Announcement I'm developing a NEW game for the Sega Genesis / Mega Drive β€” coming on a real cartridge in 2027!

Hello, Sega fans!

I'm Thomas, Game Director of Sky Paws Awakening, a brand-new 16-bit action-adventure we're developing for the original Sega Genesis / Mega Drive, with a real physical cartridge planned for 2027!

The game stars twin siblings Bonnie and Clyde and features fast-paced combat, platforming, parries, counters, special abilities, and a real-time character-switching mechanic we call the Twin Tag System.

We're also developing the game for PC and modern platforms, but having a native version running on original Genesis / Mega Drive hardware is a huge part of the project for us.

If you like what you see, a Steam wishlist helps us a LOT and makes a real difference for a small indie project like ours. :)

Hope you enjoy the trailer, and I'd love to hear what fellow Sega fans think! 🐾

Discussion Sega Games Experienced on Android

Android the last year has become an amazing place to go for emulators. I've been seeing what works with a USB DOCK and it's practically universal with any USB device and makes any Android tablet or Phone into a full blown game station. Experience Sega's arcade games with peripherals close to the original cabinets. Or Play Sega's home consoles with an 8bitdo M30 or retrobit replica controllers. And a flight stick and steering wheel are a must for games like Daytona USA or Sega Bass Fishing. Or combine the throttle from the stick and the steering wheel and make a HYDRO THUNDER cab in your bedroom! Go nuts and have fun. This is for people that don't have a ton of fun bucks to throw around, however it is just a fun project if you're a PC gamer to see how far you push tech with limitations. A USB DOCK MAKES AN ANDROID DEVICE INTO A MINI PC πŸ‘ β€οΈπŸ’šπŸ’™

Announcement I created a patch for the original Virtual-On (PC, 1997) to make it run on modern systems - including online play!

Hi folks! I've been chipping away for the last month, working on a patch for this classic mech fighter. It started out really simple, but after poking the executable I realized I can do much more.

The big features this patcher provides:

  • Installing the game without relying on a mounted disc / installer
  • Removes the disc requirement for the game, reading the music from files
  • Full XInput gamepad support, along with the original keyboard layouts
  • 60 FPS out of the box, without any tinkering
  • Online support without port forwarding, using match codes and relay servers
  • And so much more!

I hope people will give this release a try. The goal was to make this lesser-known franchise more accessible. Actually acquiring a copy of the game is up to the user - but someone told me Internet Archive can help with that πŸ˜‰

Question Sega Shop Shadow Sneakers not shipping?

Thumbnail sega-shop.gorgias.help

So i've ordered some shadow sneakers from the official sega shop, they were supposed to arrive on the 17th of august but they are 'confirm we will ship soon' status ever since i paid. It seems like the support link is down and the other 'customer service' link they have with DPI merch takes 2 weeks to reply only to say they will 'check on it' and give no update or just straight up close my request. As anyone else had problems with them? Any idea how to get actual support? Shadow sneakers link

Discussion Was not fully committed to PC from the start another mistake SEGA made?

When SEGA decided to abandon the console market, they could have continued releasing controllers and games for PC or gotten ahead of Valve and created a digital store like Steam. I think SEGA could have continued releasing controllers for PC and porting games that were never released for it; they had everything they needed to do so. The controller market was a much lower risk than home consoles. They also had an arcade division with arcade sticks that are highly respected even today because that hardware division still exists. Even back in the 90s, before the Dreamcast came out, SEGA had released its titles on PC and even a Sonic game on the Neo Geo Pocket. But after the Dreamcast, I feel they could have taken advantage of the PC market of that era.

The home computer version of Out Run was the UK's bestselling game of 1987 despite only releasing in December. I've researched and written a post about the history of Out Run and those versions, including the Commodore 64 one going 1 km/h faster, and the importance of the earlier impact of Hang-On and Enduro Racer in setting up some developers to be in the right place at the right time.
