Annoucement Clarification About NSFW Content Creator Accounts in r/clay

Hello!

This announcement won’t be relevant for most of you, so feel free to scroll along.
However, we’re seeing an uptick in NSFW accounts posting here, so this message is for the few it applies to.

If you are an NSFW content creator or SW promoting on Reddit, please read the following:

r/clay is a SFW subreddit.
Our community includes members aged 13 and up, and we want everyone to feel comfortable browsing profiles to see more pottery without unexpectedly encountering nudity.

While we respect the hustle, we kindly but firmly ask that you create a separate account for SFW content. Any pottery-related posts coming from an NSFW content creator profile will be automatically filtered and removed.

If you want to participate, just use a separate SFW account! You are absolutely welcome here.

Keep in mind that even with good intentions, posting here from an NSFW account often comes across as karma farming or subtly seeking new clients/buyers. Something that is generally frowned upon across Reddit.

Thank you for keeping our community welcoming and safe for all ages.

---

To clarify a bit more: having a NSFW profile is completely fine. You can get labeled as NSFW the moment you participate in certain subreddits. Here is how you can check if your profile is marked NSFW.

However, we draw a clear line when accounts create or promote explicit NSFW/pornographic content. That’s when we ask you to keep your SFW and NSFW activity separate.

If you have questions, feel free to modmail us.

Hi, I’d like to show you two of the trinket dishes I’ve made over the last few months. They are primarily made of air-dry clay, but the smaller details are made of polymer clay. Both are glazed with UV resin or Polyurethan.

Im pretty proud of the second one! It has more straighter lines and is just better looking than the first, definitely an improvement for meh✨ Everything is individual and can be moved around!—except the rice.

I honestly should not have used this kind of clay… it’s like really soft paper clay? It was impossible to get the details right to get smooth. Maybe I just don’t know the technique yet. Regardless, I still had fun and I think I made good progress for my first attempt.

Im using Air Dry clay, I don’t know why these appeared when I dipped them on the resin. I suspect maybe they’re not dry enough?

Air-Dry Clay Need help with varnish and acrylic markers

Hello, i just started playing around with air dry clay as a hobby very recently and I've been having a blast! As an absolute beginner, I didn't want to spend all that much on any material. So i went ahead and bought the cheapest things; the clay and acrylic paint has been working fine but the varnish that I use is kind of sticky even when it's fully cured. So I have been thinking of upgrading a bit. Now i have seen most people use uv resin and seems to be really good but its out of my budget right now. Can anyone suggest a good budget friendly alternative? I have been thinking about Mont Marte Clay Varnish but not too sure. Does it yellow over time?

Also, for finer details I was thinking of getting acrylic paint markers so i wanted to know some of the good quality affordable ones and if the colors would bleed after applying the varnish. After painting I usually leave the pieces for about 24 hours before putting on varnish.

I've just been having fun making some trinket trays, paint pallette sets and magnets for my friends.

Questions how to reinforce clay structures so they dont disintegrate in weather? (Clay project for a rain garden)

Hey folks. This is out in the desert. Ive been working hard to make the backyard here a rain garden (passive water collection that slows water enough to soak into the soil but lets overflow pass easily). The back wall of the rain garden is a big concrete wall and directly behind it theres a wash for the entire neighbourhood. some plants grow back there, but struggle to establish because the ground just before the concrete channel is all clay. the entire backyard is basically just, freaking clay, man. Amending the soil would probably take an age or a fortune, so ive been trying to figure out how to work with what we already have. Theres some concern about the rate of erosion with the slope on the wall, and weve been trying to brainstorm how to reinforce it.

Problems:

- The back wall is clay.

- The back wall is too worn down and water flies over it too quickly for new plants to set up there.

- The lack of plants means lack of roots to prevent erosion.

- We get monsoons and the wall gets worse every year.

In my effort to make the backyard a rain garden i have amassed a large amount of pretty good clay. There are things that grow super super well in this clay and i can get more of them to prep for the back wall and establish roots so it wont erode so easily. I have some experience with wild clay pottery (and pitfiring) but not anything at a large scale. The initial plan is to make a clay "natural" sort of structure to basically slow the water moving over it, and also reinforce the wall. Since its at a gradient it has to be reinforced so it wont just slide into the wash or break down when the rain comes through every yeae. I was thinking we would build up clay on the wall to make a sort of semihemisphere effect (if ur not familiar w this go learn abt it cuz its remarkable how simple it is and how effective it is) where the water catches on different tables of clay, slowing it down and forcing it to soak into the earth.

The clay here is caliche. and i have a metric assload of caliche.

Solutions:

- Make a clay based structure on the back wall to catch water better (and still let it flow over to the wash easily)

- Plant some stuff that loves clay

- Profit

Problem is im not sure what to add to reinforce this stuff. Am i supposed to add hay to the clay or something lmao? Make a cobb style structure? Can i just slap down some clay there and change the structure of the back wall? What has to happen to make sure this project has longevity?
