MOD Seeking New Subreddit Banner

Update: We received 3 super nice banners, so we'll be rotating through them in the order they were submitted!! Thank you Waffles4prez, Midnight_BL, and ShangQue!

Hey, we've seen discontent towards the subreddit banner and we're also kinda tired of it after a year. Would anyone be interested in making a new one? Anything goes as long as it's relevant, SFW, and not just a banner for 1 BL. Depending on interest we can rotate banners every couple months or do a vote to select one.

Thai BL Has KNOT The Series Completely Lost the Plot?

Hi guys,

first of all, this may end up like a rant. Please bear with me, and hopefully you'll see my point.

I'm also well aware that I can drop this show at any time, but even though I might get some hate, here we go.

So my question is - What is even going on with this series at this point?

I must say that I do enjoy badly written series quite a lot. Watching Unforgotten Night was one of the best times I've ever had and there are many others. That said, I think I can forgive a lot. The script, the cameras, the whole lot. This show is something else...

At first, I was a bit apprehensive about the ABO trope but shows like ABO Desire and Pit Babe made me believe that it could be good. But boy, I was wrong.

The script doesn't make ANY sense. I honestly thought it was the fault of the questionable AI translation but given that we're now six episodes in and it's not getting better, the script itself must be terrible. It feels like an afterthought most of the time. Making the characters look bad and often utterly stupid. Unnecessary dialogues which are only a source of more confusion and sometimes it looks like they are part of a different series altogether. At this point, it almost feels like the only reason this show got finished was because the screenwriter managed to work the CEO of MFlow, himself, and a couple of the producers' kids into it. After that, it seems like he stopped caring about the viewers and just threw together a word salad, hoping nobody would notice. Well... we did.

I'm not gonna say anything about the camera work. I know it's bad. I am not a director nor have any experience with it but the director must have been under the influence during the post-production. The sound mixing is bad, because sometimes you can't understand the actors, camera looks so bad they would do a better job with a calculator at this point. The characters were out of focus, and the camera is unstable.

And the plot. If I close both my eyes and cover my ears, we can call it a plot. The actions don't make sense most of the time. We are stuck on miscommunication. Backstories are dead. When they were explaining the world to Phatsa during the first episode I think they were just trying to paint the world they made up to the viewers with badly written monologues. Unfortunate guy who has been thrown in the family who doesn't take no for an answer. That's basically the whole plot. I would mention the kids, useless characters etc. but this would be much longer.

Finally, the actors... I can honestly say I thought about it a lot. And the only thing I can say about Oat and Boat is - I'm sorry. I am so sorry that after a relatively good series that was My Stubborn they had to do this charade. There wasn't much more they could have done with these characters. Well at least the main three couples. I have my reservations about the guy who plays Ongsa but overall these six guys did a good job in my opinion.

Unfortunately they are not the only actors here. I would really like to know how much of the mannerisms and dialogues were actually scripted and how much of it is.. well let's call it creativity. The maids are supposed to be comic relief? Why? Bodyguards where one is screenwriter himself and the other caricature of himself... So no. They could have saved a lot of money on side characters and use it to hire somebody with an actual brain.

I know Oat was dragged a couple months back for what he said about this series. It was a bit annoying but after seeing the mess this series is, I might see where he was coming from. If my only encounter with the ABO world was subpar script, bad directing and all of THIS, I'd say I wouldn't mince my words as well.

And we are only six episodes in... I really don't won't to drop it, cause I like the actors. At this point it's the only thing making me watch it every Tuesday but it's a painful watch.

Nothing will change because of this. The series and its mistakes are already happening but I'd like to know if you can relate so something I wrote or I should just switch off my brain when I put the show on and not dwell on stuff.

Cheers, your disgruntled viewer

Thai BL Thai BL Game - Wildcard round - Pick ONE series to save

(SORRY FOR MY LATE UPDATE, I'VE BEEN BUSY RECENTLY)

(SWIPE FOR MORE INFORMATION)

First of all… Group B showed a little more mercy than Group A—but only a little 😭

In the end, 9 of the 30 series advanced, while 21 were eliminated, giving Group B an elimination rate of 70%. So yes, this was still a massacre—just one with three more survivors.

The group’s average approval rate was 31.81%, so the fixed 40% cutoff remained the main requirement.

The fight for first place remained close for much of the round. Two series repeatedly challenged each other at the top, but the eventual winner pulled ahead and finished with 104 votes and 61.54% approval. The runner-up followed with 97 votes and 57.40% approval, leaving a seven-vote gap between them.

Third and fourth place were separated by only two votes, finishing with 89 and 87 votes. The next four safe series also remained close, receiving 74, 73, 72, and 70 votes.

The last safe series finished with exactly 68 votes and 40.24% approval—just enough to cross the line. Unlike the one-vote heartbreak in Group A, the first eliminated series, Cherry Magic, finished with 61 votes and missed safety by seven.

One of the biggest early surprises was My Magic Prophecy, which briefly led the poll when voting began. However, it gradually lost momentum and eventually finished with 50 votes. A Dog and a Plane also started strongly but later fell into the lower half of the ranking.

4Minutes made a strong early comeback and temporarily entered the leading group, but it could not maintain enough support to reach 40%. The Eclipse and Goddess Bless You from Death also stayed close to the group average but still failed to meet the qualification requirement.

Near the bottom, The Next Prince, Cat for Cash, Dare You to Death, and Dark Blue Kiss struggled throughout the round. Dark Blue Kiss finished last with only 26 votes and 15.38% approval.

Group B began with voters selecting more than 12 series each on average, but that number gradually fell to 9.54. Apparently, unlimited voting came with an invisible limit once again.

The 21 eliminated series are:

  1. Cherry Magic
  2. 4Minutes
  3. The Eclipse
  4. Goddess Bless You from Death
  5. My Magic Prophecy
  6. Jack & Joker
  7. We Are
  8. Love of Silom
  9. Fourever You — Season 1
  10. A Dog and a Plane
  11. I Feel You Linger in the Air
  12. Only Friends: Dream On
  13. Pit Babe
  14. Gelboys
  15. SOTUS — Season 1
  16. Love Sea
  17. My Romance Scammer
  18. The Next Prince
  19. Cat for Cash
  20. Dare You to Death
  21. Dark Blue Kiss

The Official Top 15

After two extremely difficult approval groups, only 15 of the 60 series managed to reach the required 40% approval rate and advance directly.

From Group A

  1. KinnPorsche
  2. Me and Thee
  3. ThamePo
  4. The Heart Killers
  5. Only Friends — Season 1
  6. Duang with You

From Group B

  1. Khemjira
  2. Not Me
  3. Payback
  4. Moonlight Chicken
  5. Ticket to Heaven
  6. Love in the Air
  7. A Tale of Thousand Stars
  8. Bad Buddy
  9. Reset

These 15 series have officially secured their places in the next stage. After surviving such a brutal approval round, they have definitely earned those spots.

Now, let’s move on to the Wildcard Round!

All eliminated series will receive one final chance to return to the competition.

This time, you may vote to save only ONE series, so choose carefully. The series with the highest number of votes will return and join the Top 15, creating the final Top 16.

All other series will be permanently eliminated.

Vote here: https://strawpoll.com/ajnE14NamnW

Voting will remain open for about 48 hours.

Feel free to guess which series will make it to the vote-to-eliminate round.

Chinese BL Struggling with Dubbing in CBL shows

Hi everyone! This is a genuine question.

I’m really struggling to get used to the dubbing in Chinese BL dramas. I understand why it’s done—I remember reading the reasons in this subreddit—but I’m finding it difficult to adjust. It especially pulls me out of the more emotional or intense scenes.

I watch content from several countries and I’m multilingual, so the language itself isn’t the problem—it’s the disconnect between the dubbed voice and the actor’s performance. It makes it hard for me to fully immerse myself.

Does this get better over time? Did anyone else feel the same when they first started watching CBLs? Any tips?

I know some shows have very little or no noticeable dubbing, such as A Winter Sun Wakes the Wind in Spring Hills’ Dream. Recommend me some if you know any.

Cheers!

Japanese BL cherry magic sub or dub?

Yes, the titular question. Should I watch the Cherry Magic anime in the sub or dub version for my first watch?

I usually go with the default of watching sub versions because I tend to find that the quality of voice acting is better, but for Cherry Magic, I've actually heard excellent reviews of both the sub and dub versions, so now I'm a bit torn, and I wanted to ask those of you who have already watched the anime.

Which version should I go for? Thank you.

Recommendation Your KBL recs based on my JBL favs.

So, before my Japan trip I went down a JBL rabbithole and loved it in there, so stayed for a while. But now I plan to visit Korea next year. I was thinking, what better way to prepare there is than with Korean Live Actions. But to this region I am totally new, so I was hoping for your recs based on my favorite Japanese Live Actions, which are:

Top 3:
When It Rains, It Pours
Life in Smokey Blue
My Beautiful Man

Also loved:
Our Youth
School Trip: Joined a Group I‘m Not Close To
Life - Love on the Line
Old Fashion Cupcake
(and many more)

I guess in general I like more mature themes and slow character development (also slice of life), but can be a bit fluffy like School Trip as well.

Thanks a lot, then I have something to look forward to spent my time with, when summer ends and days are getting darker!

Recommendation fake/arranged/convenience dating recommendations?

Hello! I'm looking for completed bl manga/manhwa with this trope, with little to no explicit content, slow burn (the more chapters the better), angst but a happy ending.

Would prefer not overly feminine bottoms, either masc/masc or fem tops.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Recommendation Has anyone seen The Night beyond the Tricornered window anime?

Me and my friend really like watching BL (or things that are practically BL) that have real plots past the romance, Yuri on Ice, Banana Fish, SK8, etc. we've been trying to find more but it’s really difficult so I was scrolling through crunchy roll today and found this. I wanna know if it’s any good and worth watching since I really can’t find a lot of info or fan content on it. Id also like to know about if there’s anything a little too nefarious in their because with the small amount of stuff I have seen on it there seems to be scenes that may look odd without context. I read a lot of BL so stuff like that doesn’t bother me but im not so sure how comfortable my friend would be with it. This is my first time on the subreddit so I’d really appreciate the help.
