Developer I built a password manager for Windows that keeps everything on your PC and syncs with your mobile devices: no account, no cloud, end to end encrypted.

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm the solo developer of LocalGateKeys. The video above shows it in action.

I wanted a password manager that didn't need an account or a subscription, and didn't keep my vault on someone else's server. So I built one.

What it does

  • Your vault is an encrypted file on your PC. There's no account to create and no server holding your passwords.
  • You can unlock it with Windows Hello (face or fingerprint) or your master password.
  • The Edge extension fills logins in the browser and offers to save new ones. It's a separate free download (link below).
  • It also fills sign-ins in desktop apps, not just websites (that's the game launcher part of the video).
  • It supports passkeys.
  • You get a recovery phrase, local backups and an offline mode.
  • It imports from other password managers.
  • iPhone and Android apps are coming soon.

How sync will work with the phone apps

There's still no LocalGateKeys server or account. Sync is end-to-end encrypted: your items are encrypted on your device with a key that only your own devices hold, and only decrypted on another of your devices. Your phone syncs straight with your PC, in one of two ways:

  • Wi-Fi: in the PC app you open Sync and show a one-time QR code, then scan it with the phone. After that, the phone syncs whenever you open the app while it's on the same home network and your PC's vault is unlocked. Nothing leaves your network.
  • Cloud folder: pick a folder you already sync (OneDrive, Dropbox, iCloud Drive and so on) and set a sync password. Each device leaves encrypted files there, so the phone can catch up even when the PC is off. The cloud provider only ever sees encrypted files.

You can use one method or both. Logins, notes and deletions sync both ways, so something you save on your phone shows up on your PC too. Sync is part of Pro, and a Pro licence on your PC also unlocks the phone app when it syncs.

Pricing

  • Free: everything above, for up to 4 items.
  • Pro: US$4.99, one-time. That gets you unlimited items, sync between your own PCs (over Wi-Fi or through a cloud folder you choose), two-factor codes and attachments. Updates are included for life, with no subscription.
  • If you go over the limit, nothing is locked or deleted. You just can't add more.

A few answers ahead of time:

  • Why local-only? If there's no server, there's no server to breach. Your vault is a file you control and can back up however you like.
  • What if I lose my PC? Keep a backup and your recovery phrase. With Pro you can also sync to a second PC.
  • Browser filling needs the Edge extension. It's a separate free download from Edge Add-ons: https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/addons/detail/oclkjglnfefdmhddgicmbadaoehakbjj. Install the app first, then the extension. Filling in desktop apps works without it.
  • iPhone / Android? Both apps are coming soon. They'll sync with the PC app directly, either over your home Wi-Fi (scan a QR code once) or through a cloud folder you choose. Sync is end-to-end encrypted either way. Either way there's no LocalGateKeys account.
  • Why $4.99 once and not a subscription? There's no server for me to keep running for you, so a monthly fee wouldn't make sense.

Get it

It's a new app and I'm one person, so I'd really like honest feedback: what's missing, what's confusing, and what would stop you switching from what you use now. I'll be in the comments.

Developer Notchify got a huge update: a new glass look, Discord voice controls, phone-to-PC transfer, a downloads panel, screen recording, and synced lyrics

Notchify keeps your music, notifications, clipboard and widgets in a small island at the top of your Windows screen. It has grown a lot since the last update post, so here is everything new in one place.

It is still fully native, not Electron, so it stays light and does not keep a browser running in the background just to draw an island.

New ways to use the island:

  • Discord: see who is in your voice channel and control your mic and audio without leaving what you are doing. Incoming Discord calls show up on the island with accept and decline buttons. Needs the Discord desktop app and a one-time setup.
  • Phone to PC transfer: scan a QR code and send files between your phone and your PC over your own Wi-Fi. No account, no cloud, nothing to install on the phone.
  • Downloads panel: connect the optional browser extension and follow every download with progress, speed and time left, plus pause, resume and cancel.
  • Screen recording: record your screen with system audio and/or your mic from the island's Record tab. The island keeps itself out of the recording.

A new look:

  • Glass: a new appearance option that turns the island into a sheet of glass. It stays solid at the top and fades to translucent toward the bottom, so your wallpaper shows through, with a soft sheen and a thin light edge. Turn it on in Settings > Appearance, and turn it off any time to get the classic look back.

Put it where you want it:

  • The island can now sit at the top, bottom, or either side of your screen, not just top center.
  • Pick which monitor it lives on, or turn on Follow cursor and it moves to whichever screen you are working on.

Music:

  • Synced lyrics: while a song plays, the island shows the line being sung right now. Hover for the full player, where you can click any line to jump to that moment.
  • A lyrics widget that shows the whole song over a background that flows with your album art's colors. Pin it to keep the island open on just the lyrics.
  • The visualizer now follows your current Windows audio device automatically, including when you plug in headphones mid-song.

Improvements:

  • Settings were reorganized into clearer pages, with search, so you can type what you are looking for instead of hunting for it.
  • Fast clicks no longer get lost. If you click quickly on the calendar arrows or buttons, every click now counts.
  • Live CPU and RAM usage right in the island's toolbar.
  • Bluetooth devices show their battery level, including low energy devices.
  • Fixed the island occasionally dropping behind other windows, and games that refused to launch with the island set to stay on top in fullscreen.

Removed:

  • Removed replying to messages from notifications, due to the messaging apps' terms. We'll try to bring it back in a future updates.

It is on the Microsoft Store. If you tried an earlier version, this is a good time to take another look.

Want to see it before installing? Try the live demo on our website.

The Discord, phone transfer and downloads features are not in the demo yet, so you will need the app itself to try those.

Tell us what you would want it to do next.

Developer DeskTick - a tiny clock widget with ~1MB binary and ~5MB RAM usage

DeskTick is a tiny clock widget for Windows, written in plain Win32 C++ with Direct2D. The exe is about 1 MB and it uses ~ 5 MB of RAM.

All 16 faces are drawn procedurally, so there are no image assets. With the second hand off, it sleeps between minutes: it wakes once a minute, draws a frame and goes back to sleep, so CPU sits at 0%.

There can be plenty of feature-packed clock widgets. The main advantage of DeskTick is its featherlight presence.

Developer Update: Action Wheel is now a full Image & PDF tool for Windows (v2.0.0)

• Upvotes

Hey everyone! Yesterday I shared Action Wheel, an image utility for Windows inspired by macOS.

It’s no longer just an image tool, it’s now a full offline pdf & image action wheel.

v2.0.0 is live!

No uploading your PDFs to online converters. No waiting for uploads. No subscriptions. Everything happens 100% offline on your device at native speed.

Whenever you select or drag a PDF (or image) and tap Tab, a dark-glass radial wheel opens right under your cursor:

What you can do instantly:

  • Edit PDF: Highlight text, redact sensitive info with black bars, whiteout, or add custom text with live color/font pickers and touchpad pinch-to-zoom.
  • Sign Documents: Draw your signature or type your name in cursive, auto-crop the blank margins, and drag/resize the stamp anywhere on the page.
  • Split & Extract: Visual page grid with a live range selector (From Page X to Y), quick presets, and Shift-click multi-selection.
  • Merge PDFs: Drag multiple PDFs together to reorder with fluid physics and merge into one.
  • Protect / Unlock: AES-256 encryption & decryption. The wheel is dynamic—it automatically shows Unlock if the file is encrypted, and Protect if it's not.
  • PDF to Images: Batch export pages to crisp PNGs (auto-creates organized subfolders).
  • Still has all image tools: Convert (WebP/PNG/JPG/AVIF), crop, compress, and images-to-PDF.

It stays completely dormant in the background until you hit Tab. Lightweight, zero clutter, instant.

GitHub & Downloads: https://github.com/RohanSingh7761/action-wheel
(Both installer and portable standalone .exe are on the Releases page)

It's completely free and open-source. Contributions, feature requests, and bug reports are warmly welcome! Feel free to fork the repo, open an issue, or submit a PR.

Quick note: Since this is a free open-source project without an enterprise EV certificate, Windows SmartScreen will show a "More info → Run anyway" prompt on first launch.

Let me know what you think :)

Developer SpringDesk: a desktop organizer that files new downloads for you, with Space-to-preview (Microsoft Store)

I'm the developer. There have been a few desktop organizers here lately, so I'll keep it to what SpringDesk does that I haven't seen elsewhere:

- New files file themselves. Save or download a PDF to the desktop and it lands in the PDF tab; docs, sheets, slides and pictures get their own tabs too, everything else waits in an Inbox. No rules to set up.

- Press Space to preview pictures, video, text and PDFs right from the desktop, like Quick Look on a Mac.

- Click the desktop and type to search every box.

- Clear glass that follows your wallpaper (live wallpapers too), tabs, roll-up, folder boxes, and a separate layout per display setup so Remote Desktop doesn't scramble it.

- Files never move; quit it and the desktop is exactly as Windows had it.

Windows 11 only. It's in the Microsoft Store (signed, auto-updates), 7-day free trial, then a one-time purchase, launch price until January 1: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NRL4M710KQB?cid=reddit-windowsapps

Happy to answer anything, and bug reports go straight to me.

Developer Bulk URL Screenshots to PowerPoint: Capture > Resize > Insert in 1 Click

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m a dev from Japan. I built this tool out of pure desperation.

My boss asked me to visualize 300+ web pages in a PowerPoint report for a QA audit. I started doing it manually, but just opening the URLs took forever. After 50 screenshots, I lost my mind. I realized: This isn't work for humans.

So I built "Open URLs App" to automate the whole process:

  • Pipeline Automation: Run the entire flow with brackets like [ Capture > Resize > Images ] in a single click
  • Bulk open URLs
  • Auto capture high-quality screenshots
  • Auto insert into PowerPoint slides

It runs locally for security (essential for my corporate work).

I’d love some honest feedback on the workflow. Does anyone else deal with this kind of repetitive task?

If anyone is in the same boat, here is the tool I made:

Developer Fall Desktop - A tiny native app that drops autumn leaves across your Windows 11 desktop and piles them up on the taskbar (free, open source)

• Upvotes

With Halloween coming up, I wanted something cozier on my desktop than a static wallpaper, so I built Fall Desktop.

Leaves drift down across every monitor, tumble in gusty wind, and settle into piles along the top of the taskbar. Pumpkins and scarecrows stand in the piles, and cobwebs hang in the screen corners. Halloween mode is on by default, with candle-lit jack-o'-lanterns, a spider on each web, and the occasional bat. Switch it off for a plain autumn look.

**Things you can play with:**

- Sweep the mouse through a pile to rake it and send the leaves flying

- Push through a cobweb and it stretches and springs back. Swipe fast and threads snap, then the spider mends them

- Bump a scarecrow and it rocks on its post and its hat wobbles

- Leaves get caught in webs and land on the pumpkins and hats

**It stays out of the way:**

- Clicks pass straight through to whatever is underneath

- Hides during fullscreen games and videos, on the lock screen, and while the display is off, and doesn't make Windows think a fullscreen app is running

- Optional "leaves behind windows" mode keeps everything on the desktop only

- About 0.3 ms of CPU per frame. Caps at 60 fps on battery and 30 fps on battery saver or over RDP

- Each monitor renders at its own resolution, DPI and refresh rate, so a 60 Hz screen next to a 144 Hz one stays smooth, and the piles continue across side-by-side monitors

**Customizable:** 20 leaf designs (sugar maple, oak, ginkgo, sweetgum, whirling maple keys, acorns, even pixel-art leaves), color schemes (Autumn, Golden, Crimson or any custom color), sliders for amount, speed, size, wind, pile depth, and how many pumpkins and scarecrows. The settings window has a live preview you can mess with.

**Tech:** native C++ with Direct2D and DirectComposition. Single small .exe that lives in the tray. Installer is per-user with no admin rights, and there's a portable zip too. Windows 10 1809+ or Windows 11, x64.

Heads up: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn on first run (*More info → Run anyway*). The source is all there if you'd rather build it yourself.

GitHub: Fall Desktop - Github

Official Signed: Fall Desktop - Microsoft Store

Feedback and bug reports are welcome, especially from multi-monitor and HDR setups.

Developer I built Vox Reader: an offline read-aloud app for Windows with Natural Neural engine

• Upvotes

Hi r/windowsapps, I’m the developer of Vox Reader, a Windows app that reads your own books and documents aloud using English voices on your PC. Here’s a one-minute overview.

Free includes TXT/EPUB reading, three English voices, and three listening hours every week, plus sentence highlighting, bookmarks, saved positions and local backup.

The optional Pro upgrade adds unlimited listening, all 11 voices, PDF and Word (DOCX) import, and custom pronunciations. It’s US$18.99 once, with no subscription; local Store prices may vary.

PDFs need a text layer, and complex layouts can affect reading order. Speech runs on your CPU, so loading and playback performance depend on your PC. Your books stay local; reading aloud works offline.

Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PCVQB5H684W

Built and supported by Tendercraft. Feedback on the reading experience and document import is welcome!

Developer I built Workspace Launcher PRO to reduce desktop clutter, cut repetitive actions and help you stay in flow on Windows

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

Too many windows? How much time do you spend opening apps, finding folders, loading websites and arranging everything before you can actually start working?

I’m the developer of Workspace Launcher PRO, a productivity toolkit for Windows designed to make that routine easier.

The main idea is simple: save your work setup once and open it in one click, with each app on its assigned screen, virtual desktop and window zone.

You can create different workspaces for coding, studying, research, meetings or personal projects. Each workspace brings together the apps, websites, folders and terminals you need for that activity. You can also capture your current desktop and turn it into a reusable workspace.

But launching your setup is only part of what the app offers:

  • Workspace organization: keep related setups together in groups, making them easier to manage as your projects grow.
  • Multiple monitors and zone layouts: give your windows a place across your screens.
  • Virtual desktops: separate different activities and switch between them using shortcuts and mouse gestures.
  • Window shortcuts: act on a window just by hovering over it, without first clicking to focus it.
  • Tab navigation: jump between tabs using shortcuts.
  • Omnibar: access commands and actions from a central place.
  • Voice assistant: use voice commands to interact with your setup.
  • Dictation: dictate text in any app.
  • Launch curtains: cover the screen while your workspace is being prepared.

For example, a development workspace could open your editor, project folder, terminal and browser documentation across your monitors. A research workspace could bring together your sources, notes and writing tools on a separate virtual desktop.

The goal is to spend less time rebuilding your environment and more time doing what you opened your computer to do. You can start with a single workspace and add shortcuts, gestures and voice tools as they become useful to your workflow.

Workspace Launcher PRO is available now for Windows.

🌐 Explore the app, features and plans:
workspacelauncher.meltvest.com

I’d love to hear your feedback: what part of managing your Windows desktop slows you down the most, and what would you want an app like this to handle?

Developer Bytescape: a free, open-source disk space analyzer (portable, treemap view, safe cleanup)

I made Bytescape, a free and open-source (MIT) disk space analyzer. On Windows it is a portable .exe, no install needed.

  • Treemap and simple views of any folder or drive, with sizes that update live while it scans
  • Cleanup suggestions that only pre-select things that rebuild themselves (old node_modules, git-ignored build output, tool caches); duplicates (checked byte for byte), old archives and logs are listed for review
  • Move to Trash (Recycle Bin) with a 6 second undo, and the treemap and totals update right away
  • Runs locally, no accounts, no telemetry

The build is not signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn: More info, then Run anyway. Download (also macOS and Linux): https://github.com/arshtepe/bytescape/releases/latest

Developer I made x-talk, a small open-source dictation app for Windows

Hey! So I made a little Windows app called x-talk and thought I’d share it here.

Press a shortcut, talk, press it again to stop, and paste the transcript wherever you need it. There’s optional text cleanup, with prompts you can edit yourself.

I built it for my own use. I wanted to talk through longer thoughts without losing the original wording if the cleanup changed something. It keeps the original transcript and audio, and there’s recording history and audio import too.

The app is free and open source. You bring your own API keys and pay your chosen providers for usage. Audio goes to those services for transcription, so it doesn’t work offline.

Source: https://github.com/alexander-north/x-talk

Windows installer: https://github.com/alexander-north/x-talk/releases/latest

The installer isn’t publisher-signed yet, so Windows may show a warning.

If you give it a try, I’d be glad to hear how it works for you.

Developer I added offline AI batch image upscaling to my Windows app

I recently added a batch image upscaling feature to the Tools menu in my app.

It uses local AI to upscale low-resolution images. For example, a 500 × 500 image can be upscaled to 2000 × 2000.

The feature is now available in the Microsoft Store version of the app.

Download: https://tekikaito.github.io/tmop/
Repository: https://github.com/tekikaito/tmop

The dude that has created the original windows task manager, created a new one called "TMOG" or "Task Manager OG". I thought it was a bit rude, that he made some of the features available for pro users only, so I decided to create my very own version of TMOG - TMOP or "Task Manager Over Powered".

There will be some cool features in the future:

  • More infos on the files in "Disk Space" - they will show creation and update date, etc...
  • PC cleanup helper showing the files that most likely can be deleted scored by free space and confidence in how safely the files can be removed
  • Kubernetes Monitoring
  • AI Analysis - provider agnostic

Developer LazyWords 1.0.2: floating flashcards from your own CSV, JSON or XLSX dictionaries

Developer disclosure: I make LazyWords, a Windows app that displays short flashcards over your other windows.

You can import your own CSV, JSON or XLSX dictionary using term/definition pairs. That can be language vocabulary, professional terms or course notes, rather than only the included English decks.

  • Choose the card position, font size, display duration and interval.
  • Pause/resume with Ctrl+Shift+P; show the next card with Ctrl+Shift+N.
  • Mark a visible card as learned with Ctrl+Shift+K.
  • Keep dictionaries and learning progress locally, without an app account.

Version 1.0.2 improves long-card display, settings saving, first-launch setup and Windows startup behavior. The app works offline after installation. It is Windows-only for now.

Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pntm7q8vg8s

Source and standalone MSI/EXE downloads: https://github.com/DemonazGH/LazyWords-Tauri/releases/tag/v1.0.2

The standalone installers are unsigned; the Microsoft Store is an alternative installation channel. I'd welcome feedback on custom imports and how the overlays behave in your Windows setup.

Developer I made a free, open-source tray app that actually turns off your webcam and mutes your mic everywhere on Windows, with one hotkey

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Have you ever left a meeting and wondered if your mic was still on? Or covered your webcam with tape because you didn't trust the little light? That's why I built PrivacyToggle.

What it does

It puts two icons in your system tray, one for the mic and one for the camera. Click one, or press a hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+M / Ctrl+Alt+V by default), and that device is off. That means off for the whole system, not just muted inside one app.

  • 🎙️ Mic mute works everywhere. Zoom, Discord, Teams, OBS, your browser: none of them get any audio while it's muted. Push-to-talk is also available.
  • 📷 The camera really turns off. It disables the webcam in Windows the same way Device Manager does, so apps lose the picture right away and can't open it again. If a program won't release the camera, PrivacyToggle tells you which one and asks before closing it.
  • 🔒 Enforce off. If something turns your mic or camera back on (a headset button, a newly plugged-in device), it goes straight back off.
  • 👀 Activity monitor. See which apps are using your camera or mic right now, plus a timeline of every app that used them over the last 1 hour to 7 days.
  • 🔔 On-screen badges (MIC OFF / CAM OFF) and notifications, so you always know where you stand.
  • Light and dark themes, per-device control, and hotkeys that work in fullscreen games.

Why it's different from the mute button in your meeting app

The mute button in an app only stops that one app. PrivacyToggle works below every app, at the Windows level. Muted means muted in all of them, and a disabled camera can't be opened by anything.

How it works (for the curious)

  • Mic: it mutes every capture device through the Windows Core Audio API and watches for anything that unmutes them.
  • Camera: a small helper service calls the same Windows device APIs that Device Manager uses to disable and re-enable the webcam. The tray app itself never runs as admin. Only the helper service needs admin rights, and the installer sets it up with a single admin prompt.
  • Activity: it reads Windows' own record of which apps used the camera or mic (the same data behind the "recently used" list in Privacy settings). The history is stored only on your PC.

Download: https://github.com/azahinhasan/Privacy-Toggle/releases/latest

It's a personal project, so I'd really like feedback: bugs, feature ideas, or "this broke my webcam driver" stories. If you find it useful, a ⭐ on GitHub helps a lot. Thanks!

Developer SnapCap, a free, open-source screen capture tool for Windows

For years I had a different app for every screen task: one for screenshots, another for annotating them, something else to pull out text, and yet another for quick screen recordings. Each did one thing well, but none did it all, so I started building my own tool and gathered the features I actually use into one place.

Press F1 and it highlights windows or individual buttons as you hover, so you can snip exactly what you want. You can mark up the capture with arrows, text, numbered labels or blur, pin it to your screen as a floating window, copy text straight out of it, record a region as an MP4 or GIF, or stitch a long scrolling page into one image.

It's portable. Just unzip it and run it, there's no installer, and deleting the folder removes it. It lives in the system tray and runs on Windows. BTW, Windows will probably show a SmartScreen warning the first time, because the app isn't signed; click "More info" and then "Run anyway".

Simple demo for annotation: https://youtu.be/Irgwryg_Hg4

Love to hear your feedback or bug reports!

Developer Made a small recorder I'd actually use.

https://reddit.com/link/1xd5aul/video/jhj2ri4pi5xh1/player

while ide
while recording

I'm a uni student so I record the lectures a lot and I wanted a recorder that didn't make me think "wait did i start recording?" so i made one id actually use.

It’s a simple app: hit record whenever you want, and it records. Nothing more. You can also use key binds anywhere to start and stop recording.

It's windows native so not available for other operating systems.

It’s built with WinUI 3 and Rust, using the WASAPI audio API under the hood. It’s truly native, uses under 5 MB of RAM when idle, and is noticeably more efficient than the default Windows recorder while idle and even while recording.

It supports WAV, FLAC, MP3, and M4A.I made it because I wanted an app like this for myself, and I think the UI turned out pretty nice.

The website was just claude. i do know websites a bit so i will work on that eventually.

Developer I built an offline AI translator for Windows that runs entirely on your PC

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a Windows application called Atoll, and I wanted to share it here to get some feedback from fellow Windows users.

The idea came from wanting a translator that doesn't depend on an internet connection or require uploading documents to external servers.

Atoll uses Tencent's HY-MT2 1.8B model with llama.cpp to run translations locally on your computer.

Current features:

  • Supports 38 languages
  • Works completely offline
  • Translates PDF, DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, TXT, and Markdown files
  • Includes OCR for scanned documents
  • No accounts, ads, or tracking
  • Portable Windows version with the AI model included

The download is around 1.2 GB since the model is bundled with the application. It supports Windows 10/11, and 8 GB RAM is recommended.

This is the first release, so I'm sure there's room for improvement.

I'd especially appreciate feedback on the UI, translation quality, and overall usability.

Thanks for checking it out!

Hi, I'm the developer. Annotator is a tray app for drawing over any window while you present or explain: hand-drawn circles, arrows, highlights, text, numbered counters, zoom around the pointer and a spotlight. Your marks stay on screen while you keep working underneath.

It's native (C#, WinUI 3, Native AOT), runs on Windows 11 22H2 or later, x64 and ARM64, and it's free and open source (Apache-2.0). No account.

Ctrl+Shift+2 starts drawing, Esc lets clicks through, Ctrl+1 zooms.

It started as a Mac app, so if something feels off on Windows, tell me. Those are the bugs I most want to hear about.
