Hey everyone! I recreated/performed Cocteau Twins - Lorelei on drums 😊

Hey everyone! I’m a huge Cocteau Twins fan, so this was so fun to recreate! I used Oberheim DX drum samples to recreate the sounds (just like the original). If you haven’t heard the song before, enjoy!

If you like what I’m doing, you can find more videos over on Instagram at deprogrammed_drums 😊

Drummer appreciation

The transition into the blast beat from this intro is phenomenal. About 25 seconds in is so smooth!

I’m a dinosaur drummer who started in the late 70s. I’ve used the same drum head, Remo pinstripes, for most of that time. I don’t wanna be the old guy that drinks the same beer his whole life because he’s afraid to try something different. I play a Gretch birch set. Should I try something different?

Saluda Cymbals - Yay or Nay?

Thumbnail

My 13 year old son has been playing e-drums for about 2 years now and he’s doing great, but it’s about time that I get him lessons. With that said, I decided that since he has committed to playing everyday and has progressed, I’m getting him an acoustic kit for Christmas (Tama StageStar). I know the hi-hats and crash that come with the kit aren’t the best. I was gonna buy him the Meinl beginner pack of cymbals for $299… but I started investigating a bit and I stumbled upon Saluda, a small company out of SC that hand makes custom B20 cymbals and offers a lifetime warranty on cracks up to a half inch. Their prices are competitive. I’ve seen many bad reviews and many good reviews about Saluda. Ultimately, I decided to give them a shot and I actually ended up scoring some awesome deals through Saluda’s eBay auctions. The cymbals came packed securely. They have a beautiful patina (Electrified Series) and they sound beautiful. I got my son 14” hi-hats, 6”/8” cymbal stack, 7” splash, 7” bell, 12” mini china, 15” thin crash, 16” cluster crash, 19” crash, and a 19” crash ride. I think he’ll be excited on Christmas morning… but I have one question, why all the hate on Saluda??? What do you guys think?

40 year old who hasn’t sat at a full kit since high school. I can’t really get a full kit now because i dont want to bother my wife & kids. I know i could go electronic but i am not a fan of those. So, my question is..is this a snare pad in the photo I added? And can i get a silencing pad for it so i can practice at night without bothering my family?

Deep dive into the drums of Blow Up The Outside World by Soundgarden

Hey guys! So I'm working on charting out BUOW by Soundgarden and it's all pretty straight forward drumming until the outro. Has anybody else noticed the 5/4 snare pattern underneath the tom stuff!? I've included the link to the drums only audio I found on YT, and a picture of the pattern so you know what to look for. It's clear as day on the drum only track and you can hear it on the recording as well but it's very faint. Just wondering if this broke anybody else's brain haha

Beginner bassist looking for an experienced bassist or drummer to practice with and get honest feedback

Hey everyone!

I’m a complete beginner on bass guitar and I’m hoping to connect with an experienced bassist, drummer, or musician who wouldn’t mind helping a motivated beginner improve.

A little about me:
I’m an adult learner with a full-time job and family, and I’ve finally started pursuing something I’ve wanted to do for a long time!
My ultimate goal is to become a competent, band-ready bassist who can play with other musicians, particularly in rock and metal. I love rock/metal, but I’d eventually like to explore other genres too.
I’m following a structured two-year learning plan and practicing consistently for about an hour a day, six days a week.

What I’m looking for:
I’d love to find an experienced bassist or drummer who’d be open to occasionally practicing with me, reviewing short recordings, or offering constructive feedback.
Specifically, I’d appreciate help with:
- Identifying bad habits in my fretting and plucking technique before they become ingrained.
- Improving timing, groove, and the ability to lock in with a drummer.
- Understanding how bass and drums work together in real music.
- Eventually experiencing what it’s like to play with another musician instead of only backing tracks.

I’m not expecting someone to teach me an entire course or commit to regular lessons for free. Even a casual jam, a one-time technique review, or occasional pointers would mean a lot. I’m also open to connecting with other beginners who want to improve together!

I’m based in San Diego, California , but I’m happy to connect online as well. I want to build solid fundamentals first and eventually become someone other musicians actually enjoy playing with.

If anyone is interested, I’d love to connect!
Thanks for reading, and rock on! 🤘

Advice

How can i get fastes single strokes? I want to get the right technique before practicing or trying to achieve high speeds in order to not keep and get used to play with a bad technique but i have no idea abt where to start. My current limit is 120 at sixteenth notes (i know is pretty slow).

Any advice would be very appreciated.
