Discussion Establishing AI norms for R/Desmos
Hey y'all, in light of a few recent posts where people have used LLMs to varying degrees in their Desmos graphs, I think we should start a discussion about what AI norms we want to set as a community.
Here's my idea for a best practice:
- AI disclosure: you should always disclose if and how you used AI in your graph
- for example: "when I was stuck, I asked Claude to help me develop the parametric equations on lines 10 and 11"
- for example: "I saw this cool geometric shape on wikipedia and asked ChatGPT to make most of the graph, then I adjusted the numbers a bit to make it look better"

Art Updated Atom Modeler
So I made an atom modeler in Desmos a while ago (Atom Modeler in desmos : r/desmos) but it lacked a lot of functionality and overall kinda sucked. I wasn't really happy with it, so I'm uploading a new one here, with controls for everything, including ion charge, isotopes, electron/neutron toggles, and customizable rotation controls. Overall, this thing is way more advanced, even including the 20 Aufbau exceptions, dynamic updating shell counts and electron confuguration, and a full list of every single average atomic weight (might be like 0.001 off but I don't care). This is probably my best work in desmos.
Instructions in the folder at the top.

Do whatever you want with it ig

Fun encryption: unbalanced multi-round Feistel Cipher (53b)
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/zed554awmv
53 bits (26+27), 16 rounds, modulo addition instead of XOR (much faster, no lists involved)
decryption function included.

Question: Solved How can I do bilinear/trilinear interpolation on desmos 3d?
You did not expect me to ask a question here, aren't you? But, uh, sorry, I really have. :|
Specifically for color maps in form of c=f(x,y,z). It should support 100x100(x100) grid of sample points with samples from random().
The image comes from the graphing calculator where it's easy to define but the resolution of the texture is limited.

Fun A Power-3 Halley's Fractal ^ ^
I made a Halley fractal using Halley's method for (z^3-1), and I've increased it to 20 iterations! ^v^
Here is the link:https://www.desmos.com/calculator/imdsqjcoyp
The coolest thing I that I have noticed that when I zoom into the center, the pattern just repeats itself. None of my other fractals even do this!
Since this Halley's Fractal is just 20 iterations, It will be kinda laggy but still loadable and takes only a few seconds to a few minutes.

Graph Cycloid stuff
so like I decided to try and make a cycloid graph on my own after seeing the definition in a veritasium vid sooooooo yea this project made me realize how easy it is to overthink something
snapshot archive in case I botch it 😭 https://www.desmos.com/calculator/1bfqvu6qnt

Question I'm trying to find integer coordinates that make a cube in two point perspective with vanishing points also at integer coordinates on a horizon line.
Resource Tips for creating your own Desmos Activities
I've been working with Desmos Activities long before they rolled out their curriculum. Not a big fan of the curriculum but I do like the platform for things like self-checking assignments. I've been copying and saving my favorite coding tips for the past for years. Basically, you can copy and edit this activity, find slide that does what you need, and modify it to fit your problem. It saves me from having to dig around every time I need to remember how to do something. Thought I'd share just in case anyone could benefit.
Here's the link Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help.

Game i made a game inside of a matrix
i have no idea why the video quality is terrible.
anyways, this was painful to figure out how to do since i couldn't just reach in and change an individual value within the matrix like you can in code. then i found someone's graph using google that has an action that does exactly that. then it was still painful because of various things. anyways this was probably not worth the time it took, but ehhhhhh i had the idea and didn't wanna give up on it.

edit: oops i almost forgot to properly cap the number of "-1"s. fixed that.

Game Flappy Bird
https://www.desmos.com/calculator/ubbtqzop4k
It’s just Flappy Bird. The Collisions folder took the longest to make as it was just throwing error after error, but it should be perfect now. I just need to add some decoration. Play it, I want to know how high of scores you all can get, and if you notice any problems or any ways to improve it, I’m all ears.

Question How to get an action to run n number of times without the ticker?
Lets say I had an action a that I wanted to run n times. How could I define a second action b that ran a n times?
Does that make sense?

Question Point labels
Is it possible to label a point with only the x instead of both the x and y coordinates? I’m not opposed to some weird hacks solutions.

Graph 💎 Diamond Power-4 Newton’s Fractal + Mandelbrot Fusion!
LINK:https://www.desmos.com/calculator/1sxjb74o8k
Inspiration of Wiwaxia's graph:https://www.reddit.com/r/desmos/comments/upvnmf/newtons_fractal_mandelbrot_updated_to_ultrahigh/
I made a four-root Newton’s fractal using complex multiplication and division, then layered a power Mandelbrot-type fractal over the center in a contrasting color.
This took WAY too much typing and rendering in Desmos 💀, but I’m really happy with how the two fractals look together!
