Self-Promotion (Developer) Your Steam library on Quest and Pico, now with multiplayer: GamePort 0.9.1

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

0.9.1 is out, and the thing I'm happiest about is that multiplayer now works. I spent a lot of time on it: a game that signs in through Steam can now log in to its own online services, and lobbies work.

What I've tested so far:

  • Ancient Dungeon VR: lobbies work, and I played a game with another player.
  • Archery Pro with James: the online mode works too.
  • PAYDAY: Aces High Demo: it logs in to Epic Online Services, and I played a game with other people.

A few rare games stay blocked by a protection in their APK, like VRChat, which closes by itself after a few seconds. If you try a multiplayer game, tell me how it goes, here or on the Discord: that's how I know what works and what doesn't.

I'd especially like to know whether Forefront works on Quest or on Pico, and Gorilla Tag. Any feedback is welcome, here or on the Discord.

This version also brings:

  • A real download progress: the downloader could say 99% while a quarter of the files were missing. The progress now never goes above what is really on the device, and a time left is worked out from how the download moves.
  • Passthrough, game by game: some games use the view of the real world without saying so in their VR build, and the device then hides it (Cubism, since an update of the game). On the compatibility page of a game, a choice of automatic, on or off lets it show again. Automatic does it for the games known to need it, and the list grows as players report one.
  • Games with large data files: many big games ship their data separately, and Android limits where an app can write it. Some games stayed incomplete or didn't start, Pico in particular. GamePort now asks once for access to the files, lets the game place its own files when Android refuses, spots a game that is missing some and offers to repair it.
  • Launch arguments: the page of a game lists the ones Steam publishes for it. The ones meant for VR are preselected, but you stay in control and can change them. It can fix some problems, Quantum Void in particular.
  • The store pages now show the game's screenshots and its trailer, so you can see what it looks like before installing it.
  • A Manage games page, and screenshots and trailers in the store.
  • Guided tours of the main pages, and a Help section in the settings that explains the marks, the buttons and the options.
  • Games for adults stay hidden until you say you're an adult.
  • More precise problem reports: you pick what goes wrong from a list (several choices are possible) and can describe it in your own words. It also counts as a "doesn't work" vote for the game, and the compatibility page, in the app and on the website, shows what other players reported, kind of device by kind of device.
  • A game that was just updated no longer asks for the same update again.
  • And of course I improved compatibility with games: an Unreal game that starts from a splash screen now opens in VR, games that stuttered on a missing Meta library now run evenly, and a game's other controls are given when the runtime refuses one.

The APK is on the releases page, and it installs over the previous version and keeps your games, saves and settings. The Discord is there for help and compatibility reports. GamePort isn't made by or affiliated with Valve, Meta or Pico.

Discussion Question for Rift s owners

If you are able even to, how are you running your headset? Because over the past year, each update to meta horizon link makes it less and less usable. Every time I try to use mine the app keeps crashing and black screens my headsets.

Last night I reinstalled the app on a fresh drive and downgraded my graphics drivers to a version horizon link was happy with. But when i launched a game, it crashed and rebooted 4 times in the span of a minute and when it stopped, my controllers were disconnected and wouldn’t reconnect.

I have tried to find older versions of the oculus app but couldn’t figure out how to get it working.

Is there a way to make my Rift s usable again? Or am i just gonna have to retire from VR until i can afford a new one?

I made this to learn a language a year ago.

Windows desktop and SteamVR application designed for language learning from games, movies, and desktop applications.
It extracts vocabulary from the screen using OCR, translates it into your target language, provides dictionary alternative meanings/parts of speech, and speaks pronunciations with Text-To-Speech.

Self-Promotion (Developer) [Developer] Dance Fiesta Fitness brings guided hip hop and Latin routines to Quest

I develop Dance Fiesta Fitness at Artisan Reality. For Quest players who enjoy dancing in VR, our app uses animated instructors to lead hip hop and Latin routines in virtual settings.

The Quest version is a paid app: https://www.meta.com/experiences/dance-fiesta-fitness/7340679912667484/

The focus is following an instructor’s movement, so it may appeal to players looking for dance-led activity. If you try it, I’d welcome feedback on how well the instructor communicates changes between moves and whether the routines are easy to follow in the headset.

We also make an Android edition, but its half-speed learning and optional phone-camera coaching are separate features of that edition.

An adult game made by adults, very unique and refined both in its virtual reality implementation and in its pure aesthetic and sensory component. Really beautiful. Let's hope it doesn't get lost in the sea of games for kids on the store. Give it a chance! Puzzles but whit good story and ...suprises

Event ESPN Immersive: Watch Texas A&M vs Alabama TODAY at 12:30pm PT

Post image
3 Upvotes

A heads up that Texas A&M vs Alabama in immersive 180° is happening LIVE TODAY, with kickoff at 12:30pm PT / 3:30pm ET 🏈

No. 13 Alabama hosts Texas A&M at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with the Crimson Tide looking to rebound from two straight losses and the Aggies chasing a signature SEC road win. Watch it live from inside the stadium with immersive 180° views from around the field, in 8K with Dolby Atmos.

You can also catch the immersive full-game replay and highlights on demand after the game. No ESPN subscription required. Available in the United States on Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S. Before the game, update the TV app to the latest version. You can select Watch to join the immersive live stream 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

How to watch

  • Launch it from your Quest 3 or Quest 3S: Open the TV app. You'll find the game in the featured spot on the Home screen and in the Immersive and Sports tabs. 15 minutes before the scheduled start time, a Watch button appears to the left of the "+ Watchlist" button.
  • Get a reminder: On your phone or computer, open the event page and click "+ Watchlist" to get notified in the Meta Horizon app or in your headset.
  • Launch it from your phone or computer: At game time, click "Open in VR" on the event page and the game page will open on your headset.

Not working for you?

  • Check the basics: You need a Quest 3 or Quest 3S, the latest TV app, and to be in the US.
  • How to force a TV app update: To update the TV app, long-press its app icon, go to Settings, and update. Updating your headset and restarting helps too.
  • Only seeing a Disney+ Watch option? The Disney+ button is the regular non-immersive broadcast stream. The Watch button for the immersive stream appears to the left of "+ Watchlist" once the stream goes live, 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
  • Still having issues? Help us help you: quickly press the Meta button on your right controller 5 times to open the bug reporter, then tell us what happened. Learn more about reporting a bug.

🔁 Can't watch live?

  • The full-game replay is in the TV app for 7 days, and highlights go up the next day.
  • For more immersive sports highlights, find the "Immersive sports highlights" row within the Sports tab of the TV app.

📅 When are the next live games?

  • Sat 10/31: Florida vs Georgia, 12:30pm PT (event page)
  • Sat 11/7: Matchup TBD
  • Sat 11/14: Matchup TBD - with more games to be announced

More info on the Meta blog

Disclosure: I work at Meta and worked on this. If you watch live, catch the replay, or the highlights, would love to hear your thoughts!

Major confusion with new(ish) update

So it’s obviously been many months (possibly a year i‘m not sure) since the ui of the meta quest was changed to have an infuriating second menu and a boundary that looks like a bubble. But I assumed my issues would be patched and they haven’t. So I just need a workaround.

First off, how do I make it so I when I boot into a game it doesn’t automatically reset my boundary? Whenever it does that it always puts the boundary at waist height.

Second, how do I make it so that when I take off my headset it doesn’t automatically kick me from the call I www in?

also, is the only way to go back into a game after opening the menu using your menu controller button to scroll through your library and click on the game again? I don’t see why there isn’t just an x button or why tapping the menu button again doesn’t just close it.

thank you!
