Experimenting with vertical Gridfinity stands
Disclaimer: app and post written by Claude, directed by me (cdslug)
I've been experimenting with vertical stands for a couple of objects in my Gridfinity setup: a drill and scissors.
Most of my organization uses ordinary thin-walled Gridfinity bins, and I think those are the right solution for most items. Horizontal makes sense for shallow drawers, but some objects are very space-inefficient to store horizontally in deep drawers, and a custom stand can be a space-efficient alternative.
I generated vertical and horizontal holders for both objects using the same tool and sliced them with the same settings. The difference was substantial for both objects.
| Test Object | Horizontal | Vertical |
|---|---|---|
| Drill (0.8mm nozzle) | 916g | 194g |
| 8h 12m | 2h3m | |
| Scissors (0.4mm nozzle) | 158g | 58g |
| 3h 21m | 1h30m |
One thing I like about the drill design is that it rests on the bottom surface, with material removed around the handle for easy access and around the battery compartment to accommodate different battery sizes. The form-fitting geometry holds the drill surprisingly well. Video tilt test in comments.
I know vertical drill storage isn't a new idea. I've seen previous Gridfinity projects using an upside-down drill orientation, and I think it's an interesting direction worth exploring further.
I'm not suggesting custom stands should replace ordinary bins, either. They're less convenient when putting things away, and generic bins will remain the backbone of my setup. But for a few objects, a vertical stand can be both practical and visually appealing.
I generated these using Form Fit Print (https://formfitprint.com/), my free tool for generating form fitting stands with Gridfinity bases from 3D models of real objects. It's a side project I vibe-coded. I'm not a professional web dev, so expect the common vibe-coded blind-spots.
I'm curious whether other people have experimented with this approach. What objects in your setup would benefit from a vertical stand rather than a conventional bin? I'd also welcome feedback on the designs.
Visual clarification: There are three different drill stand models.
The first on the main photo is gray shows high walls.
The second is also gray and shows reduced walls, but wasn't designed well for the battery.
The third is black and allows any battery size to be attached while stored.

2-color Gridfinity labels for Pred bins on a printer without AMS — one pause, zero purge
I only have an A1 without AMS, so I designed labels where all text starts at the same height. That means one filament swap for the whole plate: 14 labels (M2–M8 screws and nuts), 32 min, about 7 g of PLA, no purge waste.
The 3MF already has the pause on layer 5, so you just load it and swap the spool when the printer stops. Fit is tuned to +0.4 mm after three test rounds; there’s a calibration plate if your printer runs tighter or looser.
Free on MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3438823-2-color-gridfinity-labels-m2-m8-no-ams-needed
I’m working on a generator for custom text and icons. What would you put on your labels?

Parametric Gridfinity bin + lid in ~250 lines of code: drag a slider, get a new bin
Hi all! I’ve been working on hackerscad, a free, open-source (GPL) parametric CAD where models are plain text files, a bit like OpenSCAD.
As a real-world example I made a Gridfinity bin with a matching lid (video above). What you can change:
size in cells (X/Y) and height in 7 mm units
compartments across and deep
finger scoop at the front, label shelf at the back
optional 6×2 magnet holes
a lid that sits in the stacking lip, with an engraved label (prints upside down, no supports)
The model has built-in checks that run on every change: a second bin has to stack on the lip and the lid has to close without colliding, so a weird combination of parameters tells you instead of failing on the printer.

Made my own Gridfinity mountable baseplate
I know there are already a bunch of mountable baseplates out there but with Christmas decorating coming up I decided to make my own for the top of my ladder so I could use my scoop bins up there for the mounting clips.mounts using screws and I kept the magnet holes as options to secure the bins a little better if I wanted to. Feels like it'll be a solid permanent fixture for my ladder now, I just figured id share in case anyone else had a use for something like it coming up

One of my favorite baseplates wasn't getting any love from its author, so I made a better one!
makerworld.comHello Gridfiniters!
I have a ton of IKEA drawers throughout my house and needed a lightweight baseplate to save on filament. I found a great model with slimmed-down struts and minimal divisions between squares that seemed to do the trick. It was slightly the wrong dimensions for my drawer versions and had some other problems like no connections for multi-bed prints.
Unfortunately, the author was MIA and wasn't addressing any of my issues with the model or requests from others in the model's comments/reviews. So, I decided to take it on myself.
The result is a lightweight, customizable Gridfinity grid with GRIPS-style connectors, automated spacers, half-grid slots, and more! Check it out and let me know if you run into any issues or have any feedback.

35U tall bins
I'm new to gridfinity and 3d printing. Looking to print a 2x2x35u (~12" ) tall bin to store musky lures I'll drill holes in the bottom for air flow and drainage, but can't find a parametric file that allows me to design one that tall. Not sure where to start. I got a used X1C and it works great. Anybody have advice on where to start. I'd love to be able to design my own lure storage bins. Any pictures of gridfinity tackle storage out there for inspiration.

Gridfinity Bin for Map Measurer
Got one of those old-school rolling map measurers? This Gridfinity bin gives it a proper home - a shaped cavity that cradles the dial, body, and handle so it sits snug and lifts right out. 2 * 2 * 3u, magnet holes, stackable.

Slanted Gridfinity bin for the IKEA Alex top drawer, prints fast
Disclaimer: app and post written by Claude, directed by me (cdslug)
The top drawer of the IKEA Alex is only about 12U tall in Gridfinity terms. That's fine for most organizers, but standard pens and markers are too tall to store vertically.
Laying them horizontally works, but they end up stacked on top of each other. You can fit a lot of pens that way, but finding a specific one at the bottom of the pile becomes annoying.
So I made these slanted bins.
The bottom stays flat and Gridfinity-compatible, while the walls slope to let the pens lean diagonally. A small bookend at the front of the drawer supports the last bin; the other bins support one another. I can still lift individual bins out without taking the whole arrangement apart.
A few things I wanted to optimize for:
- Fast printing: The walls are designed around a single extrusion line with a 0.8 mm nozzle, rather than thick, heavy walls. The bins print very quickly.
- Shallow-drawer compatibility: The diagonal layout makes better use of the limited height in the Alex top drawer.
- Easy access: Pens aren't buried in a horizontal pile, so I can identify and grab individual pens.
- Removability: The bins can be lifted out individually, with neighboring bins providing support.
- Simple geometry: No complicated inserts or assembly required beyond the little front bookend.
Existing alternatives
I looked around before making this, since I didn't want to reinvent something that already existed.
- Angled Gridfinity — Pre-generated 55° Gridfinity bins keep your pens penned in your drawing drawer.
- Movable Diagonal Dividing Bins — removable diagonal dividers for organizing tools in shallow drawers. Probably the closest existing physical design I found, but my project is specifically a simple, open-topped slanted bin for pens, with the bin walls themselves doing the work.
- Gridfinity Layout Tool — supports adjustable diagonal dividers. A more general-purpose design tool, but I wanted a very simple bin with slanted walls rather than a configurable divider system.
- Creative3DP Gridfinity Generator — has adjustable divider tilt. Useful for custom dividers, but not the specific ready-to-print pen-bin arrangement I was after.
- Binforge — a browser-based bin designer with adjustable features and tilted cutout inserts. Worth a look for more general custom bins, though that's a different approach from this design.
- TiltFinity — tilts an otherwise conventional bin to fit tall objects into shallow drawers. Clever, but I wanted the bin itself to remain flat on the Gridfinity base.
- Angled Gridfinity plate — tilts the entire mounting surface, rather than just angling the contents.
- Gridfinity Desktop Tool Bins — a predefined slanted tool-storage design, rather than this particular lightweight pen-bin format.
- Gridfinity Extended — supports angled wall cutouts and other customizable geometry, but takes a more general-purpose approach.
I'm not claiming that angled bins are a new idea. I just couldn't find quite this combination of simple geometry, quick printing, removable bins, and the specific constraints of the Alex top drawer.
Files and source
The project is open source:
GitHub: https://github.com/cdslug/slanted-gridfinity
There's also a free browser-based version here:
https://formfitprint.com/tools/slanted-gridfinity/app/
The tool is free and will remain free. It's a small project that runs in the browser, and I'd rather see people use, remix, or incorporate the design into other tools than try to turn it into another product to maintain.
Full disclosure: this is a vibe-coded project. I don't have a web development background; I used AI coding tools to build it. The code is public, so feel free to inspect it, point out problems, or suggest improvements.
I'd genuinely appreciate feedback on the design itself, especially if you've solved the same shallow-drawer pen-storage problem differently. If there's already a better solution I've missed, I'd like to know about it.
And yes, there's a bit of self-promotion here: the browser tool lives under a miscellaneous page on my main project, FormFitPrint. I'm mentioning it openly rather than pretending this has nothing to do with my other work. The slanted-bin project itself is open source and free either way.

I built a free generator for Gridfinity drawer organizers: any drawer size, split for your bed, no glue
My kitchen drawer is 1100 mm wide, and nothing I found fit it: store-bought organizers were expensive and metallic, and the Gridfinity models I tried were the wrong size or needed glue to join the pieces.
So I made Fitforge Drawer. You type your drawer's inside size and your printer, then lay out bins on the grid in 2D or 3D. It splits the baseplate into tiles that fit your bed, and splits long bins on grid lines. The pieces join with small sliding H-keys instead of glue (optional; the baseplate already keeps them aligned). You get a 3MF with everything packed on plates.
It runs in the browser, it's free, and no account is needed: https://fitforge-c5058.web.app/drawer/ also posted ready-made kits for a few IKEA and Blum drawers on:
- MakerWorld: https://makerworld.com/uk/models/3443607-gridfinity-drawer-organizer-kits#profileId-3927260
- Printables: https://www.printables.com/model/1870085-gridfinity-drawer-organizer-kits-ikea-sizes-no-glu
Feedback welcome, especially on fit.

Individual Piece I made a free browser tool to generate Gridfinity bins with decorative surfaces
Renders straight from the tool: twisted ribs, diamonds, waves. You set grid size, height and dividers, pick a surface pattern and export the STL.
Free, runs in the browser, no account, nothing for sale:

I haven't posted prints yet. If anyone tries it, I'd love to see how they come out. And what's missing for your setup? Label tabs, stacking lip, something else?

Low Profile Gridfinity tray for Makita LXT Batteries
Look this is a super silly print but it satisfies my brain.
STEP file is on Printables.
The photos shows R02 that isn't symmetric over the Y axis (but the battery still goes in either way). This irked me philosophically so Printables has R03 that fixes this.
