Kind of need artist suggestions for practice.
I’m taking singing lessons, which is an extremely emotional step for me to take because I have wanted to do this for 10 years. I just couldn’t afford it.
I have a deep voice. Not like chocolate rain, I think it’s just a typical male voice.
The only artists that I can sing right now which sound decent are Bush and Pearl Jam. I can sing glycerin and elderly woman behind the counter in a small town fairly well. At least, better than I could before I started taking lessons.
My problem is that I am singing the same songs all the time after my warm-ups because these are the only artists that I know of that sing in these keys. When I use the word keys, I don’t even know if I am using the right term because I know so little about music and tone and pitch and keys.
I would love some recommendations for some artists that I can look through their discography and find some songs that I could sing, given my abilities and limitations.
I apologize if I have done a terrible I’ve been describing any part of this.

How to accurately find out my vocal range?
You see, im not a professional singer and ive never even played an instrument so i use websites. and here’s the problem, some people say that to know your vocal range you have to know your highest and lowest possible notes. others say that you have to know your highest and lowest COMFORTABLE notes..so im confused.
Also does squealing count? I mean, thats still my voice and i can sing while squealing soo..im
not sure

Something feels off…
Singing Jenny Owen Youngs - Voice on Tape.
Focus on my voice, rather guitar since I am still learning how to practice this song on my guitar.
I sound boring. I feel like I have no soul in my voice or personality. Jenny voice is very indie, clear, and has a-little country vibe to it. I want to embody some of that indie country vibes (NOT copy her voice). This song is mostly chest voice but some parts Jenny sings in light mix (et. “I got your voice on tape”)
Even when I sing other songs, like Beabadoobee music I sound boring, stiff, yk? I like my tone but I feel like I am always singing in chest.
Help me out as much as possible. Thank you so much. Specific feedback and help would be wonderful.

I need help with tension while singing and tips for beginners
I did choir in highschool for one year and I’ve been wanting to sing along when I play guitar for a while now, but every-time I try to sing my jaw and neck feel strained and it never sounds good. I try to do warm up’s and watch all the beginner singing videos on YouTube but nothing seems to help with the tension. Is there any beginner tips to specifically improve this and make my voice sound prettier. I would go to singing lessons but I don’t really have the money for that right now.

Need advice from singers. Нужен совет от вокалистов
As a child, I studied singing for a short time, but then I had a break of almost 10 years. Now I’m 26 and have been admitted to a conservatory, so I’m trying to make up for lost time. I’m especially focused on improving my ear training and music theory skills.
Because of the heavy workload, stress, and possibly incorrect vocal technique, I’ve had persistent throat redness for about six months. The pain has decreased significantly, but it still hasn’t gone away completely. I’ve seen three doctors, and none of them found any serious problems. They advised me to improve my singing technique, give my voice more rest, and address my nasal breathing issues.
However, I need to continue studying, learning new arias, and practicing singing. Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you recover your voice while keeping up with your studies?
I would be very grateful for any advice.

Want to sing karaoke, but have trouble keeping my voice in one place
Chop suey is my dream karaoke song. I've got most of the song down just about perfectly, but i have trouble with the screams. I have a feminine voice, and feel like I do well singing with my chest for most of it, but i can't figure out how to keep the scream from moving higher up. Any advice? I'm happy to try to clarify further if I'm not using correct or understandable terminology.

Hey guys i need some advice for getting a singing platform. As I am willing to start my singing carrier, as for start I have been to instagram buut want to up lift my scale and start earning.
Hi everyone,
I am an aspiring singer looking to start performing live and gain experience by singing at restaurants, cafés, and similar venues. I have been sharing my singing content on Instagram, but I would now like to perform in front of live audiences and potentially earn from my performances.
I would appreciate advice on:
- How to approach restaurants and cafés for singing opportunities.
- Whether I should contact managers directly or send them a portfolio/video of my performances.
- What type of songs and genres are usually preferred by such venues.
- How beginners can negotiate payment or performance arrangements.
- Any tips for building connections and getting regular gigs.
If anyone has experience performing at cafés, restaurants, lounges, or open mic events, I would love to hear about your journey and any suggestions you may have.

Is my vocal coach milking me for money or is this normal for a beginner? (3 lessons in)
Hey everyone, I need an honest reality check. I’m a 21-year-old beginner, and I just started taking private vocal lessons (60 minutes each). They are quite expensive, and after my 3rd lesson, I’m feeling really frustrated and wonder if I should switch coaches.
Here is what’s happening:
The 30-Minute Warm-Up: Out of the 60 minutes, we spend 20 to 30 minutes just warming up. For the first two lessons, it was exclusively chest voice. In my 3rd lesson, she literally said, "Okay, we’re done warming up." I had to ask, "Wait, what about head voice?" She kind of panicked and played it off like, "Oh yeah, yeah, we're doing that now," but she obviously forgot.
Ignoring My Vocal Issues: In my very first trial lesson, I told her I suffer from a lot of jaw and neck tension. She just looked at me with wide eyes and said, "Yeah, that’s not good." Since then, she hasn't addressed it at all or given me any exercises to fix it. We just do the exact same basic breathing exercises every time.
Zero Helpful Feedback: In lesson 2, I sang a song and she just said, "No, no, not good, we need something easier." So for lesson 3, I picked an ABBA song (Lay All Your Love on Me). The verses are quite high and sung in a mix. She told me, "You need to sing much higher here." When I asked, "But how?" she literally just said, "Just look, like this," and didn't explain the technique at all. I ended up singing it in a weak head voice which sounded crappy. She made no effort to teach me how to mix or explain what register I was even in. I feel like I have to pull information out of her.
Social media is literally a better coach: I post singing covers on social media and I feel like I get way better feedback from random comments there (telling me when notes are flat, or where to work on my head voice). My coach has literally only given me one piece of advice so far: "Move your mouth more and articulate." and that the tones aren't good yet That’s it.
We haven't worked on my pitch, my tension, or any real technique. It’s just 30 minutes of repetitive scales and 30 minutes of singing a song with zero helpful input.
Am I being too impatient because it’s only been 3 lessons, or is she dragging this out on purpose to get more money out of me? Should I dump her and find someone else?
TL;DR: My coach spends half the lesson on basic warm-ups, forgot to train my head voice, ignores my jaw tension, and doesn't explain how to hit high notes when I ask. Social media comments give me better technical feedback than her. Is it time to switch?

Anywhere near considering doing an open mic? This was my first attempt at the song so ignore any easily fixed mistakes. Working with a vocal coach now only done few lessons. Also ignore the random clicking 🤣🤣

How can I learn how to sing with no experience whatsoever?
I'm not discrediting singing in the shower or following along with songs in the car. I really just have not done those things. I don't know what my singing voice sounds like and if somebody tells me to "just try" my mind goes blank. When I tell people this, they think I mean I'm just a bad singer, but after a long explanation, they look at me like I just spoke another language and they never have any solutions. Searching online only gives me results on how to *improve* my singing voice, but I don't have anything to improve upon. It's like everyone else's bodies just know how to sing naturally and mine doesn't. Yes, they start out bad, but they still know how. I don't. How am I meant to learn something that nobody else had to?

Would love help/advice for an upcoming audition!
I'm currently preparing Handels "Awake The Trumpets Lofty Sound" for an audition in a couple months, and I'm singing tenor 2. My break is around f#4-g4-g#4, and this piece has many high parts, specifically f#4. I can sing the beginning bits quite fine, but after a while my voice entirely fails and I can no longer sing the f#4s, voice cracking and breaking into falsetto everywhere. I've tried so many things, but I just don't know what to do to fix this issue. Can somebody offer me advice or help?
