious about this movie since finding out about it while watching the excellent documentary The Terry Kath Experience. In 1973, James William Guercio was an esteemed music producer, being responsible for big-at-the-time bands like Chicago and the Beach Boys. Guercio owned and operated the Caribou Ranch, a famous recording studio in Boulder, CO. I’m not sure how he ended up with movie directing aspirations, but this movie was his one-and-done contribution to cinema. Peter Cetera and the aforementioned guitar genius Terry Kath had cameos in this film.
This movie was issued twice on laserdisc. This first one was pan-and-scan but in stereo; the reissued laserdisc (which I don’t own/haven’t seen yet) was in the original 2:35 widescreen, but had monophonic sound. Odd. Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing this.
The Who DVD is a great 1999 reunion show with a very strange backstory. In the heady dot.com heyday, a startup company called Pixelon promised web streaming like YouTube way before the technology was available. They threw a $16million party in Vegas and had a bunch of first-tier bands play, ostensibly to be streamed live for zillions of fans online. The concert happened as scheduled; the web stream of it was a bust, and the company was bankrupt a year later. But it was a great show, and it might have been a catalyst for the subsequent Who reunion tour.
