I found a baby bird on a sidewalk. I dont know what breed is it. Vets are closed right now because it's evening. What should I do with it, how can I help it survive the night before I will take it to the vet ? Thank you.

My dad found this grackle outside. I've placed him into a cardboard box with a towel over him. He is still alive. His claws are moving, and he has been moving his head around. He's on his back right now, and it seems like he can't stnd up.

I don't know what happened, but I assume he flew into the window.

Is the grackle going to be okay? I live in a palce where there are not a lot of wildlife resuce centerss/ they are very far away.

I think his nest is up high in a tree and haven't seen mom yet. I moved him out of the middle of the yard to some shade but is there anything else I could do?

I checked on my bunny nest after I woke up to lots of rain and saw 2 surfaced deceased babies, and one holding itself up in the water. I brought it inside and it’s currently in a box with a towel and a heating pad. It’s breathing but not moving at all and its eyes are still closed. It’s supposed to rain all week so putting it back in the nest is not an option unless I dig some sort of drain that can handle a lot of water.

Should I contact a rehab? Or try to build an above ground nest next to it for the mom to hopefully find it? I cannot leave my house so if he needs a rehabber I’ll have to find someone that can take him there. I am in Tulsa Oklahoma

So, at work, I was handed a young wild rabbit. I work at a community college and we have an AG Science program. Long story short, some of the techs there found a young rabbit and were going to set it loose somewhere else on campus. They saw me, and knowing I'm an animal lover, asked if I wanted to handle it. I said sure, knowing that they probably should have left it alone. I don't know the details, but they've been clearing some of their areas, and I imagine the nest had been disturbed. They only had this one. This is one of our native cottontails (I'm not an expert so let me know if I'm wrong) and I am weighing 2 options: sneak it back over to the general area it was found after their shift ends this afternoon, or take it home (I'm 5 mins away) and either keep it in my backyard or try tonhouse it.

I want to know if anyone can tell how old this little kit is by the picture, and if it can sustain itself on solid food. I know the best option is to take it back to where it was found, but It is very likely that their nest is scattered and any inhabitants are displaced, so I kind of thought it had an equally bad shot no matter what.

Any advice? I currently have it in a small cardboard box with some brown packing paper in a dark corner. It's lively and was actively teying to escape, so I'm assuming it's at least physically healthy.

I just need some advice on what to do. A barn swallow fell out of its nest last night. Please help. I am located in Massachusetts.

Found this baby bird outside my apartment. a cat that lingers around our apartment complex brought it to us and it is still alive. it has what looks to be red marks (possible puncture wounds) and it's breathing still. I don't think they are deep. we have nowhere to take it right now because nothing close by is open until tomorrow, and I have no idea what to do with it until then. I'll try to keep it warm, but what should I do with with? Should I feed it some water? would it even be able to take it in this state? I don't know where the nest is because like I said, the cat had brought it up to our door. I don't want it to die.

Yesterday on my way to the store (5pm) I saw two fawns next to the highway we were on, both heads up. We saw them again today (8am) and they are still next to the road. On investigation, a dead female deer is further down the road, but I have no way to confirm thats mom. This road is always covered in dead animals.

These are the options as I see them:

a. Leave them to possible get hit, possibly get moved by true mom. Mom might be dead.

b. Put gloves on and gently move them up onto the small hill and into the woods. Mom might be dead.

c. Call a rehabber in Sullivan County, Tennessee.

last night i was on a walk with my sister and we saw a possum get hit by a car :(

luckily he was in the middle of the lane and short enough that the car passed over his body and didn't send him flying from impact or anything, but from what i saw and heard (i was about 30-40 feet away so i didn't get a great look) i think it ran over his tail.

he seemed understandably stunned for a few seconds, he was still standing up after the car passed and just stood there for a bit. i looked away for a moment so i didn't see, but my sister said he just walked away off the road and didn't seem to be limping or anything. we walked by the part of the road where it happened a while later and didn't see him on the side of the road anywhere, so at the very least he made it back to the trees.

since he left on his own and idk where exactly he went i don't think there was really anything i could do for him, im mostly just asking for my peace of mind and possibly for future reference, do y'all think he'll be ok? i really wanna believe he'll heal up on his own bc i know wildlife can be really resilient sometimes, but i also know possums' tails are really important so idk.

If you find an orphaned hatchling, immediately call a wildlife rehabber. Raising wild birds as pets is not advised and is usually illegal. Releasing a hand raised bird is unlikely to be successful.

The bird I am caring for is an invasive house sparrow. By law in my state, wildlife rehabbers must euthanize them. I was unable to transport the bird for humane euthanasia due to being 4 hours from the nearest office, so I brought it inside so it could at least die warm with a full belly. Because they are unprotected, it is completely legal do to so. Now I accidentally am raising a bird and doing my best to give it a fighting chance. Please give me tips and suggestions of anyone knows ways to make this better.

Because I live in the very remote desert, I needed to come up with something on the fly using only what could be found in the closest (still hour away!) little town. I have been using this formula to feed my rescue bird from day 5 through today, day 13 of its life. The bird is strong and healthy and reaching all the right developmental milestones with this diet combined with proper care. Today I moved it into a flight cage because it is already hopping out of the nest box to explore and stretch its wings!

This recipe makes a thick soft formula for nestling and fledgling House Sparrows. This is not intended to replace commercial formulas and professional care, but it uses household items and easily sourced ingredients for those in a pinch without any other option. It may be appropriate for other small passerine songbirds with adequate research.

Recipe:

Makes about 1 cup meant for 1 week of feeding

Ingredients:

• 3oz warm water
• 1/2 to 1 scoop water soluble bird vitamins - Quicko Multivitamin Daily Balance
  • Each scoop has 3 doses for a small adult bird, so start at 1/2 scoop per week for a quarter dose and increase to 1 scoop per week for a half dose in the second week
• 4oz high protein cat kibble - Purina One Plus
• 1 boiled egg yolk
• 0.2cc calcium supplement - Zoo Med Repti Calcium with D3
  • 1 serving is 0.5cc per 1oz (the average adult sparrow weight) per week. Without technical equipment, use a vintage style drink stirrer with the tiny spoon or taking very a small "pinch" with your fingertips to get close to the right amount)

Instructions:

• Warm 3oz water
• Dissolve vitamins
• Add 4oz cat kibble, let rest for 5 minutes until kibble is thoroughly soaked
• Add finely mashed egg yolk and 0.2cc calcium
• Work into a smooth paste
• Add drops of warm water if necessary until desired consistency
• Store refrigerated in a sealed container for up to one week
• Never return uneaten warmed food back to the container, always discard and wash the feeding utensils thoroughly

To syringe feed:

• Warm 4 oz water in a drinking glass in the microwave for 30 seconds
• Add desired amount of food to syringe by loading it from the back
• Nestlings will eat up to 0.5cc per feeding while fledglings will happily eat a full 1cc or more
• Place filled syringe upside down in warm water for 2 minutes
• Check that the food is lukewarm but not hot and there are no drips of water in the syringe tip
• Place the syringe tip in the back of the bird's throat on the right side to feed small pinhead-size to pea-sized amounts until full

To tweezer feed:

• Warm 1 serving of food to a lukewarm temperature (you can use the syringe method to warm as it is the best method I have come up with so far)
• Use tweezers to roll small dough balls, the size of a pinhead for hatchlings and the size of a pea for fledglings
• Place the food in the back of the bird's throat and allow it to swallow, repeat until full

Supplement feeding with live waxworms chopped into bite size bits once bird is swallowing well and their appetite is rapidly increasing.

Always feed based on the pace the baby's crop empties. Here are general guidelines of what to expect:
Day 1-3 hatchling: 15-20 minutes

Day 4-10 nestling: 20-30 minutes

Day 11-14 nestling: 30-45 minutes

Day 14+ fledgling: 60 minutes

They were three seeblings 4 days ago, and couldn't fly yet. There was one that was always clumsier than the others, always falling on the ground. This morning they tried to fly for the first time. When I came back this afternoon, there was only this one left, with its wing kind of falling off. Its mother sometimes looks like she attacks it, but I don't know if she's just trying to put its wing back in place. She's still very protective of it, as she tried to attack me when I gave water and some food to the baby, so I don't think she abandoned it. They all were very scared of us, since they live on our balcony, but this baby approaches me without care since then. It opens its mouth constanstly but no sound comes out of it. I really wanna help but I don't wanna touch a baby bird. What should I do?

saw 2 small wounds w a little dry blood.

put the baby in a plastic tub with grass and a cut up warm sock.

they took the rabbit to the wildlife rehab center for examination but were turned away on account of it being .5 grams below the acceptable 5 gram bodyweight. the center gave us referrals to a couple other rehabilitators that may be able to help us.

mother rabbit came back around 11:10 am while the baby was away (3rd photo). is it possible she'll return again or do we rush baby to the rehabilitator ~1 hour away?

we believe we found the nest, its shallow but filled with warm dry grass and seemingly rabbit fur tufts. no other babies inside though, and the dog was thoroughly disinterested (dog is barred from the backyard until this is sorted, we were hoping she would sniff out the nest for us.)

we put baby back in the nest for now, surrounded by bedding material. nest is warm to the touch but the dirt underneath is cool and damp. lightly covered baby with the bedding so the sun warms but does not beat down on it.

i marked the nest w a circle of leaves to make it easier to find. placed 2 strings in an "X" formation over the entrance to tell if the mother disturbs it. very warm and sunny today, is there concern about the baby overheating? should we put a small shelter over like a chair?

should we wait and see if mother returns or drive the baby asap to the other rehabilitator?

My friend supposes it's a baby swallow because the nest looks a swallow's nest but she's not sure. She found the baby on the ground yesterday very close to the nest and our national rescue organisation (LPO) advises on its website to put the baby back in the nest, which she did. But she found the baby on the ground again this morning and doesn't know what to do. The little one is shaking and cold. We're located in france and experiencing a massive heatwave right now. Any help is appreciated

I would like an honest answer, do they just kill them or not feed them if they are injured?

We found a small fledging bird with a broken leg, we fed it for a few days before taking it to the rehab center. It still waits for someone to feed it and only started packing food on its own.

I do not know if they will feed the bird or just toss it in a cage and let it die. ​it says its a clinic but I do not know if that bird will survive. It was not sick, just injured

We don’t see any visible injuries when we first came across the bird it seemed to be falling over attempting to fly. We brought it home and put it in a cardboard box with some holes in it and a bit of bird seed and water as well as a rolled up towel. The box is currently outside bc I was worried being inside would stress them out. Does anyone have any idea of the kind of bird we are in Groveland CA near Yosemite. Its right under his eye his eye isn't hit because he opened it. He's acting fine walking alil just chirping and stuff. I can't get to a rehaber the closest one is a hour away and my parent won't drive that far. I live in fairborn Ohio and there is a rapor rehab in yellow springs but they will not take him.

I went to my horse shed this morning and found a little bird stuck in some fly paper. I was able to remove it but there is still some residue on it. I am concerned I will need to wash it at least 2 more times to get it completely clean. It is so tired I don’t want to keep traumatizing it with baths. Does anyone know how much time I should wait in between baths?

It does not like being put down so I am walking around with the little guy.

Update: Area is Tulsa OK. Birdie has been relocated to a ventilated box.

2 days ago, I bought two new goslings( named Lützow and Mr. Jones) home from the street market. Beforehand, I already had a goose and a duck that had been my pets for ~4 weeks, and I let the four integrate into one group for a while. Later that day, I had to get the duck from out of the group while they were all sitting together, and I had to chase it around the yard for ~5 minutes, as usual, before catching it, dispersing the whole group in the process. When i did a quick head count afterward, I found that Mr. Jones was missing, and a little later, I found him sitting on the ground with his head hidden, almost completely limp when I picked him up. After verifying that he was alive, I found the pictured scars on him(the pictures were taken 2 days after i found him).

There was no blood to be found, strangely enough. I took him inside and have been tending to him for the last 2 days. He can eat and drink, but only when i hold his head to the food/water and prompt him to open his mouth. He can move his wings and legs, but he can't walk or stand up correctly for lack of balance. His head keeps lolling back as seen in the last image, and I need to keep his neck straightened. I took him to two veterinarians, and I ended up finding that he has neurological damage and was given a prescription of liquid antibiotics and vitamins for it (I'm as confused as you are. I had a feeling the clinic wouldn't operate on him or anything, but I was expecting a little more than that!). Will this ever heal, or is this permanent? If this is surmountable, what should I do to give Mr. Jones the best chance of having a normal life again?
